“Nice Spot, but too loud, and screens are needed”

Country Country Beach Cottages

Lots of folks have written about the lovely beach. True- it is nice, but it is also 7 + miles and there are lots of hotels along it.
Tips:
You need to be far from Margaritaville. It is pretty unpleasant as it literally shakes your cabin till 2am. The management here will do nothing to warn you of this or compensate you in any way for your less than restful stay.
The hotel needs some screens on the windows. As described by others, lots of people mention the mosquitos and imply there is nothing to be done... get some screens on the windows and the problem would be solved. There are lots of hotels with screens, I recommend you stay at one of those.
Staff is nice, but again, that is true elsewhere as well.

Country Country was delightful. We stayed in room 503, an upstairs cottage. Our room was clean and spacious, and had wonderful plantation shutters. Bring your bug spray though, mosquitos are everywhere! Breakfast was absolutely delicious, I highly recommend the banana pancakes and the traditional Jamaican breakfast. Even though is was Spring Break, the set up on the beach was private enough. Everyone had access to their own comfy chair and umbrella. The guard was great about keeping the beach sellers back if they bothered anyone. Really, it was no problem. As many posts have already mentioned, Margaritaville is pretty awful. We stayed Tues through Sunday and on Wed. And Sat. Evening the noise was pretty loud. However, if you have a cottage a bit further away from the beach, as we did, the noise is not too bad. Other nights the place closes down around 11.

I cannot recommend Country Country enough. I am planing another vacation as soon as possible. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were so much more than I ever expected, the beach is to die for, and the atmosphere is truly amazing.

“Charming, Charming, Charming”

Country Country Beach Cottages

Country Country is simply charming. We stayed in Unit #513 which is the bottom of the unit closest to the restuarant and beach, it has 2 twins and a daybed. We loved being so close to the beach. Breakfast was awesome as all previous reviews have stated. Dinner menu changes nightly and we found the food excellent. The beach is kept very clean, lounge chairs were all set up in the morning and towels always available. The guard keeps any locals that become too agressive at bay but I rarely saw that happen anyway. Staff was pleasant and helpful. All in all I didn't have one complaint. Just so enjoyable!

“Cool Runnings at Country Country”

Country Country Beach Cottages

4 of 5 stars
Washington, DC

After browsing several properties online, we decided to stay at Country Country (largely due to the many good reviews found on the internet and also because we liked the "Old Time Jamaica" design of the cottages). I'm happy to say that we were more than pleased with our choice and could easily see ourselves staying here again, since we travel to Jamaica on an annual basis.

Rooms - We had two premium rooms, both of which were stand alone cottages that proved to be exactly what we needed. My wife and I stayed in one cottage with our toddler son while my mother stayed in the other cottage. We didn't use the television but it worked fine and the refrigerator was a nice bonus, my wife also loved the fact that an electric kettle was included. Oh yes, the A/C was practically freezing - only used it when sleeping, didn't really need it otherwise.

Staff - Everyone was friendly and helpful but we really have to give Lee extra kudos. He always had a smile and got things done very quickly when asked for help. Our son (2 years old) loved him and Lee always took the time to make him feel special. Housekeeping was also on the ball and our rooms were always cleaned in a timely and efficient fashion. There is security on the front of the property and also on the beach - helpful with vendors who might be a little too persistent, and also with setting up beach chairs when hands are full.

Beach - It's hard not to love the beach on any of the Negril properties but we liked the fact that they had a big almond tree for shade. Other reviews have commented about not enough beach chairs but there were 4 of us and we never had any issues getting a chair. Of course, this being Negril, the vendors were out in force but they weren't overly persistent and there's a security guard to help keep them at bay if they get carried away with the sales pitch. In the end, we actually enjoyed being able to buy some fresh fruit or Jamaican ice cream without jumping into the car and going searching.

Restaurant - Peppa is the hotel restaurant and although it is small, we never had problems finding a table and the fact that it's right on the beach makes the atmosphere perfect. There were not a lot of menu choices but the food was quite good even if the service was of the "soon some" variety (friendly but slow).

NEGATIVES - As much as we enjoyed our stay, it wasn't quite perfect and there were a few negatives that stand out...

Music - One negative was the incredibly loud and obnoxious music from Margaritaville, at least they could have had the decency to be playing reggae music. To be honest, most nights we could hear it and it didn't bother us but there were two nights when it was loud enough to shake our cottages, even though we were two properties away down the beach. I honestly don't think this is a problem outside of spring break because we've stayed at the Beachcomber in the past (which is even closer to Margaritaville) and not had this problem. I don't really blame the hotel as there are other party spots on 7-mile beach where this probably happens but it's something you need to be aware of as a possibility.

Mosquitos - There were a lot of mosquitoes but you'll find this just about anywhere on the island and they did provide electronic repellant devices that seemed to help with the problem, along with offers to spray our rooms when we were out. In the end though, the mosquitos just found our son too delicious to ignore.

