“Great Honeymoon!”

Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa

May 14, 2008
4/4 found this review helpful

My wife and I decided to go to Sandals Negril for our honeymoon in 2006. Yes, it is a bit late, seeing that it is 2008, but I have recently "got into" the TripAdvisor website, so I thought I would do my part.

First off: Airport - We landed in Montego Bay and had no problem finding the "Sandals" lounge that you get to hang out in while you wait for your ride to the Sandals resort... The lounge is a really neat idea and we really enjoyed knowing "hey we belong here" and most people are extremely friendly and helpful. One note about the airport: the baggage guys are kind of like hustlers, they are working for tips and make that very clear.

We had a bus ride with other couples, i think all on their honeymoons, to Negril. If i remember correctly it was about a 30-40 minute ride, not too bad, with one stop for beer/bathroom. Some people will enjoy this ride, and other people might not. (those more on the snobby side) :P

When we arrived at Sandals, the welcome was wonderful. We were whisked in, given drinks, and told welcome home. The staff was amazingly friendly! Things were off to a great start.

My wife and I had a 24/7 room server room with an ocean view. the rooms are nice, not crazy 5-star nice, but great considering you are in Jamaica, and we really liked them.

The first couple of days we were there, crowds of people were at 200% party mode, and there were lots of fun parties going on in the pool, with staff keeping the party going.

The beach was beautiful the whole time we were there!

The first place we ate was the bay side restaurant, and we seemed to eat there very often - good quick food and cold beer!

the first nights there was always something neat going on at night, a beach dinner party, or another kind of dinner party, etc. i really enjoyed getting to taste different Jamaican food and found that to be very fun.

Our absolute favorite restaurant, and a must visit, was Kimonos, it was GREAT! Even better than a nice shogun place from our home in Arkansas... hey we have decent sushi here in Arkansas, but we're no San Fran.

The Sundowner was also really fun, and the food was really good - dressing up added to the atmosphere and made a evening like that really fun.

We had no complaints really about the place, it can be a lot of things to a lot of people, a fun party place, or a nice relaxing romantic place, which is hard to achieve!

Every morning i woke up and took a steam at the spa, which cleared my sinus infection, big plus! My wife and I also had a couples massage, and i SWEAR my neck problem VANISHED. So i owe a lot to Sandals Jamaica!

If there are any negatives it would be the bathrooms, which seemed more 3-star or less. the water pressure wasn't any good either, but hey I never have enough water pressure.

Before i forget, the Blue Mountain Coffee is AMAZING. *GREAT* coffee and my wife and i loved having it with breakfast every morning.

Wish i was there right now, but oh well :-)

“Perfect Honeymoon”

Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa

5 of 5 stars
Baltimore

We left Baltimore and it was pouring down rain and chilly but arrived in Montego Bay to sunny skies and a balmy 85 degrees. Upon arriving at the resort we were given cold towels, champagne and rum punch after about a 90 minute drive from the airport through the beautiful Jamaican country side. We were shown to the concierge office and filled out some quick paperwork and we were introduced to the first of our two butlers, Myron. Myron grabbed our luggage and took us on a tour of the grounds as we made our way to our room. We paid for the Honeymoon beach front suit with butler service and we were excited to learn that we had been automatically upgraded by Sandals to the riverfront honeymoon penthouse suite. The room was luxurious. King size poster bed with whirlpool tub, glass shower, a living room, balcony, 2 plasma tvs, and a mini bar to rival no other, stocked with all top shelf liquors.

Here we met our second butler - Kenrick who had champagne chilling for us when we arrived. We were speechless the room was so perfect. We were handed a cell phone that allowed us a direct line to our butlers and were told to call for whatever our little hearts desired.

We freshened up and sipped some champagne on our balcony and soaked in the view, and wow what a view we had. That night they had a beach party with food, drinks, entertainment from a steel drum band, a fire breather and games for the guests. After the party we sought some night life in the main beach bar were you could order what ever you wanted and didn't have to even tip!

The next morning we phoned Kenrick and asked if we could have breakfast on our balcony. He arrived about 20 minutes later with a tray of food, whites gloves and prepared our table for us. He told us that he had reserved two chairs under a shady coconut tree when were were ready to hit the beach. We made our way to the beach and found our seats with a sign that read - "These chairs reserved for Mr and Mrs". My wife had a fresh flower on her chair and I had a cooler stocked with Red Stripe, sodas and water. We settled in and here comes Kenrick with a frosty Pina Colada for my wife balanced on his head and a strawberry banana rum smoothie for me. Kenrick would check on us periodically to make sure our glasses were topped of and if we needed anything.

