Very pleased. We stayed there for four days and loved the chilled-out atmosphere. Guests were mainly middle-aged English couples (who seemed particularly attracted to the nude beach), but that meant we had better access to the the non-nude beaches and beach equipment!

In terms of beach quality, we drove around the island, visiting many of the island's beaches and the beaches at the resort are definitely top 5%. Good range of beach equipment and two of the beaches have easily accessible snorkelling sites just off the beach (we were surprised not more guests were snorkelling). It's great that there are 4 beaches, so you can pick the one you like and it's never crowded.

Food and service was fine - don't think it's that great on the island generally... we stayed in the top-range bungalow (got upgraded) and the room was top-class.

“Very Relaxing with Beautiful Beaches”

My husband and I decided on the Hawksbill after reading many reviews on this site and we were very happy with our choice.

Upon arrival we were greeted with mimosas and cold towels, which was a pleasant surprise. We were then taken to our beach bungalow, which I was a little disappointed in at first. It was a row back from the beach and I was worried we would not being able to get the breeze at night, but it turned out to be fine since we were facing the beach. If we were assigned to a room that was not facing the beach we would have had to move . I don't see how they get any air.

The beaches were all very beautiful and the water was the perfect tempature. There were enough sun beds and room on the main beach to never feel crowded . The nude beach was mostly empty and there you have a nice view of the hawksbill rock, but it was a long hot walk from our room, so we only visited twice.

The reception area where there is a bar and the main dining room that served breakfast and dinner was located up many steps , so I don't recommend this hotel for anyone that has difficulty climbing steps. The food and service however made the climb worth it ! The breakfast was wonderful, with a pancake and egg station and lots of fresh fruit and muffin choices. Dinner was very good as well. They had a good variety and eveything we tried was good. This is a big difference from most other Carribean trips we have been on. The steel drum band that played on Wed was great and friendly - they even played Happy Bithday for my husband.

There were only a few drawbacks :

The water pressure in our shower was usually terrible unless we showered at odd hours.

The drinks at the bar were hit or miss, but the banana daiquiris were delicious and my husband loved the Wadadlis.

They could use some more things to do at night , like a pool table or a game night .

Outside the resort we rented a jeep one day from Tropical Rentals , they were a great company to work with - very friendly . We drove around the whole island and enjoyed a few beaches off the beaten path. Our favoriate was Darkwood Beach. We also had dinner at The Cove. It was very elegant and the food was fantastic. Our last day we took a boat tour around the island with Excellence tours. At first I was disappointed because they took a long time to get going and then the snorkeling at Green Island was just OK, but the rest of the ride around ths island was great. We enjoyed seeing the dramatic coast line and we stopped at Fryes Beach which was next to Darkwood and just as beautiful.

Overall , we really enjoyed the Hawksbill and found Antigua to be a very beautiful island.

“The Ultimate Chill”

Just come back from this resort. My wife and I had a great time and the most chilled holiday experience in many years. The staff were almost all delightful and some exceptional.

This resort is set in 38 acres of wonderfully kept gardens and Sylvia Henry's tour will tell you all you would want to know. There are many small birds and other wildlife which was a surprisingly great part of the holiday.

The four beaches are all excellent and for those inclined there is a wonderfully unspoilt clothing optional beach. The pool is tiny and I only saw children using it.

Hawksbill has a lot of history having been a plantation and there is a mill turned shop on the site. A local historian gives a talk each Friday.

The food is very good generally, as is the service. The staff really want you to have a good time. The quality of the afternoon teas was the one disappointing exception but most people were never really hungry enough to have this anyway.

We had a beach front bungalow no.111and was very satisfied with this. Shower was always hot and fast and room cleaned daily.

We were amazed at how many people return to the resort. In the 2 weeks we were there there were many that were retuning for the 18th 22nd and in one case 38th time. In fact each week there is a 'returners' coctail party. I think that this the greatest indication of a resorts virtues.

There is no television or radio in the room. There is limited internet access and this only helps the visitors actually talk to each other and that for us was a real bonus because we made friends with many people as did almost everyone.

my sister and i stayed at hawksbill in a garden view room.this being our first trip to the caribbean we didnt know what to expect.we were pleasantly surprised.the room may have been dated in others view but it was spacious clean and the bed the most comfortable ive ever slept in.the beaches were clean and uncrowded.the gardens were a riot of colour and of a night everywhere was well lit.as i am a fussy eater i was apprehensive about meals but i have to say the food was excellent and i certainly did not go hungry!there was so much choice from breakfast through to evening meal.the staff were absolutely wonderful.friendly, efficient, and gave the impression they enjoyed their work, from management down to cleaners.special mention has to go to david the wine waiter who was very attentive as were all the other staff in the restaurants and bars.my favourite memory is of having finished our evening meal and sitting listening to a local band and watching the staff dance as they worked.it was infectious!truly a wonderful experience and one i will definately repeat.

