“A jewel of a property”

Hotel L'Esplanade

L'Esplanade is a jewel of a property. I am a travel agent and we have visited more than 50 countries, and this was one of our top 5 vacations in the world. The hotel is perched on a mountain with spectacular views of Grand Case Bay. Below the hotel is Restaurant Row, renowned to be the best collection of restaurants in the Caribbean. 10 minutes away is Orientale Beach, one of the best beaches anywhere, with talcum powder sand. Our meal at Le Pressoir was one of the finest I've ever had. Le Tastevin was wonderful as well. If you go around 7:00 you don't need reservations and you can get a table by the railing, which is about 20' from the surf. We had lunch and dinner at the little BBQ joints on The Row. We did a day ferry tour to Anguilla - which has an even better beach BUT NOTHING ELSE TO DO! Another day ferry trip to St. Barths found the worst roads we've had in a LONG time. The concrete is so bad it's down to the rebar in some places. But I digress. The hotel is great. The views, the large room, the cleanliness and it's convenient location really made our trip for us. DO NOT try to find this hotel the first night in the dark! You will not win! We rented a car through the hotel (cheaper than doing it from the States). The rental guy picked us up at 11:00pm and took us to the hotel, where our car waited. We used the car for 4 days. He picked us up at 6:30am and took us to the airport. Although we used it for 4 days, we were charged for 5 - but I would never try to find the hotel alone and would do it again in a heartbeat. Driving around St. Martin is easy, it is all two lane roads. Rent the smallest car they offer.

My husband and I honeymooned for part of our week at L'Esplanade. From beginning to end, our experience was personalized, unique, and very relaxing. I can not say enough about the staff. They were always available for any question or need. Upon arrival, they had placed a chilled champagne bottle and fresh flowers in our suite. We were in room 21 which was a one bedroom suite (all one level.) It was clean, smelled great, and led to a huge balcony with an extrordinary view! I was very impressed by the furnishings and unique touches in the room....an umbrella, a fresh baguette, lotions, robes, books, etc. One of the best features was a menu book in the lobby area that was available to hunt for restaurant menus all over the island.
The pool was certainly a plus with a great view of Grand Case Beach and a friendly staff at the swim up bar. It was truly picture perfect!
Of course, being located in Grand Case makes finding a restaurant very easy. We walked every night to dinner. We ate at Le Pressoir the first night - pricey, very French, but fabulous lobster and bisque. The service is very clean cut and prfessional. The next night, we tried Blue Martini - great pizza for me and my husband had a seafood casserole that he loved. This place has a lovely garden bar as well for after dinner drinks. Service here was efficient but more casual than Le Pressoir -definate repeat! Out last night we ate at Spiga -both meals were great but ask to sit on the porch because the inside is hot. Great food and reasonable price (for St. Martin.)
A couple tips: go down the road to Calmos Cafe to spend a great day at the beach with ample drinks and food as well as beach chairs. St. Martin is expensive so try going to a patisserie for breakfast foods to put in your kitchen or try some great cafes in Marigot. Finally, use that umbrella they provide because at night it rains suddenly!
Overall, the hotel itself is worth going back to St. Martin. It is such a pleasure to find a staff that is not only efficient but aslo friendly and approachable. Memorable honeymoon!

We stayed at L'Esplanade to have a quick getaway without the kids in Mid-April, 2008. Because the hotel was holding a wedding, they had only one room available, a one bedroom suite, the most expensive room, but still fairly priced. The room was immaculate and had beautiful furniture and a killer huge bathroom. The appliances were nicer than home! The patio was beautiful with a nice view of the Grand Case airport and the water, even Anguilla. The hotel arranged a car for us, which included free airport transfers, normally $60.00 US roundtrip. This made the rental car net price very cheap. Also, we loved the basket of snacks and coffee the hotel supplied free upon check in.

You can walk to Grand Case for meals in under 5 minutes. It's not the nicest beach on the island, but very convenient. We enjoyed Baie Rouge as a quiet, more scenic beach.

For meals, we ate a California twice, which is one of the few Grand Case restaurants that treats Euros and Dollars equally. We also loved the Lo-Lo's, which serve traditional local barbeque. We also loved the food at the zip line place up the tallest mountain on the island.

This is a no miss hotel that provides one of the few great places to stay on the french side.

“Wonderful peaceful stay”

My wife and I just returned and loved it. We had a loft room w/ kitchen, wonderful balcony overlooking Grand Case and the ocean. It really is a treat. The service, from Alain at the pool bar, to the maid service was excellent. We felt bad for all the sand we washed off after a rough outing at Bay Rouge, yet the service removed every grain that could be found in our room.

The staff help make reservations and great local suggestions, they all understand the value in providing wonderful service. The walkway/path to GC was not dangerous at all, and it was very nice to encounter foot patrol each night of our stay. The dining in GC is tremendous, there really is no reason to dine elsewhere, but for Marigot, maybe. We loved Le Pressoir, it is world class. Le Cottage was a close second, as Bruno and his staff have created a wonderful atmosphere. We thank L'Esplanade for their advice, their kindness, and most of all for their property up on the hill, above the rest, I think that's their slogan.
