“Wonderful place to stay”

Andalucia Guest House

5 of 5 stars
Herndon, VA
May 14, 2008

I booked the Andalucia based on other TripAdvisor reviews. I was very pleased to see that those reviews were right on.

The reservation process was very straightforward, accomplished by a series of emails. Emeo, one of the two guys who run/own this guest house, sent information on how to get there with instructions for the taxi driver to find the place.

When we arrived straight from our cruise ship around 10am, our room wasn't ready yet, but we expected that. Emeo went through the check-in formalities, provided a map of the area as well as map of Old San Juan, gave us the key to our room for when we return and off we were. When we came back in the evening, our bags were already taken to our room for us.

The next day we went to the beach and Andalucia has beach chairs, mats, umbrellas as well as towels available to take to the beach, which is about 2-3 blocks away. They even have books and games available.

They were very flexible with our check out as well. It was a very pleasant experience, more as a guest at someone's home (albeit you had to pay for it) than staying at a hotel.

We would definitely stay there again.

This was a wonderful stay even though only for 1 night, it could easily be a week in the future. The room was immaculate, with comfy beds, hot shower, close to the airport, old san juan, resturants and the beach within walking distance. The owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome, we were greeted by name, shown our room, offered coolers, chairs and big beach towels for use at the beach, given a map of the area with personalized comments that really help, when traveling. Internet available, hot tub available and even let us print boarding passes, what more could you ask for? Loved it would stay again if in the area and already recommended it to other travelers who were looking for a nice place to stay. Thanks guys for the hospitality!!

“Great family reunion!”

Andalucia Guest House

May 8, 2008

We held a big family reunion at this guest house (15 people from all over the world) and it turned out perfeclty. Our hosts Emeo and Esteban were friendly and helpful, the rooms were just what we needed, the neighborhood was quiet, we were five minutes' walk from a lovely beach, we were in easy reach of old San Juan, and the price was very reasonable.

I spent a lot of time looking for a guest house in San Juan, and this one seemed to me to fit our needs. We were not disappointed.

Of course there were things that could have been improved upon. A clothes cabinet's handle came off, the air conditioning was a bit noisy in our room. But on the whole all of us enjoyed our stay immensely. It helps to have a super tropic climate, lush vegetation all around, the surf of the sea to enjoy, old San Juan to savor, the mountainous counrtryside to explore, and good weather the whole time.

All in all a memorable experience, which this guest house made possible. Thanks, Emeo and Estaban, for the experience!

“Pretty good”

Andalucia Guest House

3 of 5 stars
Boise, Idaho
May 1, 2008

We stayed three nights at the Andalucia last week. It was a nice stay. The rooms are clean but pretty minimal. Soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower. Coffee pot but no coffee or tea. We felt a bit like we were in a cave since our room had no outside windows. Our bathroom window opened to the pool area in the courtyard, which was noisy. But the owners were great - very friendly and helpful. The neighborhood wasn't the best. There were a few good places to eat, especialy Kasalta bakery just down the street. It wasn't a bad place to be. Depends on what you are looking for. For shopping, restaurant selection, and just walking around, Old San Juan is definitely better.

“Perfect for our needs”

My husband and I have been traveling all over the country, staying only at small B&B's, so the atmosphere at Andalucia Guest House was extremely familiar to us-- intimate, comfy, "just right" in size, rustic, with attentive hosts/innkeepers.
Even though the bulk of our time there coincided with the owners being on vacation themselves, their substitute innkeepers Gloria & Javier, were just GREAT!

I totally agree with other reviews here (and even on Andalucia's site, they state this) in that if you are looking for a big hotel type atmosphere with all those typical froo-froo qualities, this place is NOT for you. If you are looking for a clean place to stay with basic amenities, personalized/friendly attention and seriously the BEST DEAL in San Juan, look no further!
