“quite unique”

Pavilions and Pools Villa Hotel

We really enjoyed our stay at Pavilions and Pools. It is a very unusual setup which provides comfort, privacy and fun. The pavilion was the perfect size and the furnishings, although quite simple, fit the feel of the place very well. The pool seemed clean and was beautifully lit at night. The private bathroom with open air shower was fun as well. We did notice some wear and tear in places but nothing that was not easily overshadowed by the overall ambiance. There were even fresh flowers in the room which was a nice touch. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they provided free snorkel equipment and Sapphire Beach near by has a beautiful reef. Breakfast was a bit sparse but basics like coffee, juice, cereal, muffins and fruit were provided. I would recommend a stay here for a unique and fun experience.

My husband booked this trip after seeing a write up in Travel and Leisure Magazine December2005 issue. We stayed in the larger International. Guest should know to ask for a pool with steps, we had a ladder that made it difficult to get in and out of the pool. Mack, Roma and George are awesome, they make you feel like you are at "Cheers". They will stock your room with food for a small fee if you ask before you arrive, great service. The bed was very comfortable.

Stayed two days at Pavilions and Pools. We stayed in an international suite which is the larger one. It was just so great to have your own pool, and bbq and separate bedroom and living room. We bought some great steaks one night and fresh vegetables and bbq'd and ate by the pool because sometimes you get sick of going out (plus it's pricey). The deal here is that people own these units so they are all decorated differently. Ours was so cute. Bright orange bedroom with a big ceramic sun on the wall. Sliding door in the bedroom opened up to the pool. Problem is that the pool isn't heated. We thought it would be warm from the sun but it really was cooler than I would have liked it. Staff is nice and continental breakfast is adequate. Thomas English Muffins, fresh fruit, cookies, etc with juice and coffee that you can help yourself to. It's a 6-7 minute walk over to Saphire Beach which is lovely. Also, P&P gave us free snorkel equipment and beach towels so we were able to casually just snorkel around which was fun. If you are looking for the big beach resort with amenities, this isn't it. However, if you like roomy places with a home feel, super casual, this would be the place for you. Also, after we left P&P, we went to a big beach resort and although we got to reserve beach chairs and umbrellas and waiters bringing Margarita's, the big beach resorts also have the big beach resort price tag.

We stayed in Pavilions and Pools this last trip. Pavilions and Pools was great for us. They are under new management. And this new guy knows what he's doing. BUT, it depends on which room. It can be fabulous...each place is individually owned, but put into a rental pool, so can vary in decor. The first villa we had, didn't suit us.

There are two layouts; I prefer the smaller where you enter into the garden/pool area. The larger enter into the villa; the pool is at the back. Each villa has its own pool and complete privacy, so you can go au naturelle. The room is cleaned everyother day.

For the most part, Pavilions and Pools is a couples place. We ran into NO other children except ours. Yet the set up is perfect for a family vacation. With full kitchenettes, this was an easier way to eat than run out to restaurants each evening -- which gets extremely expensive. Figure you should double what you'd pay in NorthEast US. We did grocery shopping for sandwiches, salads and our kids' staple: mac and cheese. Surprisingly, even fruit is expensive.

Also bought a case of beer the first day, and mixers, since the room came with a bottle of rum. We still managed to spend $1000 on food and drinks (including restaurants). We held a barbecue for 11 adults in our villa, and had a blast!! Hey, if you can't find a party, make your own.

The manager's wife babysat for us on our romantic evenings out. As for beach, this place is at the top of a hill. Sapphire Beach is a long walk down. But with a private pool, who cares?

    • Liked — private pool with view of St John
    • Disliked — missed a cleaning with kids in a warm place - which means bugs - but was easily overcome.
    • Tips/Secrets: — Plan meals and snacks and bring list of ingredients and as many ingredients as you can haul. Freeze meat in marinade and bring with you. Bring pasta, condiments and staple foods and 1/2 the necessary clothing and one VERY comfy pair sandals.

This place is a gem. The location is very convenient for easy access for day trips and/or dinner at St. John. We stayed in one of the deluxe international units and loved it. The bed was very comfortable and the pool was great. Every morning, as the sun woke us up, we went for the dip in the pool and spent most of the morning in the pool. Then hit the beaches in St. Thomas or St. John in the afternoon. The food is great too (thanks to chef Cajun Karl and his wife Kathryn).

If you are looking for romance, privacy, convenience, and total relaxation at a very reasonable price, this is the place.
