“Amazing Beach; Good hotel”

Pink Sands

We stayed here as the first part of our honeymoon, mainly because my new wife loved the idea of riding a white horse on the pink beach.

The beach certainly lived up to expectations, and was the most amazing colour, and softness.

The suite in the hotel was large, very clean and with a number of small luxuries, including a hot tub we used every evening.

We enjoyed dinner one night in the hotel resturant, which was very good, although I thought dinner in the Rockhouse restaurant was slightly better. I also thoroughly enjoyed lunch at SipSip overlooking the beach.

Overall we had a great time, and thought the hotel delivered what it promised.

“The best Hotel, lacking in the Restaurant Service”

Pink Sands

First of all, the Pink Sands is a Phenomenal place to stay. The beaches, the water, the rooms, everything. After many years of visiting this resort, something has changed in the Restaurant.
We were a party of 6. Pretty easy going but we eat late and like to move along with our dinner. In the past years, this has not been a problem. For two nights, we had a problem. Slow to non-existent service. First we had a drink problem. The favorite drink of our host is a martini with Grey Goose. When it came, it tasted like water. Sent it back, got a new one. Same thing. I usually do not drink Martini's since I do not like the taste of strong vodka. I tasted it and could have gulped it down for the lack of any vodka taste. The staff disagreed but brought a new one anyway. The third try was with a different brand and was fine. You make the assumption. We had brought our own wine and agreed to a corking charge. Since we had the wine we wanted to order right away. That along with the drink problem and the wine seemed to have caused some confusion and frustration on the part of the waitress but we got it done. During the meal, we noticed that others around us, with other waiters, were being taken care of.. water, clearing, etc. We were not. Twenty minutes after finishing dinner I got up and went to the bar. The waitress was standing there doing paperwork. I asked for some service since we had no water, drinks or clearing and I was very thirsty. She looked at me and said.. 'what would you like me to do?'. 'Service would be nice' I replied.
I talked to the bar tender the next day in town and he said that she had had a bad night and had recommended that she send two other waiters over to help, which she did not do.
Both nights, we were in an uncrowded restaurant with below average service. It will make us think twice when we return next year as to where we eat.

“Taking it easy on Pink Sands”

We arrived at Pink Sands and were shown to our lavender oceanfront villa. It was one of the two bath, two bedrooms each with their own TV and DVD and a shared living room, quite comfortable. The beach is a dream but unfortunately it rained almost everyday. Nonetheless we rode around the island in our rented golf cart visited all the shops we could find and tried lunch next door at Coral Beach(?) that was good. The best in dining is at "The Landing" truly superb. The Rock House is also good and has great ambiance and view. Dining at the hotel was surprisingly nice. Even though the service everywhere on the island was slow, I have never visited a Caribbean island that has had prompt service. After all, they're in no rush. My advice to those travelling from the big cities is to get ready to let go , relax, and enjoy.

“My Beloved Pink Sands”

Pink Sands

May 19, 2007

I have been a devoted Pink Sands guest since 1996, having stayed there about seven times. My latest trip was just last week -- 5/10 to 5/14. As it turns out, we were the last guests to stay under the impeccable management and ownership of Chris Blackwell and Clemens and Nancy Von Merveldt. I'm so happy we got to go there before Clemens and Nancy leave. In the midst of the tiny Bahamian jewel that is Harbour Island, they created a mystical, magical, enchanting oasis that soothes the mind and the spirit. The Pink Sands ecelectic decor of predominantly East Indian and Balinese furnishings and accoutraments makes you feel as though you are a million miles away from your cares and worries. The landscaping throughout the property is not only beautiful, but provides much privacy. The place is adorned with gorgeous, lush flowering trees and bushes of many hues. It also soothes you with the sights and sounds of all sorts of wildlife -- tree frogs, crickets, melodic birds -- what a treat for city dwellers used to hearing sirens and traffic. On the edge of an outdoor dining garden and an indoor dining terrace is a pond with water lillies right out of a Monet painting. Another acquatic garden at the main entrance has live bamboo and turtles. Each guest cottage has a unique decor and private outdoor space. They provide casually elegant comfort and tranquility. The Aveda toiletry samples and feather pillows especially give the cottages an A+ in my book! The food is very good, with the room rates including a full breakfast and three course dinner. The service is efficient, yet genuinely friendly and laid back. You get the feeling that the people who work there truly want you to have a wonderful experience. They make me understand why Harbour Island bills itself as "the home of friendly people." The gentle dignity and grace of the people of Harbour Island adds to the rejuvenating experience of a visit to this island paradise. Clemens and Nancy have always been on top of every detail at the Pink Sands. I will miss them! I hope the Pinks Sands doesn't change under new management because it will be hard to replicate the talent that Clemens and Nancy possess. They have run the Pink Sands with so much attention, care and love in every little thing they do. I can sum up the whole experience of visiting Harbour Island and staying at The Pink Sands as like something out of a dream; a little piece of heaven.
