I travelled with a large party requiring at least four rooms at Mayfair. More than half of the air conditioners were not working; the rooms, including the bathrooms, were not clean (floors and table/countertops); there were droppings on the toilet; there were spiders in the closets and cupboards; two of the rooms ran out of water while people were still in the shower with soap in their eyes! Now here is the worst part: I was adjusting the hot water while in the shower and received an electrical shock (think very strong and continuous static shock) - NOT ONCE BUT TWICE - until I had to use my rubber flip-flops to turn off the water! After my shocking shower experience we began immediately to make alternate arrangements. Also noticed that security was very lax - the gate was wide open at night and no security guard was there - did not feel secure at all. The way the rooms are set up this seems more like an extended living facility - more like an apartment complex than a hotel. This is my fourth trip to Kingston, and speaking as a person who has stayed in rudimentary conditions in third world South America with no problems, I find the accomodations at Mayfair to be highly inadequate. The only plus was that the staff was courteous and seemed to make an effort to address our concerns, bringing fans to the rooms where the air conditioning was broken. Nonetheless, basic safety and security were lacking.
