“The Sea of Cortez is beautiful!”

Inn at Loreto Bay

We went to Loreto in Oct of 2005 and stayed at the Camino Real (now the Inn at Loreto Bay). This is one of the most beautiful spots we have visited. The Sea of Cortez was so calm and the water was so clear and warm it made it wonderfully enjoyable. The hotel is nice. It's not 5 star luxury by American standards, probably 3 to 4.

The rooms were standard Mexico style with tile and granite. Clean and nice just not over;ly fancy. The grounds of the hotel were nicely kept and the staff was attentive. We ate in the restaurants and found the food to be good. Some of the folks in our group got sick. We did not.

The town of Loreto itself is nice too. They don't have a well developed main street/tourist area as some other places we have visited in Mexico.(Playa Del Carmin is great) Taxi fare into town is about $15 US each way, so going into town very much could get expensive! We highly recommend taking the snorkling cruise on the El Don. The water is so clear that you can see the bottom in 40 feet of water! We spent about four hours on board. They kept us supplied with drinks and fed us a great lunch. We cruised amongst the coastal islands for a couple of hours and ended at a pristine place called "Honeymoon Beach". The snorkling was awesome and we saw many different varieties of sealife.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay at Loreto Bay. The calm water of the bay and the awesome contrast of the sea and the mountains make the scenery breathtaking!

“A long way to go...”

Inn at Loreto Bay

It is such a shame that the Inn can't get it's act together. They are seeing occupancy like they have probably never seen before due to the Loreto Bay development, but unfortunately are "dropping the ball" left and right.

Our family stayed at the Inn for 4 nights. Overall, the staff are friendly and seem eager to please, however they rarely deliver without something going wrong or without having to ASK (beg even )several times to have things done. Here are some examples:

Our shower did not drain properly and we called housekeeping..."yes, we'll have someone come to your room to take a look". Great, but I waited for 20 minutes and no one came. Called again. Same response and again...waited for 20 minutes. Finally left the room and returned and no one had come. Called again the next day and FINALLY got someone to come. Supposedly fixed, we took showers and ended up flooding not only the bathroom but the rest of the room.

This same experience occurred with a toilet that wouldn't flush and we waited for hours before we had fresh towels brought to the room to replace the ones lost to the flood.

In regard to the hotel itself, I think it is beautiful, but needs serious updating and upgrading to world luxury standards if they are to consider the hotel 5 star. The beds and pillows are typical hard mexican pieces and the artwork is dated. I love the bathrooms, except for the fact that they are under lit. The pool and jaccuzi are in REAL need of repair, and in fact I'd just recommend they rip it all out and start from scratch. The jaccuzi doesn't work and is boarded up so that not only is it unusable, but a terrible eyesore. The beach has too few lounge chairs and too few palapa umbrella's for the number of visitors that come the resort. Especially considering the brutal Baja sun in the hot months.

I know this hotel will get there someday because of all the changes in the area, but for now I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you are buying down there or have come for the fantastic fishing and can handle the manana service level. It is truly a magnificent place, but I'd choose to stay in the nearby Loreto Bay homes when they become available for rent.

“Would Go Again, But Would Expect Less Next Time”

Inn at Loreto Bay

Just returned from an annual trip to Mexico with a fair sized group. We last stayed at the Inn (the Camino Real back then) in 2003, when I wrote a more positive review.

While we were staying at the Inn, the homeowner's had their annual meeting with the Loreto Bay Company. The Company that owns and operates the Inn and is actively building homes within the site.

I'm uncertain if the number of investors staying at the Inn caused the hotel's staff to be on their toes and provide as prompt a service as possible or whether the staff was simply overwhelmed. Being an old hand having travelled in and to Mexico over 15 years ... I'm neither looking for nor expecting 5 stars or superb treatment. Overall, the staff was extremely pleasant and willing to please (slightly less so than they were 3 years ago), however, there were times when it took way too long to receive our food or drinks - and we are an extremely generous group with our tips.

Some in our party were without water in their rooms. Others were without hot water so the problems mentioned by other reviewers are still going on.

The golf course is going back to the desert as the fairways shrink - though it still is a nicely design course. The course is owned by Fonatur - not the Inn at Loreto Bay - so one can't hold the Inn responsible for its continuing decline. Fishing was very good an a number of Yellow Tail were caught by every boat in our group .

As the Inn was less than 2/3's occuppied - including the numerous homeowner's - I 'm curious how things would really be with less occupancy at the Inn. The views are still wonderful. Sunrises and sunsets spectacular. We had excellent weather in the mid-80's.

Bottomline, willing to go again.

“Overall, pretty lousy”

Inn at Loreto Bay

I recommend staying away! If you go, make sure you go all inclusive. The hotel is a $34 round trip cab ride from town. When we checked in, we asked for a roll away bed, and the clerk said okay, and wrote it on a piece of paper, but never did anything about it. Later, when we asked again, we were told we needed to call housekeeping. We were told okay by housekeeping, but later, when no bed arrived, we were told they were all out. This was very typical of our experience. Lots of smiles but no actual service. The dinner buffet was $25 per person and barely edible (and I'm not very picky). The "good" restuarant was very overpriced, and even though nearly empty, would not serve us because we did not have reservations. On Saturday, the only food available was an overpriced beach buffet or room service, and when we requested room service to be delivered poolside, disaster ensued. Hours to get our food, no beverages delivered, etc. The pool water was very cold, the jacuzzi in the pool did not work and there were no pool lights at night. Tiles were falling off and the repairs appeared very amatuerish. Not enough beach lounges, so people start hoarding them at the crack of dawn. Good luck finding a place to sit at poolside or at the beach. Everyone checks out at the same time on Sunday noon, yet, the front desk was understaffed and disorganized. Not enough cabs to get to the airport. One problem after another, all easily anticipated by hotel professionals, with no attempt to solve problems. Very poor attention to detail. Room itself was nice, but noisy (very thin walls?). Definately would not stay again.

A lovely location, but the hotel itself leaves a LOT to be desired.

“Beware of Loreto Bay Company!”

Inn at Loreto Bay

Very calm quiet hotel. They are having problems with water. We were without any water three times during our 4 night stay. Staff was eager to please, however absolutely NO assistance from their supervisors. All in all the staff appeared to be quite unefficient and terribly overworked.
When the Loreto Bay Real Estate people bring in their plane loads of clients...it is a disaster for the hotel guests. They cater only to them, and the "regular" guests are treated poorly. It is for this reason we will most likely never stay there again!
