My husband and I decided on the Hawksbill after reading many reviews on this site and we were very happy with our choice.
Upon arrival we were greeted with mimosas and cold towels, which was a pleasant surprise. We were then taken to our beach bungalow, which I was a little disappointed in at first. It was a row back from the beach and I was worried we would not being able to get the breeze at night, but it turned out to be fine since we were facing the beach. If we were assigned to a room that was not facing the beach we would have had to move . I don't see how they get any air.
The beaches were all very beautiful and the water was the perfect tempature. There were enough sun beds and room on the main beach to never feel crowded . The nude beach was mostly empty and there you have a nice view of the hawksbill rock, but it was a long hot walk from our room, so we only visited twice.
The reception area where there is a bar and the main dining room that served breakfast and dinner was located up many steps , so I don't recommend this hotel for anyone that has difficulty climbing steps. The food and service however made the climb worth it ! The breakfast was wonderful, with a pancake and egg station and lots of fresh fruit and muffin choices. Dinner was very good as well. They had a good variety and eveything we tried was good. This is a big difference from most other Carribean trips we have been on. The steel drum band that played on Wed was great and friendly - they even played Happy Bithday for my husband.
There were only a few drawbacks :
The water pressure in our shower was usually terrible unless we showered at odd hours.
The drinks at the bar were hit or miss, but the banana daiquiris were delicious and my husband loved the Wadadlis.
They could use some more things to do at night , like a pool table or a game night .
Outside the resort we rented a jeep one day from Tropical Rentals , they were a great company to work with - very friendly . We drove around the whole island and enjoyed a few beaches off the beaten path. Our favoriate was Darkwood Beach. We also had dinner at The Cove. It was very elegant and the food was fantastic. Our last day we took a boat tour around the island with Excellence tours. At first I was disappointed because they took a long time to get going and then the snorkeling at Green Island was just OK, but the rest of the ride around ths island was great. We enjoyed seeing the dramatic coast line and we stopped at Fryes Beach which was next to Darkwood and just as beautiful.
Overall , we really enjoyed the Hawksbill and found Antigua to be a very beautiful island.
