“Will be back !!!”

Yellow Bird Hotel

Jul 10, 2008

After not having been to Barbados in 14 years, I had to do online research to determine where I should stay. All I knew was that I wanted to be close to the St Lawrence Gap and had to find decent accomodation for my friend and I. The reviews on Trip Advisor were more than useful and in turn I contacted the Hotel Manager via e-mail explaining exactly what I wanted and the associated costs involved.
The prompt and polite response was all I needed to confirm our fate.
Upon arrival and a quick check in from a very helpful staff member, we encountered rooms that had a perfect view of the ocean. The rooms were clean, air conditioned and even allowed for the preparation of your own meals. This was not our option and a visit to the Flying Fish Restaurant & Bar located on the ground floor consolidated our position. Over the five days we drank and ate to our leisure and we must commend Rose and Roderick for the exceptional service.
The discovery that the Hot Spots where the discos and the popular bars were situated right next to us was a great pleasure. We did not come to sleep. We came to have a good time and Yellow Bird is the ideal spot. You just have to cross the road to get to the beach and the pool is ideal for soaking.
The close proximity to the capital city, Bridgetown and to the airport is also worth mention
The staff were helpful in arranging a rental vehicle, calling taxis, wake up calls, whatever you needed...they were there.
No room service though...and average amenities.
Notwithstanding, this is an affordable, convenient, safe and comfortable location.
Recommended strongly for travellers who want to have fun.
Need I say it...Will be back!!!

“Excellent value in a good location”

Yellow Bird Hotel

Situated right where all the action is, at the west end of St Lawrence Gap, Yellow Bird is a great place to stay if you are looking for spacious accommodation of a good standard, with self catering as well as a restaurant conveniently located in the building.

I was impressed with the size of the room, and the great views of the sea. The kitchen was all you need for a holiday, plus the food in the Flying Fish restaurant downstairs was a great option too.

Yellow Bird is within walking distance of all that's going on in St Lawrence Gap. I also walked the other way (towards the west cost) and found plenty of other shops and other amenities. Although I didn't catch the bus, it would have been really easy to do so. I did go to Oistins fish fry, which was only about 10 minutes away by taxi.

The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. They made my stay really enjoyable.

The only down-side is that it is really noisy at night. However I recommend that you just go out and join in the party! Then use ear plugs when you get back!!!!!!!

“Ideal Spot”

Yellow Bird Hotel

Jun 24, 2008

Spent 3 nights at the Yellow Bird Hotel while on a diving holiday in May. Conveniently situated within walking distance of most attractions at The Gap and a perfect base for exploring the island from. Large airy room with balcony overlooking a small bay (ideal for watching sunsets). Catering facilities available in the room . Although overlooking a bay it was not ideal for swimming but the hotel has a small pool in the grounds. Nearest beach was walkable we were told but didn't investigate. Highly recommend the hotel so long as you are not expecting a beach-resort style holiday. Staff extremely helpful with car hire, taxis, bus routes etc and nice bar/restaurant on site.

“Dream Holiday!”

Yellow Bird Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Cambs,
Jun 11, 2008

We arrived by taxi and knew immediately that we'd made a great choice in hotel, the view was amazing! We were greated warmly and show to the room by a friendly member of staff.
The room was decorated simply and had the best self catering facilities we'd ever had, a bit dated maybe but all functional and everything you could need! We had a large balcony and every room has THE most stunning view of Little Bay. It was cleaned daily with new towels which was very much appreciated.
The Yellow Bird is in a fantastic location for a self catering holiday with a great choice of bars and restaurants close by.
The pool was small but we had it to ourselves most of the time and the area was always clean.
We didn't dine in the restaurant as we like to explore but it seemed quite popular and there was plenty of choice on the menu.
We were treated to a Rum Punch Party thrown by the management for the guests of the hotel and it's sister hotel the South Gap. Free Rum and nibbles for all and a chance to mingle!
Ok so now the "noise" issue. Well we took ear plugs as we had a noisey hotel last year but any hotel can be noisey if the guests are rowdy! Here it was the music from the nearby clubs. It was only a problem at the weekends when it went on till 3 or 4am. Week days we didn't notice and to be honest it's not like you've got to be up for work in the morning!
The day we left there was an article in the local paper stating that the police had issued a ban on music after 2am, so hopefully, for the residents it will get better.
Finally a very kind word about the staff...i left a sweater that i planned to wear on the plane behind in the wardrobe, Doh! Anyway, less than 2 weeks later it shows up at my door back home, bless they sent it back!!
All in all Yellow Bird was perfect for us and we'd definately go back.

“Yellow Bird is briliant”

Yellow Bird Hotel

Jun 10, 2008

I stayed at the Yellow Bird for the 1st time this year & thought it was an excellant hotel, it is reasonably priced & so you get what you pay for - no frills!! If you want luxury then you need to book one of the bigger hotels. It may not have any frills but it is clean & the rooms are cleaned everyday with fresh towels & clean bed sheets provided daily, the kitchenette is well furnished & everything in good working order. The staff are second to none & are some of the most friendliest people I have met on the island.

Now lets talk about the noise, people who complain about the level of noise from Jumbies need to get out there & get a life but most importantly to the ones complaining who have actually read about the noise on websites & in brochures why book in the 1st place? Yes there is an element of noise but not as bad as what people make out & it usually finishes before 2 a.m., occasionally it went on longer but that was on the Bank Holidays & after all Bajans need to let their hair down & party too!! These clubs aren't just for the tourists!!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The location - right at the start of the Gap & The Flying fish restaurant
    • Disliked — Ground floor room too near greenery & so alot of mosquitos - bitten badly.
