“Not worth the money”

Legends Resort

This place was a 1.5-2 hr drive from Montego Bay Airport.

My boyfriend, his parents and I stayed at this resort to get away and have an island vacation. Although we do look back and laugh, it was not worth the money. We stayed from the 28th of June to the 4th of July, 2007. We would have paid a great price for an all-inclusive resort, however, here's the thing: it is not a resort, and it is really not all-inclusive like you would imagine. This place is very small. You have to cross a busy street to go from one pool/area to the beach/second area. I still look back at it as a motel. You also have very limited choices when it comes to food. At most resorts, you can choose between restuarants, but at this motel, it is the same cook every day of the week with about 3 different choices. The cook was very sweet and she did try to cook good food, however, if you are here for a week you need variety. We went to the restuarant next door a few times and wasted hundreds of dollars, when if we would have booked elsewhere, we would have paid the same price because we would have been able to eat in a place with variety. The drinks here were not good, they did not use a lot of liquor, and when we asked for drinks it seemed as if we were inconveniencing the staff, even though it was "all-inclusive." The rooms were in dire need of upgrades, and by upgrades, I mean that the mattresses were placed on concrete slabs. One thing about the rooms, however, was that although they needed a lot of help, at least there were no bed bugs. The two good things about this place were: 1) A beautiful beach, and 2) A majority of the workers were pleasant, however, there are other islands where the people are much friendlier and nicer.

The majority of the people who seemed to be enjoying themselves were young Europeans who were there to just hang out.

Notes about the area: 1) If you go for a walk down the beach, you will be CONSTANTLY hassled to buy/look at things. 2) Marijuana is omnipresent, 3) If you buy stuff from people, they WILL try to overcharge you, so try and use Jamaican currency--> We used USD to buy a lobster on the beach and quickly realized that he charged us double the price. (We ran after him when we did the math and got it back, although this was not necessarily a good idea).

Because of experience, will not return to this hotel or to Jamaica.

IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY, my advice is to SPEND A COUPLE HUNDRED MORE AND STAY AT A MUCH BETTER PLACE that has variety and a much more. Not worth the money at all. This motel is about 1/2 a star. This place is good ONLY for young kids who just want to get away and get crazy which is why it is spring break central.

The only reason we end up laughing about it now is because I went with a great group of people that compensated for everything else.

The manager is unethical. They overbooked and tried to send me to a dump down the street. Don't prepay.

“Terrible”

Upon our arriaval to the resort, it appeared to be OK. But , As our stay continued, It became very, very bad. The secruity guard Harrassed our guests, Tryed to intimidate us.. Hotel and Staff were told of medical issuses with this guest., tryed to make trip relaxing, But again the,the trip turned terrifying when the secruity guard allowed a man to enter my room and stand over me while I was sleeping. . No Consequences were given to the secruity. I guess they told him not to say anything to me, but he still tryed to intimidate me and my roommate. He even wrote me a letter saying what he wanted to do to me and put his phone number on it.. I kept it to show the hotel was his plans were, nothing was done. I would not referr anyone to stay at LEGENDS because of the issuses with the secruity guard LEON., And the food was BAD, They had the same items on the menu for the week. You were given 1 serving for the morning, lunch, dinner. When it means ALL INCLUSIVES, That means you should be able to eat as much as you like. That was not the case. Legends is not the place for women who are traveling along. Further actions will be taken with this hotel and there secruity guard. Safety for me was not there. I had 5 seizures on this trip, due to the stress, no medication and the constant fear for my safety.!!!!!!!!!!!!

“No problem...”

Legends Resort

Well, I debated back and forth whether or not to stay at Legends, after reading the various mixed reviews on trip advisor. My sister and I are problem solvers and pretty layed back, so we decided to pack extra towels, and go for it.

First thing I would like to say is, if you pay Motel 6 prices, do not expect the Grand Lido, in all fairness to Legends. Secondly, make sure to pack a positive and pleasant attitude. It worked for me.

We enjoyed five, fun filled, safe, and relaxing days at Legends. There was always security at the gates when you came in or out. The security on the beach was excellent, they are looking out for you even when you don't think they are. The food was okay, but I would not recommend the all inclusive. We preferred the local restaurants. I strongly recommend Sweet Spice, the oxtails melt in your mouth. For a little splurge, I recommend Kuyaba's, beautiful atmosphere, and the food was excellent.

The hotel staff is pleasant and housekeeping does a great job with what they have to work with. And yes, my sheets were clean, the A/C, and the fan worked. And yes, some of the hotels practices are a little outdated, but they worked.

If you want a professional and punctual tour guide I highly recommend Fabian Woodbine of Jamaica Tours.

All of my valuables and passport returned with me, I do recommend using the hotel safe.

Overall, would I stay again, yes.... But, next time longer.
No Problem.....

“Great on a budget!”

