We stay at the Royal Decameron from April 12-26, 2008. There
were 5 of us, we had two rooms, one couple had a room with a king size bed and we (my husband, daughter and myself) had a room with 2 double beds, pull out sofa, table chairs, and both
rooms had a balcony, they were on the 3rd floor. The rooms were very clean, spacious and very comfortable, always had hot water in the full bathroom. Check in was fast, we arrived at 9pm on Saturday evening and they had everything ready for us, we went directly to our room and then they told us to right to the buffet restaruant as they were waiting for us for supper. The service in the restaurant was excellent for the two weeks, we had the same table, it's a tradition that we have when we travel, we like to keep the same table for each meal. At each meal there was a large variety of food to choose from, the staff were clean and the hot food was hot and cold food was on ice, there was something for everyone, our daughter is a verry fussy eater and we brought food with us but she did not have to use that and took it home with her. We ate at the a'lacarte two times and we ate at the snack bar numerous times for lunch, all the food was very good. There pools were very clean and the beach was cleaned daily. The service at the pool bar was not good, they catered to the young ones, if you were 19 female you got served right away, other than that you had to wait, the two other bars were better. There are lots of lounge chairs and it never seemed crowded there. We did some day trips, deep sea fishing, caught a tuna, and baracuda, was a great time, duns river falls it was great, would recommend this to everyone, these were arranged through the travel rep. Then we hired a taxi (make sure the taxi is licensed usually a red license plate, we got this tip on trip adviser) and went on a tour of the mountains and to the appleton rum factory, the mountains are very steep and lots of very sharp turns, but it was great to see how people lived, lots of poverty. We also used the same taxi for a trip to seven mile beach in Negril, and also went to ricks cafe and watched the cliff diving. would recommend this also. We found it a little cheaper to hire the taxi for these tours and we decided when we went, where and what time we went back to the hotel.
The hip strip, there are lots of shops, check out the prices, then make sure you barter with them as the first price they give you will be way toooo high, they expect you to barter. Would recommend you go in pairs when walking on the hip strip and there will be lots of people asking if you want to buy drugs, just a no thank you and keep walking and that is all, they will leave you alone. Used the banking machine on the strip and had no problem there, also went to banks, while with the taxi and had no problem cashing travelers cheques, use your passport for
ID. Overall we had a great two weeks there, the weather was great, hot everyday 28-31 daily, it rained only once and for short time. Would definately recommend this resort to couples and singles of all ages. There were people there with children, there are two pools, but not one for small children. Overall, had a great time and would go back, it was the ideal location for us.
