This resort was fantastic - not sure why there are any negative reviews because it was a perfect vacation. We stayed there April 25th through May 1st. At the lobby desk we asked for a room by the beach/pool and there was no problem at all. We stayed in villa 4 and there was nothing wrong with our room (except the bed was kinda soft). The air conditioning was working full blast and there was a mini fridge with water, coke, and beer. We wrote a note to the maid to fill the fridge with more beer and left here a couple of dollars each day.
The beach was amazing - just like a postcard. Smooth white sand and palm trees all about. The water was perfect too. There is a tiki hut bar, volleyball, bachi ball, basketball, ping pong, archery, darts, dancing, and masages all on the beach. Plenty of chairs - we never had a problem getting a chair at the beach or the pool. I don't know why some of the reviews make it seem like you have to get up at 6:30 to reserve a spot. this is not true. There is a market just down the beach - I would suggest not buying anything there as the gift mall at the resort is much cheaper and cleaner. Btw, there were many topless ladies at the beach - being a 30 single male, this was not a problem at all!!
The pool - what can I say - the pool was perfect! I spent most of my afternoon at the swim up bar meeting other vacationers and relaxing. Most everyone I met was from Canada and I met a lot of friends this week. That was probably the best part of the trip was meeting new people.
The food was marginal and I'm not a huge food conisseuer, but it was definetely a 3 star food rating. The main buffet was pretty good, the buffet by the beach was just okay and the snack bar by the pool was okay (mostly pizza and chicken). We ate at the japanese, mexican and french restaurants. Nothing special really, if you've every been to benihanna you know what to expect from the japanese place. The french restaurant was closing the next day - i think they are opening an italian one this week. I had the lobster which was really good.
The entertainment at nite was decent - they work really hard to practice each day for the nite's performance. I was impressed. Oh, and on Monday nites there is a beach party with a pig roast, tons of bbq food, and dancing. Beats a monday nite back home!!
The resort is fairly large, but well kept and everyone is very nice. Most folks speak english and of course spanish. We took an excursion on a 4 wheel off road for 3 hours. I would suggest this as you get to ride through the country and on the beaches. very cool!
I would suggest this resort to everyone. There was a good mix of families, singles, couples, young and old.
