“A perfect spot!”

Compass Point Beach Resort

We got married in Cape Canaveral, Florida and had just a limited amount of time (5 nights) for a honeymoon. We wanted to spend our time together somewhere relaxing and fun, not travelling. So the "Family Islands" were out, but we found the perfect spot at Compass Point.

If you want a high rise, casino, gated, take an elevator to everything and anything but authentic ordeal go to Paradise Island. I have done that (reluctantly.) But if what you seek is peace and beauty, away from it all, private beach and emerald sea, with beautiful grounds, restful and unique accomodations, friendly efficient staff from bartenders, to waiters, housekeepers, grounds keepers, and management then go to this wonderful hideaway. In short, we loved it!

We rented a open top Jeep (drive on the left) which added to the fun; we were free to wander to our hearts' content. I had read some questions about taxis, buses, etc and I am glad we decided to rent a car. The location is perfect, but there really is no place to walk to, other than down the beach, so in my opinion you need a car. We found so much to explore on New Providence and to be able to call Compass Point home for a few days was perfect. When we were asked by locals where we were staying and we told them Compass Point, we always got knowing smiles and nods.

The bar and restaurant were as good as the rest of the place too. And yes, most of the customers there were locals.

The only downside to Compass Point Resort is having to leave. We just can't say enough good things about this experience.

“Awesome experience”

Staying here was truly a great experience. Everything from the cabins to the facilities to the food was wonderful. It was so nice to wake up every morning and look right outside at the ocean. I was able to snorkel right in front of the resort as well as walk the beach, swim, or relax in the pool or hot tub. The service was great as well and the food was better than any other place I had gone on the island. I would recommend Compass Point to anyone traveling to Nassau.

“Compass Point was just what we wanted!”

Compass Point Beach Resort

4 of 5 stars
California

We wanted a calm, low key atmosphere with character and a bit of pampering . Compass Point fit that bill to a tee! We enjoyed our stay very much. Loved our seafront hut and waking up every morning with my coffee and water below me! The grounds are beautiful, very well kept and rooms are so fresh and clean. The restaurant was one of the best we tried. Overall we were disappointed with the food options in the Bahamas. The food at Compass Point was always good. Sometimes very slow, but it was good. I kept trying to order a specific breakfast on the menu but was told at least three times they had "no bananas today" so I never actually got to try it! The final time the waitress said she would bring bananas herself so I could have the breakfast! We did find the employees to be very helpful and they did go above and beyond to help us!

I would recommend renting a car. The traffic really wasn't all that bad. Finding a parking spot in town was rough. But the buses just aren't consistant enough as far out as Compass Point is. We used the buses for the first 6 days and then rented a car the last two and we wished we had done so from the beginning. It was easy to get around and we had fun exploring around the island.

We really liked Love Beach, walked it every morning. It's beautiful. Going to Potter's Cay for Conch Fritters and Conch salad was one of the highlights of the trip! Also enjoyed excellent meals at Poop Deck and Fish Fry. One night we BBQ'd our own steaks and bought a salad from the C.P. restaurant! That was a great meal too!

Really enoyed our stay at Compass Point. We weren't that thrilled with the Bahamas, but I might have to go back just so I can go to Compass Point!! I might have already said this but we just LOVED our sea front hut!

“Favorite Getaway”

Compass Point Beach Resort

Jul 14, 2008

I usually loath to reveal any of my special vacation spots for fear more people will discover it and the very reason we escaped to the location is lost. However, Compass Point continues to be a gem that sparkles in the Bahamian Island Chain. I have stayed at numerous locations throughout the Bahamas, most recently on Long Island. However, the logistics of getting around the Bahamas to secluded destinations can be intimidating.

I love Compass Point for a number of reasons. Beginning with the cottages, there are few locations where you can sit on the "porch" as us southern folks like to call it and look DOWN into the water. You have a 180 degree panorama of the ocean, and all that goes with it. If you turn around, you have another 180 degree view of the most colorful and quaint looking cottages in the Caribean. To the west is the main alignment for the airport and a constant stream of aircraft are lining up on final approach. If you like watching flight patterns, as I do, this is an added bonus. Fortunately the resort is far enough off the flightline that it is not a noise problem.

The rooms are octagonal with an elevated king size bed in the middle. There is a lot of room to store luggage and clothes and our cottage is amply equipped with a coffemaker (for us early birds), a microwave, refrigerator, and a desk with a comfortable chair. There is a DVD player and large screen TV, with a surround sound system. The A/C works diligently with a low hum, somehow keeping up with the open jalousy windows. I get some of my best sleep in this resort, accentuated by the lapping of the waves on the rocks below, seemingly under the building.

The Resort has a nice little dock surrounded by rocks and a sandy beach. A collection of small tropical fish underneath the dock await guests, creating a perfect spot for the novice snorkeler. For the more ambitious, there is a gorgeous patch reef further offshore in about 20' of water, depending on tide. We have always been entertained by the resident Lion Fish, an assortment of small lobsters, and tropicals. My wife gets a little panicky when Mr. Barracuda swims up to check us out, and tends to cling to me like a remora, but I love it. You are actually in greater danger of getting run over by a boat if you don't listen for the propeller whine and pay attention. However, there is very little boat traffic close to shore because it is relatively shallow. By the way, for the most romantic of events, ask to have dinner served on the dock as the sun goes down.

Food in the resort is constently good. There is a variety to choose from on the menu and prices were consistently Bahamian. If you want to save a dollar or two, the resort equips the downstairs of their elevated cottages with another small refrigerator, a toaster, grill, and an assortment of dishes in case you want to cook. We usually don't but do enjoy a breakfast or two while looking out over the ocean.

The staff is always friendly and Skip and Linda, the managers, seem always to bend over backwards to accomodate their guests. Sitting at the bar you will always run into a mix of guests, tourists, and locals. The restaurant appears to be a favorite lunch spot for consumating local real estate deals and weekends usually bring about at least one wedding reception.

This was our third time back in a year. We will continue to come back because of the ease of getting from the airport to the resort. It is off the beaten path and frenzied pace of downtown Nassau. If you want to go shopping, a taxi or bus ride downtown can fit the bill. But if you want a peaceful, quiet place to enjoy the beach and vodka clear (since everyone uses gin) waters Compass Point remains our favorite.

I stayed there for 4 nights and it was the most relaxing place I've ever been to. The staff and owners were nice and accommodating.
We stayed in a Sea Front hut and the view was incredible. The food was yummy and walking along Love Beach was a beautiful experience. Sitting on the dock and watching all the amazing fish was something I will not forget.

If you stay at Compass Point and plan to venture outside the resort, I would recommend renting a car. We had a blast driving all around the island checking out the scenery.

I would totally return for another trip.