That night we made reservations for one of the 5 restaurants on the resort. After showering we were greeted by Kenrick and escorted to dinner. We were ushered past the waiting lines and shown to our reserved table complete with flower pedals scattered on the table. The food was amazing and the service impeccable.

For the next few days that was our life. We never had to lift a finger or want for anything. We had lunch served on the beach and Myron even had a warm bubble bath waiting for us with candles and rose pedals floating in the jacuzzi tub after soaking in the sun. We were treated like royalty.

The staff at Sandals is top notch. All the workers go out of their way to make you feel at home and ensure you are enjoying yourself even right down to the security guards on the beach who always greet you with a smile and offer up good conversation about their homeland. Americans need to take cues from the Jamacians and be as freindly and laid back as they are - No Problem Mon! We went snorkeling one day, my wifes first time. The tour guides were hilarious and took underwater photos for us as were swam with the fish.

If Robbie and Caroline - our new freinds from Memphis are out there, send us an email!

If you are getting married or know someone who is, take our word for it, Sandals Negril is the place to go. You can relax, eat, drink, go on tours or simply do nothing and still have a wonderful time, it was worth every penny.

We look forward to going back for an anniversary in the future to our new second home.

Thank you Myron and Kenrick for an amazing honeymoon that we will never forget.

-Fran and Renee

“Best Time Ever!”

Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa

5 of 5 stars
Alabama
May 13, 2008
9/9 found this review helpful

My husband and I stayed at Sandals, Negril at the end of April for our honeymoon. When we booked our honeymoon a year ago, we were just looking for somewhere nice and something other than a cruise. Our travel agent had suggested staying at the Sandals Resort in Negril, Jamaica. After looking at the cost and pictures, we decided it would be a great idea. The idea of staying at an ultra all-inclusive resort sounded right up our alley.

Finally, after a year-long engagement, we got married in our hometown and were headed to Jamaica for our honeymoon. From the beginning, even the flight exceeded our expectations. We flew Air Jamaica, which was only a 2 1/2 hour flight from Atlanta, but we were still served with a hot breakfast and there were mini TVs onboard. It was an unexpected surprise since we kept hearing everyone complain about how poor the services are on planes nowadays.

When we arrived at the Montego Bay airport, we headed off to the Sandals lounge where we could relax and have some drinks while the staff handled our luggage. Then they called out the resorts individually (there are several Sandals/Beaches resorts in Jamaica) and we loaded onto a shuttle bus. The ride is about an hour and a half and it was quite an adventure, to say the least. There seem to be no traffic laws other than a system of horns honking and headlights flashing. Everyone passes everyone on the road and you seem to be in a constant game of chicken as you go head on with oncoming traffic to pass cars. Fortunately, we made it there safe and sound.

Once we got to the resort we waited for check in. After about 15-20 minutes, a gentleman greeted us and said he would take us to our room. As we were walking to our room, he informed us that we had been upgraded to the river suites and that we also had butler service. I could have cried, I was so excited! Our room was absolutely amazing! The bathroom is the size of my childhood bedroom. There are two plasma TVs in the room, a large and extremely comfortable bed, a fully stocked minifridge, and a selection of liquors in dispensers in the cabinets. Every thing about the room was obviously designed with great detail and we were very impressed. The river suites section was built only about three months ago and so everything was still nice and new. We learned that we had two butlers, Kenrick and Myron, who alternated shifts. We also learned that we had a cell phone to carry with us on the resort to contact them at any time. Let me just say, the butlers were excellent! They were very polite and helpful and such a delight to have. Our trip would not have been what it was without them! Every morning we got up and went down to the beach and there would be two chairs, towels, floats, an umbrella, a stocked cooler with beer, water, and sodas ready for us with our names on the table. Each day we called and made reservations for dinner and each night our butler would come to our room about 5 minutes beforehand and escort us down to the restaurant past everyone else who had to wait. As for the restaurants, the food was great. I consider myself a food connoisseur (simply because I love to eat) and I couldn't find a meal there I didn't like even if I tried. I don't understand how people could complain about anything on the resort, much less, the food. We ate at all of them, the Barefoot Restaurant, Kimono's, Sundowner, The 4C's, and Bayside. We also had the buffet breakfast and lunch from the Bayside and lunch from the Beach Grille. To be fair, my husband is a very picky eater and even he loved everything we ate.

