We spent a week at Mirage in one of the 1st floor rooms (the largest on the end towards the beach).
Patricia, who oversees the property, is wonderful! She lives there with her two young boys and was always very attentive to any needs we might have.
The room was very nice. It was HUGE, and very clean with mini frig, cable TV with remote, excellent a/c with remote, coffee maker and fan. The room also had a comfortable king sized bed and a balcony with table and two chairs, a lounger and a wonderful view of the sea!
The bathroom was also HUGE, with wardrobe, sink area and large shower. There was always hot water; however, the water pressure for the shower could have been better (but I think its a Negril thing and not the hotel itself).
Excellent maid service was provided daily and she would wait until you were heading out for the day.
The property is right on Cliff Road, a 10 minute walk to Rick's Cafe (very nice place to hang out a few times), and a short taxi ride to the beach.
It sits right between the renamed Mariner's Inn (now Negril Escape) and Tensing Pen.
Of course you only have to wait about 10 seconds to get a taxi to anywhere you want to go, but negotiate the fare. They try to charge you $10 for a ride to the beach, but we always ended up paying only 3J.
Most days, we took a taxi down to Mirage's sister property on the beach, the Charlea Inn, which is a very nice beach location and they had plenty of lounge chairs/towels (you sign for) to provide you and lots of shady areas under their numerous palms.
The Charlea Inn is next to White Sands, so we took advantage of their special 2 for 1 drinks several days.
This was our first trip to the cliffs and we enjoyed it; however, I (wife) missed out on some of the beach nightlife I would have liked since once we got back from the beach, I couldn't convince hubby to go back out! There is no bar/restaurant/pool on the property and not a lot of choices very close by. There are two small grocery stores within a short walk.
The Mirage advertises it is clothing optional. We did not find the resort very conducive to this however, and didn't see anyone taking advantage of this, but there is a small secluded area where you can sunbathe in the nude if you choose to. We did not feel comfortable doing this.
Mirage is a wonderful small cliff hotel for anyone who likes to stay on the cliffs. It is definitely a place for peace and quite! They have security at night from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. and they lock the gates at night and open them for you whenever you return.
