“Breathtaking!!!”

We crossed the USA in summer. We stayed in Flagstaff and went to the South Rim.

From Flagstaff it takes about 90 min only. Then you pay the entrance (25$ for a car...good for a whole week!) and we thought: Where is the Canyon? So we drove a little further and parked the car at a View Point.

And then suddenly...only a few steps away....the Grand Canyon! Overwhelming, breathtaking....God's Hand. It's incredible! And Huge!

Words just can't describe what you will see! Of course, you can see pics and movies...but the real thing is even bigger!

You have loads of View points on the road at the South Rim....you can really drive for a bunch of hours and always see new and different views.
Pls. respect this place....I really got quite annoyed by people screaming around....it's kind of a almost spiritual place....just enjoy the view, take a breath....it bigger than anything!

What really made me mad was the fact, that there was a lot of garbage (tissues, bottles and other things) between the trees, on the rocks...everywhere. I wished people would take care better!

If you have the chance: Come early! Firstly because there is less people (if you get there around 7 or 8). And secondly: In summer, the weather is quite changing. It often rains in the afternoons. And for sure you wanna get at least some sun!

It's something you should see...something everybody should see at least once in their life!

Wanna know more about my trip?

“You Need More Than One Day Here!!”

We just returned from visiting the Grand Canyon South Rim. We had only budgeted a day in our vacation, and I am sorry we did not have more time, because a day is just not enough to see everything there is to see.

The Grand Canyon is something that everyone should see at least once in their life. It is awe inspiring, and nothing you can see in a picture will ever prepare you for the grandeur of the canyon. It's just magnificant, gorgeous, breathtaking, all those words and they just don't even begin to describe what you are seeing.

If you can, join one of the informative talks given by the park rangers, they are extremely knowledgeable and you will come away learning so much more about the Grand Canyon.

We walked for hours, and still got to see only a fraction of the canyon. There are cool nature trails surrounded by huge trees, where you can glimpse the canyon from afar. Closer up, you can walk right to the edge and glimpse down, if you dare!!

We watched the colors change as a rainstorm began forming over parts of the canyon, actually watched the grey and white clouds of rain settle onto the rocks, just amazing to see.

Last year I was lucky enough to visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and this was quite different, in its own way - try to see both if you can. It is difficult to put into words, but we all get so caught up in our day to day lives, and when you see something like the Grand Canyon, it just takes you to another place . . . . it really is one of our national treasures and a wonderful place for everyone to visit.

I am only sorry that we did not make plans to stay overnight. There are night programs offered that looked very interesting, and its just such a wonderful place one day is simply not enough.

“Better than expected - photos do not do it justice”

In addition to the usual stuff about it being a fantastic sight, we just wanted to add a few comments about practicalities. We went in August 2006. It was not as busy as expected, yes there were people around but there was not lots of queueing either on foot or when driving. We purchased the $50 annual pass as we were visiting more than one park - this was good value. It was not as hot as expected, temps were around 70F. Walking into the Canyon was easier than expected, there are some scary comments about, but we found it ok (ranged in age from 9 to 66!) We didn't go very far, just a taster. You can't walk down and back up again in the same day. We'll save that for another time! Highlight is the Yavapi Point. Disappointed with sun rise and sun set - the best views are about an hour and half before and after.

“A Magnificent Place”

Went Labor Day weekend. It is awesome to see. The Canyon is Beautiful and though crowded the park is so big that you walk down a trial and be alone with its magnificence. Use the buses (especially the Hermit's Rest bus) and walk. Don't miss the main areas. Also go out Desert View Trial. It provides great views and is less crowded.

We also took an afternoon and walked a mile and a half down Bright Angel Trail. It is really tough coming up. Those people weezing coming up will be you if you get to be deep. The views from Bright Angel were incredible.

If areas are crowded and its seems to spoil the magnitude of the canyon walk away from the crowds. It is a place that defies words and must be experienced. While there we saw so many great things elk near our hotel, big horn sheep, goats, condors and deer.

It is a once in lifetime place that compels reverence for its beauty and vastness.
