“We LOVED Tiamo!”

Tiamo

5 of 5 stars
Ft. Lauderdale
Jul 3, 2008

We stayed at Tiamo for 4 nights and 5 days this past April, and I say with all honesty that we did not want to leave at the end of our week! I first heard about the resort in Islands magazine and checked out their website as a result. Everything I read, and all the pictures I saw, confirmed that this was a place I wanted to visit. My husband and I booked the trip to celebrate our second wedding anniversary.

All I can say is, Tiamo is a true slice of paradise. It was exactly what we expected based on the magazine article and the resort's website. They are exactly what they say they are. The location is just beautiful, the bungalows are adorable and very comfortable (not having AC was not an issue at all and I'm an AC Queen), the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We snorkled, kayaked and sailed every day and truly relaxed for the first time in a very long time. We loved that there are no TVs or phones around. It was absolute bliss not listening to either one for a whole week.

We also met an amazing group of people during our stay. I've read other reviews about Tiamo where people complained about the 'family style' dining. I would have to guess that those folks just aren't sociable people. We really looked forward to the Happy Hours every day, and thoroughly enjoyed the long table at dinner. Every couple sat in a different place every night so it was a great way to really get to know everyone. The conversation was fantastic! I've also read reviews about issues with bugs. We did not have any problems at all. Each bungalow has mosquito spray and that's all you need. I'd even bought the highest rated DEET spray I could find in prep, but never used it. Maybe it has something to do with the time of year....I have no doubt that as it gets warmer, there will be more bugs. But if you use the spray, you're fine. And let's remember, you are on an island! To think that there wouldn't be bugs is ridiculous.

We did not get to meet Petagay or Bella as they were in Eleuthra at the time, but we did meet Mike. He joined us at the Happy Hours and at dinner and he was a hoot as well as a total sweetheart. We are most definitely going back next year and staying for a longer spell. I would recommend Tiamo for anyone who really wants to disconnect from the stress of every day life, for anyone who loves the ocean, nature and a laid back pace of life, island style.

“100% Satisfaction at Tiamo”

Tiamo

5 of 5 stars
New Orleans, LA
Jun 9, 2008

My husband and I just returned from a 6 day stay at Tiamo resorts, celebrating our wedding anniversary. An environmentally-friendly experience was important to us and we found no contradictions at Tiamo.

The overall experience was really outstanding. The staff was top-notch and very willing to accommodate requests. The resort itself was beautiful....the surrounding area was quiet, remote and romantic. We also loved how there were different activities going on each day that were part of the package: snorkling, sailing, kayaking, tours, etc.... Another cool aspect of Tiamo is the willingness and excitement to educate and share how the resort functions...we loved the "Behind the Scenes" tour and received a detailed response of every question we asked (and we asked alot!).

There's a strong sense of family and community at Tiamo. The evening communal dining was a great way to get to know the other guests, not to mention the food was delicious! We also really loved the various research projects that staff members are involved in and how they are working with members / students of the local community and the Bahamian Govt.

I would highly recommend Tiamo to anyone seeking a quiet, enjoyable escape in an eco-friendly environment. I felt like I was part of National Geographic....the water life and blue holes were amazing and the iguanas were huge! Go relax and feed your brain....you won't miss your email at all!

“Absolutely amazing!”

Tiamo

Tiamo is the perfect place for couples to get away from it all. This resort is truly spectacular; from the staff (helpful, welcoming and unbelievably friendly), to the food (gourmet all the way), to the accomodations (luxury boutique and earthy all at the same time), I couldn't say enough great things about Tiamo. The eco-concierge staff made our trip. There's sea kayaking, snorkeling blue holes, scuba diving, deep sea and bone fishing; you name it and you can do it here. We even went for a morning run with the owner, a staffer and another guest. What an experience and what a place. You won't want to miss Tiamo when you travel to the Bahamas and Andros is spectacular! You'll arrive a stranger and leave one of the family. This is a must do.

    • Disliked — Some bugs and we got a few bug bites that were itchey for the rest of our trip. Not much you can do about that though.

Beautiful spot ... really nice, well trained staff, and management that "walks the walk" behind their ecologically sustainable tourism concept. They deliver all that is promised!

“Eco Resort that Means Resort”

Tiamo

5 of 5 stars
branford, connecticut

We have just returned from a glorious week at this out of the way eco-resort, where privacy, sun, water sports and really first rate food made for one of the best vacations ever. All bungalos are two person, screened and curtained giving a unique combination of feeling outside and being private all at once. Water activities (including bonefishing), hiking, birding and the like are available as you want them and in amounts that you choose. This is a place with strategically laid out hammocks that encourage just doing nothing if that's what you want too. The dining was superb - unusual when one eats from the same kitchen for a week. We continued to look forward to the next meal and were never disappointed.

But what really sets Tiamo apart is the staff, warm, friendly, sensitive and fun. In short order they become like family, and they run the place like family. This is a special place to which we will return.
