The Bucuti Beach and Tara Suites is a great, smaller style hotel located right on Eagle Beach. A recent renovation to the Bucuti rooms and the addition of the new Tara Suites Tower makes this a good location for honeymooners, anniversaries and couples. The pool was recently upgraded and has great lounge style seating as well as (occasional) server service. You can walk directly from the hotel to the almost private beach that includes lounge furniture and shading umbrellas.
My wife and I just returned and we can say that overall we had a great time. The staff is friendly and accommodating to our needs. When we checked in (we were in the Bucuti rooms) we found ourselves in a double garden view room. We were not excited about the lower floor view and the double beds, so we asked to change and they were easily able to help us to a third level room overlooking the same view from higher up.....much better and a single bed. The rooms are simple, but offer a small mini-bar and refrigerator that can allow you to put some of your own eats and drinks inside. There is a desk, lounge sofa chair and all the basics. High speed internet, if you need it is about $11 per day or you can buy a 7 day pass for $36.
My only real complaint about the Bucuti room was the maid service......the only day that they showed up to clean our room on time was the day we were leaving. We had to ask daily to have our room made up, although the rooms around us seemed to be cleaned on a regular basis. After a day at the pool, and returning to the room between 3pm and 5pm we would have expected it to already be cleaned.
There is continental breakfast included with many of the room packages.....the continental is pretty good and runs until 10am in the Tara Tower or until 11 am at the Pirate's Nest restaurant. The breakfast staff in the Tara Tower is great, friendly and willing to help with anything you need. The breakfast includes various meats, cheeses, bagels, breads, yogurts, fruits, cold cereals, juices and even some vegetables. There are juices, coffees, tea and mocha's. They ask that you do not remove any food from the premises, so show up hungry. We heard that there was a hot food menu at the Pirate's Nest, but we never indulged in that because the continental was plenty.
The Pirate's Nest is the only restaurant on premises....food is good but not spectacular. The happy hour ran from 3pm to 6pm and 9pm to 10pm daily. All drinks were half off and tapas menu was good.
We walked to a few of the other resorts near by, and ours seemed to be the best in the low-rise area. I only saw one or two kids, so this place seems to be for a more quiet crowd.
For the gamblers there is a casino across the parking lot - Alhambra.....all the casino's in Aruba are pretty simple and Alhambra is very simple and smokey.
A few points: Pizza Bob's across the parking lot is a MUST! Try the famous Mexican Pizza. People who eat there will tell you that you must go there at least once and they are right. Huge mugs of Bilashi Beer (local brew) are only $6 each and this is a good deal considering most 8 oz. bottles run about $5 elsewhere.
There is a concierge desk on the property and they can help you with everything from renting a car to all the island excursions. The BEST excursion by far is the ABC Jeep tour. The all day tour will wipe you out and get you dirty, but in one day, you can see all the sites that the local brochures tell you to hit....this leaves a lot more time to shop, eat, gamble and of course lay by the beach and pool.
Overall, I rate this location above average for beach, amenities, staff, location and romance.
