“The good, bad and ugly.”

First the good: VALUE! If you have a family, this is a great place for saving money. There is enough room for 4 people and the kitchenette can help you save on meals. Complete breakfasts are included and the pastries are superb. Free drinks at happy hour can also save you $$$. GET A VIEW! Definitely get a suite with a ‘special view’ and ask to be put on the upper 3 floors. The hotel might be run down (read on) but the view from these rooms more than makes up for it. SERVICE: The entire staff was professional, friendly and polite.

The BAD: The GARBAGE. Granted; the larger items are picked up daily but the smaller ones are not. Cigarette butts and small litter strewn the outer lawns and I actually saw a used condom in the roughage. The BEACH is gravelly, unattractive and there are scant palm trees for shade. The sea basin which you are supposed to swim in is awful.

The UGLY: This hotel looks like it is 40 years old with few improvements since it's construction. EVERYTHING is run down and desperately needs a good power washing. Your kids may not notice (or care) that the pool area looks like hurricane Andrew hit it, but you probably will. Folks: this is the BOB EVANS of hotels. If it is just the two of you….and you want a little better experience, move on.

“Great for a family vacation”

The resort is great for a family with small children. The pool area is just right. The hotel staff is excellent and always very helpfull. The beach area is very small and leaves a lot to be desired. It needed to be dredged of the sea weed and rock and replaced with sand. If you are looking for a sandy beach, go off prem.
The golf gourse can be challenging but expensive.
The hotel resturant is good but the menue is limited. Breakfest was good.
If you have never had Italian food, maybe try the Italian resturant, but if you have eaten Italian food, don't eat here.
You need to rent a car. PeeWee's and Alberto's resturants are places to consider. Above all, do not drive into San Juan! Drive to Cantano and take the ferry. Get a road map, not the tourist map and plan your car trips befor hitting the road. Driving is agressive. There is nothing within walking distance but trips to Aricibo, San Juan via ferry, Bacardi distillery are worth it.

“Great Place”

Just returned from the Embassy Suites. We usually stay in places that are either a time share or small hotel. Embassy Suites is a fairly large establishment yet you never felt that way. There are two areas for elevators at either side of the hotel, so they were never really crowded. The grounds are nice and very clean. The staff were very friendly. Our room was not ready until 4:00 which was a little disappointing since we were only there for 4 days. We traveled with 2 teenagers and let them have the room with the double beds and we stayed on the pull out couch. That was not very comfortable, the mattress was not in good shape, so the next night my 13 year old volunteered to sleep on the sofa bed. It was fine for him. The breakfast that was included was very good. We went early(by 8:30) and never had a problem finding a seat or not finding what we wanted to eat. At night , the manager's reception was good. My husband and I had drinks and that avoided us from having cocktails at dinner. The beach is VERY small but we were out most days sightseeing, so this was not an issue. The area of the hotel is somewhat secluded but we did find a mexican place for lunch, had dinner at PeeWees and also had dinner at Lorillos. All other meals were out of the area while sightseeing. We would stay here again with no problem.

“Great for Golf & Relaxing”

Embassy Suites Dorado Del Mar Beach & Golf Resort

We are a family of three (including my grandauther). The hotel is very relaxing. Has exotic plants and a cool atmosphere. There are several golf courses around the area. It's great for young kids, specially the pool. Dinning was not so great in the hotel but we were recommended to go to PeeWee's for real good food and they were right. It's nearby the hotel and PeeWee is a great guy and he is always passing thru the tables making sure everyone is OK. We went 3 times because of the service. Another restaurant we liked was Zen Garden in the Hyatt hotel. Good oriental food.
The golf courses at the Hyatt were better than the one at the Embassy Suite.
It's a very quite hotel perfect for relaxation and that was what we were looking for. If I get the chance I will be back to the Dorado area.
We went to Old San Juan and it was lovely. Brick roads, old buildings built by the Spanish 500 years ago. It's like you see it in the movies. Puerto Rico is very nice and the people are very friendly. I would recommend the island to anyone specially Dorado ( teenagers might not agree with me because the is not much night life in Dorado).

“Low key Family Resort”

Embassy Suites Dorado Del Mar Beach & Golf Resort

We are a family of four, our kids are nine and eleven years old. We were thrilled with our room. It was on the seventh floor, end unit, great views of the mountains and ocean. Very quiet and spacious. The employees of the hotel were extremely gracious, accomodating, and friendly. Much nicer than other Islands. The grounds are well maintained. Yes, the pool and beach area are small but perfect for parents who need to keep an eye on their children. The ocean water is clean, clear and calm much nicer than in San Juan. My son kept busy with volleyball, dodgeball, bingo and soaking in the not so hot hottub. My daughter enjoyed swimming in the beautiful ocean and also soaking in the hottub. We are so busy in our everyday lives that the lack of constant structured activity is not a problem for us. We are happy to just feel the sun on our faces, sand between our toes, cool drink in our hands. My husband felt the buffet breakfast was below average. I was content with my egg beater omelet cooked to order every morning. We enjoyed the manager's reception, I recommend the Cuervo Margaritas with an extra shot on the side. The kids enjoyed the snacks and Shirley Temples. We are in agreement that the restaurants in Dorado are not very good. The only exception is PeeWees. A casual restaurant, with delicious chicken, ribs and fish. The owner, PeeWee, makes every guest feel welcome. He even ordered a cake for my father in law's 75th birthday.
The only other place worth mentioning was Mangere. Expensive, slow but nice service. We often drove the mile into town to get carry out for lunch. Plenty of fast food places, a great grocery store and even a super nice Walgreens. We dined in San Juan a couple of nights, STAY AWAY FROM TANGERINE AT THE WATER CLUB!!! Laughable portion sizes, no view of the ocean as stated in "Fodor's" guide, really over priced and over cooked fish. This is a nice, low key family vacation. Not the right choice for couples seeking a "Sandals" experience or probably not great for families with older children needing more activities.
