My boyfriend and I went to the Southern Cross Club to enjoy a week of R&R (regulators and rum drinks)! Our expectations were MORE than met. This was our first visit to the resort and it exceeded our expectations.

The day we arrived there was an Oscar Party complete with fancy dress, "Golden Conch" awards and an amazing on the beach dinner with the awards broadcast on a large screen outside! What a way to start. Just wish I'd brought something more than shorts, a t-shirt and sandals for the occasion... Actually the sandals were "overkill..." This is truely barefoot relaxation.

My boyfriend is an experienced diver but I hadn't tested out my diving skills in over 10 years. The first day out, my stomach was queasy and it WASN'T because of the sea conditions or repercussions from breakfast (ALL the meals were delicious). The dive team was top notch and my fears disappeared after the first dive. This is one of the best aspects of the SCC - a small guest to dive staff ratio means everyone gets the attention they need. The dive sites were beautiful - the walls of coral, fish etc... fantastic. The divemasters took us to great sites and were attentive - showing us lots of things we might have missed had they not pointed them out. After two dives each morning, it was back ot the resort for lunch, book and nap in the hammock and then cocktails at the bar followed by dinner. Another drink at the bar, a roadie for the beach and then to bed. Rinse. Repeat.

We had a great room at the end of the resort. Nice king size bed, refigerator, outdoor shower - after diving are a real treat! Coffee maker in the room also ensured you didn't have to go far for a cup of coffee in the morning.

The small guest/staff ratio makes service a hallmark of this resort. The staff could not have been more accomodating, friendly and professional. From the pickup at the airport to service in all parts of the club, we were treated like family (the ones you look FORWARD to seeing...). Ejoyed great massages as well from Terry who doubles as the local massage therapist and barkeep and performs a valuable service in both functions.

What you should know before you book:
1) This is a SMALL island with VERY little to do outside of the few resorts. If you're looking for places to go and beachwalkers to watch, this is NOT the place.
2 The resort is also more geared to adults rather than families with children - especially those who need constant entertainment. To us this was a major plus!
3) The swimming/snorkeling near the resort is limited. You can't swim right off of the beach - due to the reef, the water by the resort is more like a lagoon so there is a lot of sea grass and it's relatively shallow. A quick kayak over to Owen Island gives a swimming option, but it's a bit limited for swimmers
4) Although the bar bill wasn't fatal, drinks are not included in the all inclusive price and can add up quickly. If you're partial to an evening nip of your favorite adult beverage before bed you might want to bring a bottle from duty free for your room!

If you want a vacation where you truly "disconnect" - we didn't use watches, phones or e-mail for a week and didn't miss it - this is the place.

“Another Great Stay At Southern Cross Club!!!”

Southern Cross Club

We just returned from another stay (one of several) at the Southern Cross Club on Little Cayman, Cayman Islands, BWI and their reputation for understated elegance remains intact. My husband and I started going there several years ago for the peace and quiet found only on Little Cayman. From the moment you exit the plane at the airport/firestation/post office and are met by Peter, the owner of SCC, Chris or Cate the managers or another of the friendly staff, you have just become the most important guest they have. Shoes come off and stay off until it's time to return to the real world, bicycles are available should you want to tour the island and kyacks are waiting on the beach for someone to jump into for a trip to Owen Island for some snorkeling or picnic.

For scuba divers it's world class diving at Bloody Bay Wall, Jackson Bight, Mixing Bowl or any number of other equally great dive sites. The Divemasters/instructors are amoung the best in the world. Whether you like deep wall dives, reef dives or any combination there is something for every skill level and preference. Should you arrive at SCC uncertified, try a Discover Scuba course in their pool or take a Resort Course or full certification course from one of their great instructors.

We have been to SCC several times and, like most places, people come and go, but hopefully, the same great staff will stay for many years to come. Chris, Mark, Mike and Ryan cater to your every diving wish. Cate, Jen, Terry, Renita, Ron and many others working behind the scens make the operation appear seemless...a smile on every face and 100% effort on every detail large or small.

My husband and I return to SCC each year, meeting up with a group of our friends from across the US. There is something about Little Cayman and Souther Cross Club that keeps us coming back year after year and that's the personal friendships we have made there, the excellent service, world class food, world class diving and of course the Southern Cross itself which you can see if you get up in the middle of the night and venture outside your room for a peek at the stars.

Much more could be written about SCC but my advice is to give it a try....if you're like us you won't ever want to leave.

“Wonderful Southern Cross Club”

My husband and I had a wonderful visit at the Southern Cross Club on Little Cayman. This was not our first visit, and we were again impressed with the ambiance of this small intimate resort. The staff is courteous and willing to accommodate each individual request. The meals were unbelievable. At lunch each day, a staff member offers the dinner menu so you make your choices for the evening.

We had a romantic cocktail sunset cruise in the turquoise lagoon on Valentine's Day, followed by an elegant dinner at tables on the pristine beach lit by candlelight.

Dinner on the dock was another memorable event with music, bar, and a wonderful buffet. Folks from around the Island came for the festivities.

The diving is spectacular on both sides of the Island, but the 3 fathom wall on the North Side is incredible. Visibility is endless and the sea life abundant. The brand new dive boat takes a small group of guests with 3 divemasters on board. Very comfortable and gorgeous diving.

Having visited Little Cayman over the years we are familiar with the other accommodations on the island. There is no other resort that compares to the Club's location, accommodations, staff and service. It's what keeps us coming back.

Just the best! My daughter was certified to dive here. It was a fabulous experience for all of us. Kayaking was fun. Bird watching was fabulous. We biked across the island to go snorkeling. The staff was really, really great. I can not think of one way to improve it.

“Southern Cross is Paradise”

Southern Cross Club

This Hotel is Paradise. We stayed for 4 days and wished we could stay longer. There are 12 units, 24 guests and 25 staff to keep you happy. The woman next door to us was a crisis minister. This was her 14th visit to the club. There are no keys to the rooms. It's like being in a large family. No one wears shoes. Dress code is more formal than a bathing suit at dinner. I spent a lot of time in a hammock. You can go for hours without seeing anyone but a Great Blue Heron. The food is excellent. The staff is wonderful. The other guests are lovely. We will go back every year. This place is perfect for privacy. It made Grand Cayman seem like Miami Beach. Debra and Seth Chwast.