As for activities that the resort offers, there are several to choose from including: snorkeling, parasailing, jet skiing, scuba diving, etc. (Note: some of them do have a charge). We went on the glass bottom boat ride and did some snorkeling. Snorkeling was an amazing experience. The tour guides were hilarious and we had a blast with them. Once you get out into the middle of the ocean you get off and swim around for about 30 minutes. We went through a cave and saw all sorts of marine life. One of the guides is there to point out certain things of interest and also to take pictures. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Overall, our honeymoon was fantastic!! My husband and I have never been so relaxed (and lazy). After all the stress of planning a wedding, this was the perfect vacation! We were very sad to go and are already planning our return trip for our anniversary.

“Small things about Sandals Negril”

Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa

5 of 5 stars
Little Rock, AR

My trip to Sandals Negril was an experience of a lifetime. From most of the reviews you can probably gather whether Sandals is right or wrong for your next vacation; however if you have already booked a trip to Sandals Negril...hear is a few small things to note.

The beach in Negril is incredible. It's better than any beach i've been to in mexico and St. Lucia. Don't even compare the beach in MoBay or Ocho Rios to Negril. You can walk 20 yard from shore and still stand waist deep in water.

The drinks made by every bar are more than generous. The bartenders don't hesitate adding an extra splash if you request it. Beer gets hot in the glasses quick. Some of our friends bought coffee travel mugs to keep their beer colder longer.

Morning breakfast is always the right peace to wake-up too. Usually Sandals has a gentleman playing acoustic guitar and singing as you eat. Blue mountain coffee, water, and mimosa's are served during breakfast.

The pool is very small at the resort. Most people spent their time on the beach rather than the pool. If you want to spend your time at the pool...get out their early enough to reserve a seat.

Sandals provides many photographers that will capture some great photos to purchase. We opted for a cd to make as many copies as we wanted back home. Be weary though, the pictures and cd's aren't affordable. Approx. $15 a photo.

Snorkeling at Sandals is well worth the 1 hour excursion. The guides are plenty entertaining as you boat to the reef. The snorkeling is free as apart of Sandals.

For any off resort visits, I reccomend a visit to Rick's Cafe before sunset. The bar / resturant has live music at sunset and plenty of fun for those cliff divers. Don't be afraid, it appears much higher than it actually feels when you step off the edge. A place not to visit is Margaritaville. The bar / resturant is flocked with cruise vactioners that litter the beach with trash and the crowds make getting a drink nearly impossible.

Another popular tour in the area is the black river, appleton rum tour, and YS falls. All three are plenty entertaining if you book them togather, but i wouldn't do each seperatly. The drive from Negril is roughly 80-90 minutes to the area where they are all located.

When we booked our trip, we split our time in Negril at Sandals on the beach and the Rockhouse hotel on the cliffs. I highly reccomend anyone considering this trip to check both hotel / resorts out. The rockhouse provided us a much relaxed atmosphere (not as fun to me) but the beauty of the resort was 10 x better than anywhere i've ever spent in the world.

This is our third time at Sandals Negril and our tenth time at the Sandals properties.....I have traveled to other all inclusives and have also cruised but Sandals is like no other...The hotel is incredible and the people who work there are so special and warm and friendly...
We never had a dull moment from the time we got there until we left...We snorkeled, swam in the warm sea, floated in the sea and rode the hobie's...There is so much to do on the property and if you just want to relax you can do that too...
The food was incredibly wonderful and the drinks great.....
We love it so much there that we are planning on going back the first week of December...We have been going on average twice a year and wish we could go more!
I would make a wonderful spokes person for Sandals as thats how much I would highly reccomend it to anyone who wants an all inclusive getaway just for adults....I have 9 grandchildren and sometimes just like my time away for a while and with Sandals thats exactly what I get...
Anyone with children should definately try Beaches thats the family resort....I have seen the properties but choose not to stay there but everyone I have spoken to with children who have been at Beaches love it too....