“Fantastic place - don't be put off by other reviews!”

We stayed at this resort for 2 weeks in April and had a brilliant time. We travelled with our 4 year old daughter and she saw so much wildlife it was an amazing experience for her. There was a pelican who came every day twice a day to fish, humming birds, octopus, pigs, goats, mongoose, it was like having your own zoo nearby. I've read some of the bad reports and wondered if we went to the same hotel as we couldn't have had a better time. Some of the staff were a bit miserable but generally you couldn't meet a better bunch of people. I think they love children so we may have been treated better because of our cute daughter! David, Millie & Alex behind the bar were exceptional and couldn't do enough for you and most of the waitress's were lovely. Sometimes you had to wait a while for an ordered lunch but this was the exception rather than the norm. The restaurant manager(Geraldine) was a bit curt with you especially if you didn't do waiting in line to enter the restaurant! This was a bit impractical with a young child who would be asleep by 7:30pm and the restaurant opened at 7pm. She saw the funny side eventually and just let us get on with picking our own table. You just had to be firm with them. The dress code rules were debateable as we saw people wearing things that were supposedly not allowed on more than one night but they seemed to get away with it and we wondered why they bothered having the rules in the first place.

We stayed in a Superior Beachfront room and this was more than adequate for our needs. There were 2 double beds in the room with comfy mattresses(very important to me as I have a bad back) and I never had a back twinge at all which I normally do if i'm not in my own bed. There were a lot of ants in the bathroom but we just got a can of spray and they certainly didn't like this and within minutes they had died or gone away. Houskeeping did a basic clean every day and could have changed the bed linen more often but it wasn't a problem. Beware of having clothes cleaned as it took 2 days to have this done on the 'Express same day' service!! They also altered the order sheet to put ironing on it when we didn't ask for this. We disputed this on our final bill and eventually the miserable receptionist got it deducted from the bill after slamming her hands down on the counter and saying that the bill was right! The Garden rooms did look a bit basic so it is woth going for the next room up.

The food was excellent, piping hot and enough choice. It was nice that there was a buffet on some nights and waitress service on other nights. The restaurant by the beach lacked atmosphere and we couldn't get our choice of champagne (Moet) as they had run out(even though they had it in the display!). It took them 2 hours to find out the price of the alternatives by which time we were on our coffees! The food there was ok but the normal restaurant was much better.

The pool had a bit too much chlorine in it which bleached beige shorts yellow and some days you could see it crystalised on the surface. My partner's hands peeled completely and we stopped our daughter going in it. We did mention this to the Assistant Mgr.

Beware of very large spiders by the Beach Club Rooms as we saw a photo of one that a couple nearly stood on and it was enormous! Also watch out for ants on the beach as they bite. There were lots of mosi's around and as i'm prone to being bitten by them I expected to be bitten here. I certainly didn't go down with malaria as some reviews would lead you to believe and we stayed there at the same time as the couple who wrote that. I had 13 bites on the 1st night but it didn't spoil my holiday as i'm used to this and as it's a tropical place you would sort of expect to had these little critters around wouldn't you? Just take the most effective mosi spray you can and cover yourself with it!

Don't expect the place to be a lively resort as there was usually noone in the bar by 10pm as everyone was so tired that they didn't make it that far! We just crashed out come 9:30pm as doing nothing is very exhausting!! Be aware that some of the activities advertised didn't happen as we missed the crab racing which was scheduled for 10pm and deliberately stayed up in anticipation of this event only to go to bed at 10:30pm when there was no sign of this happening. It's just the way the Caribbean is i'm afraid 'don't worry be happy' etc.

Overall we had a fantastic time and thought it was a great place to come. It was my 2nd visit as i'd been 15 years ago and it hadn't changed that much. Some people have been coming for 25 years so yes they did get a bit better service but it didn't reflect in how we felt about the place. Definately not a place for lively people with teenagers but a great beach for kids and a safe sea. The beaches were all stunning and the sea was the most amazing blue and it was a great place to relax and chill out.
