“Perfect Place to stay!”

Hotel Sandhurst

4 of 5 stars
Kingston, Jamaica

I stayed at the Sandhurst in December of 2007. The hotel is not a 5 star, but it is really very nice! I needed somewhere clean, safe, not pricey, and in Kingston and this was a great choice! It is very close to the Bob Marley Museum and not far from Devon House, the Gardens and the staduim where I went to a concert. There were some minor repair stuff that needed to be done but it just gave the place character to me!

I love the rooms! It had all the stuff I basically needed! Two clean beds, a tv, a huge closet and drawers to put my things in. I had a nice view of the mountains and the staff treated me like family. They were the best! It was gated with 24 hour security.

The pool was great, so was the food. If you are looking for resort type luxury this is not the place for you. But if you want a place to stay if you are going to be out and about most of the day. This is the spot!
Who needs a lot of POOF when you are not in your room that much anyway?

Simple, and clean and I didn't need "All Inclusive" becasue I ate at different places in the city and did not want to be tied down to eating and drinking in one place. and the money I saved allowed me to do that!

Cozy Spot!!!
Will be back next year!!

“Owner Missed and Wanted”

Hotel Sandhurst

The Sandhurst Hotel is in Great Need for Its USA Based Owner , Mrs Blake , to get Involved and Clean up The Cowebs , Dirty Carpetings and Customers Relations Issues ...Other Then By Phone ...

Besides The Majority of Non-Public Oriented Employes Working There , who Most Times are Busy , Seating around , Working ???
more Likelly " chatting " and Loudly with each other or on Their Phones ... ( at Times , Not overstanding that some Foreign Guests do Overstand Patoit !!! )
making us wait for " everything " , We may ask until such time ...
Guests are awaiting half an Hour Average , Be it for a Coffee or for an Heavilly Greased Omelette or Questionable Surprise to Come from The Most Unwilling and Unfriendly Kitchen Female Cook ,( The Male " Chef " himself not Being there all The Time ... ) ,

and Chef- fette whom , because Of Her Maternity , another Guest was Told Off , isn't able to Handle herself alone without overworking herself , which will not be allowed By The Office head , her Friend .

3 Orders Of Toasts and another Customer's over-steamed " Chop Suey " ( ??? ) Veggies and Three Days Old Rice isn't any heavy schedule at one Time to Necessite an Assistant to Slice Veggies for One !!! ,

This other " Customer Being Told Off " after waiting how Long !!! by The head Office too ...

Maybe The " Chef fette " needs to go on Maternity Leave to Say the least ...and some real Knowledgeable in Foods , cook hired for a 40 bedrooms Hotel In Need of Care !!! Beside Most employes needed to run an Hotel & to assist the Only Office Employe That deals right with most Guests , Mrs Cindy .
Too many free Loaders ...

The Owner's Absence is Evident ...

The Disrepairs are also apparent to anyone who may have to stay there for a Few Days Besides the Occasional backpackers one night city visit ( as It did for me for a Month !!! )
I guess That is " Cool " for Them but backpackers would be better off dealing with Guest Houses ...
as We will Ourselves Now .
The Sewers smells , at Morning and Evening , are diseagreable to say the Least ... in One's rooms as with Guests on The Large Balcony ..
I am Not going into some large Coackroaches and a Rat that came to Munch on some Cookies ... one Night .

The Most Friendly Personal There , is To be Found in The Youth's , Working in The Yard and Rooms ( even dusting the Hotel Lobby , Living Room and Dining Rooms ... where is The Waitress ??? ) , If You do need anything , You may as Well ask Them for Service , & excluding for sure one of The Room cleanning Maid , You will know which one if You become a Guest There ... who it seems cleans your Room when She Likes To Besides at a Minimum and cannot be bothered with most of Us , needing Her Service ( Toilett paper and bed Staightenning , garbage emptying ... Shower stall and Toilett Cleanning ) without being diseagreable for Our Needs ... ???
and That is every few Days as She makes it clear by her behavior that She has other things to do besides Our Rooms and also Complains to Us with attitude .

The Month , I was In Kingston , at The Sandhurst , was not my First Visit ... Or my Familie's ... as We have a Lot of travelling with Our Work To Kingston .

But maybe for Its Lenght , gave me a Strong impression about the Sandhusrt Customer relations ( Minnimal to Non -existing )
as I got to hear from Most of The Guests that Visited That Month " Their Own daily Complaints ... " all relating to the Same Issues ... over and over again ...

before Giving up on My Reserve , Patience and Education and Calling upon The Kitchen Chef fette's Seating around , Her arrogance to Speak Patoit about me in The Front Lobby with the Office Employes ,
in front of us , Guests , like I wasn't standing there , Loud an half for me to hear her personal comment's from my table , about having finally served her my First Complaint about The " Plate " , She Served me , through speaking to the Waitress about my displeasure , that is
the Plate that was Served after 45 mn was like my room that was'nt cleaned that day , Mostly wilted and Cold

with me , calling the Waitress after a " Timed " 45 mn wait , watching them served other Customers , Jamaican Foreigns , That Ordered 15 mn after me ... and Receiving such Poorly put together Plate with a Rice That should'nt be served anymore ... , forget asking for Salt, as I was Told , my dish , was salted for Them an Half or The Pepper Sauce , which the Kitchen , has only One to Share for The 40 Bedrooms Hotel ... and was in a Customers' room or Bread ( ??? ) , not Mentionning never seen Salad and Desserts That are In The Menu with The Specials that We Order ...
What can I , say ???
I have 25 years experience in The Customer Service Industry and This is By Far , the worst bed side manners that any employe or Employes , has ever been allowed amongst me while Travelling around the World for the last 40 Years ...
but its like a Prize Badge for The Sandhurst , about being consistent with Their bad customer Service and Attitude ...
Where is This Owner ???
One Customer joked this Morning about how It would be better if Guest runned the Hotel !!!
She was'nt far from The Thruth ...

this was one of the worst place i have been in all my travels; the auxillar staff was ok but the management, and administrative staff lelft alot to be desired. as amatter of fact the night supervivior was quite obnoxious. not only would i not return to the sandhurst ; but i would never recommend it to any friend or family member. this place not only need a face lift but it also need a complete over-all of its entire management personnel.on a positive note the location is great ; but the security is poor .

“Sandhurst is my home in Kingston”

Being a writer, I have to spend long periods in Kingston on low budgets. Sandhurst provides the ideal "home away from home", safe, friendly, clean, although a bit old fashioned. In fact, I spend most of my time on the large terrace overlooking the hills, enjoying the breeze under the huge mango trees. Many musicians, producers and journalists use Sandhurst as their second home. Just avoid the rooms close to the swimming pool: too much dampness...

For those used to chrome and glass, this wouldn't be the place. The hotel is clean and some of the rooms have air conditioning. The pool needed painting last time I was there. But it's like going to see family when we stay there, and breakfast on the patio in the morning breeze is wonderful. Last time we vacationed in Kingston, we rented a house but went to the Sandhurst for breakfast.
