“Relaxation at it's finest”

Limestone Holiday Resort

This was a return trip to the island for my girlfriend, who lived and taught on the island. Having a knowledge of the island and how to get around and where to eat, shop, snorkel, etc., made it easy for us. The Limestone is the perfect retreat; but not for the sort of vacationer who wants everything at their fingertips, but more for the adventurous spirit who wants to explore and relax. Curacao is an amazing island with great night life for those looking, but more importantly for those who love the outdoors. Whether hiking up Mount Cristoffel, snorkeling, diving, or doing an island ATV tour and exploring the caves; Curacao is perfect. If you are there on a Friday night ask where "The Ranch" is for dinner. Pretty neat place for those who are serious carnivores; but it's only open on Friday night, and it's only 10 minutes from the hotel.
All in all, The Limestone is the best deal (dare I say) in the whole Caribbean.

“A nice alternative choice”

Limestone Holiday Resort

Mar 27, 2008

My family and I stayed at the Limestone Holiday resort during Easter week 2008 (3/15 - 3/23). We were picked up at the airport as planned by the taxi driver and did the 30 minute drive to the Spanish Waters Bay. It is located in a partially built-up neighborhood about 15 minutes Southeast of downtown Willemstad. We were very pleased with our 2 bedroom apartment as it was newly built (Nov 2007) and up on the second story. It was very nicely decorated and furnished. We were particularly happy with TVs and DVD players in all rooms (plus DirectTV w/ HBO in the living area) and the fanastic breeze that blew through if you opened the doors on front and back. The cost of the apartment was very reasonable especially considering it came with a small 4 door car (Suzuki) to use as well. During our trip we were able to explore most of the entire island including the various resort strips. We liked the peacefulness of Limestone better than the resort strips. Silvia and Roel were very good hosts and gave us good tips about what to do and where. The beach at limestone is very cozy (hammocks were especially nice) and the snorkeling close-by in the bay is not bad. We wanted to use their kayaks but never had a good opportunity when winds were low enough. Our only suggestions for improvement to our apartment was the shower water heater had not been installed yet in our son's bathroom and the beds are rather stiff making it difficult for us to sleep. We would also suggest that an instruction checklist be created and posted in each unit to give guidance of such things as room cleaning days and other general rules/suggestions. It takes a day or two to become confident with getting around the island and getting back to the resort. So I recommend you buy one of Roel's $6 maps and remember the lighted landmarks on the many different roads that take you in and out. The roads on Curacao are far from optimal, so be prepared to get bumped around somewhat. We mostly explored virtually all the beaches on the island but also experienced the aquarium and Hato Caves. The tug boat wreck not far from Limestone is great for non-divers. Decent priced restaurants are not easy to find so we recommend the Larry's restaurant you pass on your way to Limestone or the Denny's just down from the cruise ship pier. Others are fancier but much more expensive. The kitchen came in handy for breakfasts and picnic lunch preparation. In summary, I would recommend Limestone Holiday for budget-minded couples and families, especially those who are not fond of the crowds and fast-paced atmosphere of the big name resorts. Staying at Limestone is definitely more personable and relaxing. Please write me if you have any questions.

“Shore Diving at its best”

Limestone Holiday Resort

Mar 14, 2008

Great location, great rental car, very clean, peaceful nights, plenty of room.

We usually stay in resorts and after reading reviews on TripAdvisor and talking with Roel, property owner, directly we decided to stay a Limestone. We stayed in the two bedroom, #11 which was very clean, the kitchen was perfect, the balcony was comfortable. The beds were your "typical" carribean or mexican style beds, which are not our usual American Pillow tops. That is the only item I would change. Everything else was great. We were pleasantly surprised with our own rental car, included in the price of the room which was in great condition. Additionally, we were impressed with the satelite TV which we used for music most of the time and stayed in touch with the news when we wanted. Very quiet and very comfortable. We are no longer, "resort" snobs.... ATTENTION DIVERS: The best shore diving we have ever experienced. Amazingly easy and so much less expensive than the usual dive trips. We got tanks and weights at Silent Immersion which was so professional and wonderful people. Very trusting and informative. We drove all over the island, found a great beach and literally just walked into the water. Great visibility, grat small life, and easy easy diving. There was very little BIG FISH, but plenty of life and color. Highly recommend it. Fell in love all over again....

“What a wonderful place”

It's been 4 months since we came home from our holiday in Curacao and we're still talking about it. The children are offering to put money aside to help so we can go back. Not only do they want to go back to the wonderful island of Curacao, but they've made it perfectly clear that they want to stay at Limestone, even though they saw many other resorts while we were there.
Like many other reviewers we had initially wanted to stay at one of the bigger resorts. The problem was that we already had our plane tickets through airmiles and most of the resorts only book packages during the high season. I was a bit weary of booking at Limestone as it stressed the point of being a QUIET getaway and we have 3 young normally loud children. But it did say it was family oriented so we went for it. What a success! First of all the location is beautiful, and it is peaceful. It has been cleverly set up that the beach is below and a bit in front of the apartments and the noise of our children stayed on the beach. The beach is safe for all ages and it's wonderful to wake up in the morning and take a swim with the family and snorkel with the fish.
As recommended we rented a car through Limestone and that was perfect. We saw so much more of the island and were able to do it on our time schedule. Much more relaxed than needing to depend on the resort for your outings. We were in Curacao for 2 weeks and although we did not do every attraction/site/beach we felt like we'd definitely explored the island.
The apartments themselves were certainly not luxurious. Basic is a good word to describe them. On the other hand we did not spend much time in them. We were able to cook a few dinners at home and of course breakfast and lunch. The airconditioning worked and the apartment was clean and kept clean twice a week.
The hosts Roel and Sylvia were always helpful and friendly and our children enjoyed playing with their son and dog Blacky.
Should we have enough airmiles to go back we would without a doubt stay and Limestone again.

“Rip-off?”

Never got to stay at the Limestone, but had a booking for a week in April 2007 which I had to cancel in early February, 2007.

Without telling this at the time of booking, the managements charged me the downpayment of USD200 as a cancellation fee.

In April, they emailed me claiming I made a no-show and have to send my credit card number with permission to charge a cancellation fee - now USD300 - from my account.

How peculiar (?).
