“this is heaven!”

Idle Awhile Resort

I stayed at idle awhile for four days and wish I had stayed longer! Everything was wonderful! The staff were so sweet and helpful..many of the staff had been with idle awhile for five plus years, so you know they are loyal to the resort! Anything I asked for they did their best to provide it.. I travelled with two small children and my six month old's skin started to peel from the sweat and heat. I asked one of the hotel personell about what should I use to help my baby. She recommended a special powder and she went the pharmacy and got it for me! People from other resorts would come over and eat at chill awhile because it was the best on the beach! We loved the beach and the tropical foliage was beautiful! We will be back! next time without the kids!

This hotel was perfect. Family friendly, but we didn’t see any kids. Romantic without being obnoxious. Perfect for friends traveling together (which is what we were). We were a group of 7(all in our late 20s) in 2 rooms and could have easily and comfortably slept 3 more. The staff is so kind and accommodating and everything was wonderfully clean and easy.
We ate a few times away from the restaurant at the hotel, but we regretted leaving. all of our favorite meals where 10 steps from our room.

“Amazing and Stress-Free”

Idle Awhile Resort

I spent several days at Idle Awhile, with 6 friends. We are in our late 20's and we were a little concerned that we were going during spring break... However, the hotel makes certain that the hotel is not overrun by spring breakers.

Room - we had two of the suites. One was across the street, but they were both terrific. Very spacious, lots of room and sleeping space and extremely clean.

Beach - the beach was well kept with plenty of lounge chairs. The water was calm and perfect for floating. Since the hotel is so small, the beach was really peaceful and there really werent very many people. FYI...there is not a pool

Restaurant - DELICIOUS! We ate here for nearly every meal. We are from NY (so used to slightly higher prices), but the restaurant was really affordable. The curry and jerk sauces are divine!

Staff - Very friendly and helpful, yet relaxed and not in your face.

Location - about a ten minute cab ride to town. Very easy to walk along the beach and go to different restaurants and bars. Very good location. THERE WAS A TERRIFIC JERK CHICKEN STAND ACROSS THE STREET! REALLY CHEAP DON'T MISS IT!

Other - We went to Rick's, because we heard it was a good bar with cliff divers. I was not thrilled and would not recommend. It's just a tourist trap and the divers made me nervous....it was fun for 5 minutes, but not a must-do. Great views.

We went to the Rockhouse Hotel's restuarant for dinner. The views were unreal...so gorgeous and the food was good, a little pricey though.

Overall, Negril was great...very relaxing. If you are looking for a happening downtown scene, you are not going to find it. I got the impression that everything evolves around the beach and relaxing, not a huge going-out scene.

“A great Jmaican experience”

Idle Awhile Resort

Idle Awhile was such a pleasant surprise. It was spacious and immaculate. The interior design was pretty by any standard with a king platform bed and big terrace with ceiling fan. The room had A/C but it was not needed. I love this part of the beach as it sits in the center of the beach properties. The security was good and the room had a very secure safe. There were plenty of beach chairs and floats. The bar and restaurant are right there, so no worries. Right next door is the Charella if one wants a change of dining. I would definitely stay there again.

“Outstanding winter vacation”

Idle Awhile Resort

4 of 5 stars
Grand Haven, Michigan

4/5 found this review helpful

We found Idle Awhile to be perfect for our relaxing, romantic winter vacation. My husband and I returned last week and immediately booked another vacation for December 2008. For our upcoming trip we booked an ocean view deluxe room. This trip the only room available was the suite across the street and although it was only a short walk to the beach where we spent the entire days it was very busy and a bit noisy in the evenings. All in all, the suite was nice with the exception of some stains on the area rugs covering the hard wood floors. The bathroom doesn't have any electrical outlets in this particular suite and is the only room with a mirror so bring an extention cord if you need to plug anything in. Although we don’t normally watch any TV on vacation we had a TV in the living room and a flat screen TV in the bedroom. Housekeeping did a wonderful job everyday even leaving fresh flower arrangements on the bedspread. The front desk was very helpful when we needed anything in fact every employee went out of their way to ensure our comfort. The Idle Awhile employees’ personal touches and pride in their jobs were quite evident.
The beach is excellent, the water warm and very clean and clear. We take exception to another reviewer’s observation regarding the beach attendant. We found the beach attendants to be very helpful and Les, who seems to be a jack of all trades, is also a security guard. When we arrived we were asked where we would like our beach lounge chairs with umbrella placed and for the entire ten days and either Eric or Les made sure they were waiting for us along with our beach towels which was very appreciated. It was a far cry from the bigger all-inclusive, search for a lounger on the crowded beach scene to which we had been accustomed. Eric does a wonderful job with keeping the beach clean and taking care of the lush landscaping
Chill Awhile served us very good breakfasts, lunches and some dinners at reasonable prices but we also ventured out to try some of the recommended restaurants in Negril on the beach and the cliffs. And yes, Rockhouse and Kuyaba are that good! The drinks at Chill Awhile are also top notch.
One last thing, the employees at Idle Awhile are very hardworking, good people and tips will go a long way to show your appreciation for their jobs well done. We can hardly wait to return.