Legends Resort

Me and my fiance stayed here from May 26-May 30, 2008. From Montego Bay Airport to Negril is an hour drive. Since there was traffic and only a one lane street it took almost 2 1/2hrs.

Don't go in May, we found out that's their month for the most rain and hurricane season begins the end of May.

I would suggest to take the bus shuttle if it's offered with your travel.

Have lots of dollar bills on you to tip everyone that offers you any type of service...driver, baggage handler, maid, locals, security, etc.

Now onto the hotel...

Legends is a small hotel. Our room was okay. 2 Queen beds that were not comfortable to sleep on but bearable, an old dresser, a small 12" tv which only had 4 clear channels and a broken remote, and no antenna, no clock, and no working lamp.

Good thing is that it had an AC Unit and a ceiling fan!

The bathroom just like the room was OUTDATED. Everything worked but they don't provide you with anything except for 3 rolls of toilet paper, 2 towels, a floor towel and one bar of hand soap.

If you stay please bring your own Shampoo, soap, body wash, small wash cloth, lotion, q-tips, cotton, blowdryer, and iron etc.

Bring extra towels! The 2 towels they provide you, they take them out of the room every morning at around 11am. They collect all the towels at once and wash them all at once. Once they're clean they bring it back to your room by 2-4pm. They don't have extra towels for you 24/7.

The all inclusive starts from 8am - 10pm. The One and ONLY draft beer that's a part of their all inclusive is called Real Rock. It's cheap and very bitter. Expect to pay $3 (US) for Red Stripe. That's a local beer not sure why its not a part of their all inclusive. Their mixed drinks that include RUM are also a part of their all inclusive. The rum they use is CHEAP too. Found it at a souvenier store for only $6.50 (US) and it taste like rubbing alcohol but you get use to it.

Breakfast buffet every morning included cereals, milk, oj, white toast, Eggs made however you want, Fried dumpling which is basically an American Version of a Pilsbury Crossaint but much smaller and fried, 2 hot plates which were different everyday. The 2 hot plates for breakfast would be either corn beef and hash, mackeral in tomato sauce, french toast, pancakes, fish, oatmeal.

Lunch Buffett would always be 2 main dishes and 2 sides. Each day was different and would include: Hamburger, Hot Dog which looked and tasted like rubber, Escovitch Fish, Fried Chicken Wings, and sides; fries, rice, vegies (boiled potatoes and carrots)

Dinner Buffett would also be 2 main dishes and 2 sides. Each day also different. It would include things like: Escovitch Fish, Beef Stew, Goat Curry, Chicken Curry, Lasagna, Rice, Vegies (boiled potatoes and carrots)

Dessert: would be cake made from a box but with no frosting.

Food was NOT great, but some were edible and it got us thru the day.

Service and employees were AWESOME. Everyone is so nice and very helpful and super friendly.

Michael and Oreck are the hotel's beach security. They are there from morning til night making sure that no hasslers step onto hotel beach perimeter. Your stuff is very safe if you want to leave it on the lawn chairs that are provided while you're swimming in the ocean or out snorkeling etc.

The beach in Negril is BEAUTIFUL! Crystal clear water. I would even see small lil fishes swimming a few feet away from where I was standing. You could drop a penny and see it. That's how freaking clear it is! I loved the beach! It's very calm and relaxing not many waves at all.

There are many locals walking up and down the beach trying to get your attention to buy some "herbs". They're not allowed to step in the imaginary line of the hotel beach perimeter. If they do, Michael will tell them to keep walking. If you want to buy something from them, you must walk out of this imaginary line and do your business on the side.

There's a Fruit lady who walks up and down the beach everyday with fresh mango, pineapple, coconut and papaya. Good SWEET stuff!!

There's 2 different guys who walk up and down selling Spiny Lobster for $7/pc or 3 for $20...that's good too!!

You'll also see locals selling small art carvings, or a 3 Rasta man band waiting to be stopped so they can play you some Raegae with their tin instrument things (not sure of the correct term) or a guy who wants to sing you his song with his acoustic guitar.

Expect to tip them a dollar or however much you want but it's a pretty awesome thing to hear them play. I wouldn't turn it down.

You begin to realize that the locals are trying to make a living anyway they can. But if you tell them "No" they don't bug you. They just tell you "welcome to paradise and enjoy your vacation" Everyone is very very nice and the culture is AWESOME.

If you're on a budget this is a place to stay. I would compare it to our US version of Motel 6 but with no amenities.

The service and the employees make it better.

The hotel also offers a variety of Water Activities. Oreck is actually the main guy in charge of activites. I suggest that you do water activities through them. The outside tourist attractions will charge more than double.

Legends also has an on site Taxi driver. The 2 we met were very nice and very on time when we asked to be picked up in 3 hrs they were their on the dot.

Even the front entrance security was super nice. I can't get over how superb the service was. Just wish the food and room were a little better.