Crib - Last but not least, we liked that they offered cribs for infants and toddlers but we were charged a daily fee for using the crib while their in-room info book stated that use of cribs was free. When I asked about this, the manager on duty said there was nothing she could do about it because she didn't have the authority to remove the charge from my bill. Just a minor nit since we were expected to pay anyway but if their own literature states that this service is free then we shouldn't have been charged.

But, the negatives were minor in terms of the overall experience. We really wanted someplace that was unique and relaxing, without being the typical all-inclusive tourist trap. All that and more was found at Country Country.

“A Relaxing Vacation at Country Country”

Country Country Beach Cottages

Mar 20, 2008
4/4 found this review helpful

My friend and I, spent 8 days at Country, Country in late Feb and we agree its one of the most relaxing times we've had. I always read traveladvisor before booking a vacation so I thought it would be appropriate to give back!

ROOM
We had a deluxe room so it was a stand alone cottage. The room was spacious and always clean but the one issue we had were MOSQUITOES!! they were EVERYWHERE!! we spent the first hour killing many of them but somehow we can never get all of them... no fear though, Lee came and gave us a mosquito net and some repellant. They stayed there throughout our trip and I recieved several bites but by the end, you just didnt care -- there are some battles you just cant win!

BEACH
GORGEOUS. I have been going to various places in the caribbean at least twice a year for the past 7 years and this ranks very highly on the list of beautiful beaches. The water is clear and the sand is soft and the sunsets on the beach are GORGEOUS. You cant take enough pictures and even then, you have to be there in person to appreciate the full beauty of it. but of course, run inside right after the sunset bc the mosquitoes start to swarm
For beach chairs, you either have to a) get up super early and claim your chair, but even then, you might nto get one, or b) ask Lee to reserve one for you

FOOD
Breakfast was included so we ate at the restaurant every morning. Couldnt get enough of the honey, vanilla friend toast or banana pancakes.. YUMMY! and everything comes with BACON! :) the fresh juice is great too. For lunch we would eat Jamaican Beef patties or walk along the beach to other hotels that were serving jerk chicken or other yummy things. CC also has a great lunch menu as well. For dinner we ended up going to Rockhouse TWICE.. the sunset is gorgeous and the food is delicious! Highly recommend the coconut creme brulee and the great cocktails. We also went to Chicken Lavish -- great jerk chicken, and at Ernie's recommendation, we went to LTU which is right next to Ricks. Speaking of Ricks, although its a super touristy spot, like Senor Frogs, its worth the trip to see the divers and the sunsets. Norma's at Sea Splash was good -- the jerk chicken pasta was great. One night we did go next door to the Tree House bc they were having a dinner and show on the beach with a fire breather and live entertainment.

ACTIVITIES
The only activity we went on was a tour of YS Falls and Appleton Rum. Erdly -- who happens to be Ernie's uncle took us around for the day. It takes about 2.5 hrs to get to YS Falls but its well worth it. The falls are beautiful and is a great photo op. It isnt huge but take your time -- there is also a nice pool there to rinse off and relax. Afterwards, we went to Appleton Rum to take a tour of the factory -- it is right near YS Falls. The tour was great and includes free tasting at the end. By then, we were STARVING. What we didnt know was that you can arrange to have lunch at Appleton, but since we didnt know, we drank on an emtpy stomach. Erdly did however take us to a local roadside restaurant which was an experience in itself. We did have really good oxtail stew though.

VENDORS ON THE BEACH
Yes, there is a stream of endless vendors who are selling things, asking if you want to go parasailing or water sports but a polite no, thanks or maybe later, is all you need. And, you become familiar with everyone bc its the same vendors everyday. I do recommend to buy the freshly squeezed juices. Mango and SourSop were my favorite, my friend loved the pineapple juice too. BE SURE TO BARGAIN!!! I saw a guy buy a stalk of Aloe for $20!! I got 2 stalks for $5!!

SECURITY
I've heard many stories about Jamaica and was a bit concerned, especially since we were two girls, but i felt perfectly safe the entire time. Security at CC was great and they always ask where you're going if you're leaving the hotel and they keep an eye on you. Case in point -- a few of our friends were staying at the hotel next door and they tried to come over to our hotel around 10 pm at night but the security guard would not let them come to our room! After that, we knew the security guards were really looking out for us. They are on guard 24/7.

CABS
You can ask one of the drivers of the hotel to take you anywhere but they will be more expensive than just going out to the main road and hailing a cab yourself. When you do hail one, be sure it has RED PLATES -- those are the official cabs and be sure to ask what they're charging you BEFORE you get in. To get to Rockhouse from CC should only run you about $4 a PERSON.

OVERALL
It was a great experience. I normally do all-inclusives so this was the first time in a long time i didnt so there were some stressful aspects about food and such, but Jamaica has some wonderful food and I'm glad we got to go and experience it. The beach is gorgeous and the attitude is very chill. I would go back and def stay at CC. The staff was very helpful and polite and they do their best to make you feel at home and they are eager to show off their country.
