“Thanks for the Memories”

I have to put in a word for the places I experienced this last reach. It has been a long time since I have stayed at Bar B Barn. Without going into details, there have been some major operational changes in management and food services etc. there that are still evolving as we speak. But the family member who normally just ran the hotel has taken over other parts of the operation, and the changes are quite evident.

Many of the rooms have been refurbished (a process which I had seen going on for a while), and my second floor room was comfortable, and most importantly, immaculate. My floors and ceiling were new, as well as my bathroom fixtures. The same charm of what I call, gingerbread furniture, was still there however to keep the feel of a boutique Jamaican hotel.

If anyone is concerned about food because of the change, worry not, it's still excellent. Honestly I hadn't been eating much lately, but one of my favorites that made me clean the plate was the chicken parmesan from the Italian restaurant.

On the beach and want to ear, have a drink???? NO PROBLEM, they bring it out to you.

The staff....what can I say....EXCELLENT, I have NO staff complaints, only compliments, and may I say that the atmosphere among the staff is so much more relaxed now. They had a hard row to hoe too because the place was PACKED all of the time. Word must be out that this is the place to be, even if you are not staying there.

Another wonderful thing that Angela has done is the live entertainment. They were so good that I was hanging on my bar stool every night just shouting at them. There is a soloist named Shellie MY GOODNESS, I had to call Angie on my cell phone and let her hear this lady singe "Summer Time", and when I request my fav "Turn Your Lights Down Low" this girl TORE IT UP. She is not afraid to stylize beyond the way the original artist did the song, and she is just a bundle of energy.

There are TWO people backing her up that sound like a whole darn band.

You get beach chair service and beach towel service, and your breakfast comes with your room, and that means anything on the menu for breakfast.

At midnight on New Years Miss Angela was on the beach pouring free champagne for her guests (and not just one glass too), and there are free drinks specials often, like rum punch etc (I watched them make it, and they don't skimp).

I also like the fact that Angela comes down most nights to hang out WITH the guests. I saw many repeat guests come and hug her like she was family. She is also not adverse to rolling up her sleeves and helping her staff in a pinch, to the point that I saw her sweating profusely in one of her gorgeous outfits, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to make BBB a success.

Security is always on the job, and the beach area is kept tight.

You are within walking distance of everything you need, and it is on a great location on the beach. I'm going to have to give BBB my stamp of approval and encourage anyone who is interested to stay there.

“Best Drinks on the Beach”

Bar-B-Barn is an clean, well-kept property. There was some kitchen construction going on while we were there, which slowed food service down somewhat, but otherwise the accommodation was great. The staff are friendly and helpful and Wade, the evening bartender makes the BEST drinks ever. Try the Banana Smoothie! The beach can be problematic, as it is pretty well throughout Negril. Too many huksters and too many beggars who won't leave you in peace. This is not the fault of the hotel, and Ryan, the security guard, mostly has your back. Most nights there is live music in the bar area and the location of the hotel makes it convenient to walk to town or walk to other venues on the beach. All in all, a good place to stay.

“dont expect the hilton”

Bar-B-Barn

Aug 12, 2007

My husband and I spent 4 nights here last year. The room had 2 double beds stuffed into a very small room. We never had hot water the entire 4 days. Our room didnt have a balcony but a walkway going past our window. The window overlooked a private house. Sort of felt we were intruding on them. The Reggae music next door went on for one night until after 1 am and another night after 3 am. REALLY LOUD!

I've stayed at Bar B Barn in the past and loved it but did not get around to writing a review, so I'll correct that oversight right now. We arrived after 8 pm probably close to 9, checked in and was taken straight to our room. We had a standard room (Room 124) with 2 double beds, a/c, ceiling fan, cable tv, nice verandah with 2 chairs and a table to enjoy relaxing outside our room. The bathroom was spacious with full shower and tub, and a huge closet which housed the safe deposit box. Our room was spotlessly cleaned daily by the beautiful Lorraine, our housekeeper. The staff was friendly, , there but not intrusive always seeking to make your stay a pleasurable one. Norm was ever present ensuring that your every need was met with a smile.

Breakfast was a part of the room rate, a mix of American and Jamaican fare plus fresh fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee. It was delicious and my son enjoyed his pancake/french toast fix daily. The beach was raked daily, clean and gorgeous, chairs set up and security watchful over guests.

I had the pleasure to eat at Norm Yard Food for an inexpensive, yummy lunch and the gourmet restaurant for dinner one evening. Lovely food in a quiet atmosphere. Evenings were quiet and restful. I could go on over and over about Bar B Barn, so I'll just say if you are seeking comfortable, inexpensive accomodations, with a great beach location look no further than Bar B Barn.

If you consider you are in Jamaica you can not complain.
Service was not the best. Some of the staff seemed to be annoyed by the presence of guests . Bulding facilities not always perfeclty working. But .....
Room was big enough and clean .
Good bar and restaurant
The location is right on the beach and very close to the main night live music spots
Definitelly good value for money.
Relaxing and enjoable atmosphere
