We originally were going to stay at the Marriott for 5 nights because we received points as a wedding gift. We ended up staying one night in a one-bedroom suite and checking out the next morning. The suite was large but garishly decorated and looked out onto some construction and other buildings. The hotel is large, few of the rooms have any views, and everything is loud and impersonal. We could have been anywhere- there was nothing special about this place. Some of the staff was a bit rude and we just decided it would be worth the extra money to move. We moved to Ottley's and LOVED it.

To give background on myself, I am in my early early 20's, from NYC and this was supposed to be a quiet get away with my boyfriend. We were not looking for a party scene. And since we are relatively fresh out of school, this seemed like a very cheap vacation. we have never written a review before, but I wish I read something like this before I booked my trip.

The hotel itself is well maintained. The lobby area, casino, room, was typical of a Marriott. We stayed in a room off the main hotel, which was great - we were closer to the beach and pool! The only thing about it was that the rooms are not very sound proof, bring some ear plugs. The staff was lukewarm at best. The other guests at this hotel were not my crowd and obnoxious . The island may not be as clean as what some people are used to – its not very developed. I saw a cockroach the size of a lipstick (not including the 2 inch antenna things) on the ledge against where my boyfriends hand was resting as we were eating dinner. I do not think this is a 4 star hotel. 3.5 at best. Someone stole my boyfriends credit card the first night...and charged 1400 at the marriott by the next day. (thanks) i have been on vacation many times and i always forget my card at a bar in nyc and never once have i had fraudulent charges. i dont k now if it was staff or other guests....but i was charged $32 for a 7 minute call to a 1800 number to cancel the card. thanks again, since the rate was supposed to be .50 a min. when i am on vacation, i do not want to worry about leaving or having my belongings stolen. that is not relaxing.

Another critique of the Marriott was the pool It was disgusting and not to par for what I expect from a Marriott. There was always an oily film on top of the water and cups and straws floating around. Lots of little kids swimming around too, so it was loud. The bottom of the pool needs to be resurface. The tiles need to be DEEP CLEANED. The pool looked dated and not maintained well at all. Very disappointing.

That being said, I spent all my time at the beach. Vendors harass you, but if you say no, they don’t come back for the rest of the day. The beach was nice. I do not know why people complain. The beach at the Marriott is a lot nicer than the Caribbean side by timothy beach. We never had to fight for a cabana and the water was clear and warm. Lots of fish swimming around the rock barrier.

The food prices were fair on the resort, And ridiculously cheap if you go out. I do not know why people complain about prices. $4 a beer is CHEAP for a hotel. If you go to any other bar/restaurant in the town, its like less than $2US per beer. It was cheaper than a bottle of water. Our only food regret was when we ate at the monkey bar on the other beach. I think I ate half a bite of the burger and decided it was rat meat.

There is very little nightlife except on Fridays and Saturdays. The beach bars on the Caribbean side fill with students at night. I am convinced we were the youngest couple on vacation. There were a lot of older couples and families.

I’m not a golfer, I have never golfed until st. kitts. The course was beautiful with amazing views. You will want to golf after seeing it. go to cockelshell beach, i actually do not completly regret my trip because we visited this beach. absolultly beautiful. and there was no one there the entire day. the people on the island are ok, some are a little to agressive with trying to give you foot massages. they try put aloe on you even after you have said no 20 times.

All in all, I would not recommend this to my friends unless they want a cheap vacation, go with a big group and want to drink a lot ( so like a mini spring break from college). I would not recommended this to my parents – EVER, its too undeveloped and the hotel is too crude for them. If I go back, I will go to the four seasons on nevis. i understand my expectations may be higher than others, but I just want others like me to be forewarned.

“We Loved This Resort!”

Marriott St. Kitts Royal Beach Resort & Casino

We are Vacation Club members so we've visited lots of other Marriott Resorts. Marriott St. Kitts is wonderful! We stayed in the Villas and they are beautiful! We had plenty of space and it was very comfortable!
There are several restaurants on site and we ate at all but the steakhouse. Every meal we had on site was excellent! Staff was so helpful and enjoyable at every venue.
Ladies, don't miss out on water aerobics with "Don the Magic Wand!!" And definitely spend some time hanging by the pool with "Ice (Cause He's Nice)!" These guys were so awesome!! They kept us entertained with music, games, and fun!
Pools are beautiful! One is where all the action is but you can also venture off to the quiet pools near the villas.
We were there during off season (May) so we never had a crowd anywhere. We made dinner reservations but we really didn't need them.
Drinks in the lobby bar before dinner every night is a must!
The spa was lovely! We had massages and pedicures. Prices are good and the massage honestly was the best I've had! They also let you just sit in the sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, and ice dip for hours to just relax in peace.
St. Kitts has great taxi service! All of our drivers were knowledgable and excited about their island. We did an island tour one day and visited the plantations where we had lunch. If you are able to look for a driver named Dennis he will take care of you for your entire vacation!
Overall, the Marriott St. Kitts is a wonderful vaction spot. It's a great place for all ages and is a place where you would never have to leave the resort if you choose!

“Marriott was top notch”

Marriott St. Kitts Royal Beach Resort & Casino

This place is amazing! The rooms were very clean, the beach was fantasic, and the service is excellent. I agree with the comment from another reviewer...they are on island time...which means they will get there a bit later than you expect. SLOW DOWN and enjoy. Remember it is about the experience. The snorkling off the beach was great..saw a stingray, and many fish and crabs. Staff is very helpful. Rent your snorkle gear on the beach...less money and for all day.
We stayed in a ocean view suite, and the view was excellent. Restaurants are a bit pricey, but average for a resort. Get off the resort and go eat at the local restaurants at night. Better food and better prices.
Loved St. Kitts...will be going back soon!

“Not up to Resort Standards I've seen”

Marriott St. Kitts Royal Beach Resort & Casino

Jun 17, 2008

I had been to a Beaches resort a year before my St. Kitt's visit and I think that may have skewed my views a little. This resort just did not live up to my expectations! There was little to know entertainment on site, they just blasted a stereo at the poolside with regular American music all day, and I think they played bingo once. The beach isn't that great, it's blue but lots of seaweed on the beach and in the water. There was tons of hair in the bathroom and all over the floor, it was pretty gross. The smaller pool by our room didn't have a working pump. It looked like they had a portable one hooked up because there was a huge blue tube in the pool and a little machine running, but was water was green and there was a oily looking slime on top. Needless to say, we did not get in that pool. The hot tub right beside it was clear and working, but the water was freezing! The food and drinks at the hotel were ok, but way more expensive than the restaurants off the resort, I highly recommend leaving the resort for dinner! The people there were not as friendly as the other Islands I have visited, but there was a very safe feel about it. All in all if I were to ever visit St. Kitt's again, I think I'd stay somewhere else.
