My Review on the Avalon Excaliber Hotel...
I did read others reviews on the Avalon hotel prior to going there. I was skeptical on going and thought about changing locations, but what was done was done. When we arrived to the hotel the outside looks fairly nice in comparison to other hotels in the block. The drivethrough entrance is tight. There are a lot of bell men wearing white uniforms ready to assist you. I must say the Lobby is pretty nice. It has an opening view to the ocean. The floor is tiled and clean. The check in was fine no hassles or long lines to wait in. Now as you are waiting in line you will see that there are many Mexican natives vacationing as well. You will have to get use to this. For Mexican people, Acapulco is their Cancun. The hotel prices are affordable and they can find places to eat at descent prices. So, if you don't feel comfortable with seeing Mexicans in Mexico then maybe Acapulco is not for you.

Over the hotel was clean but old! The beds were hard as a rock. There is loud music from 9-11 PM. The beach experience is awesome, just stay inside the ropped area so the local vendors don't pester you. They do have to make a living, but sometimes they don't leave you alone! They cant' go inside the ropped area so if you don't want to be bugged then stay within the boundary area and you'll enjoy the ocean view and peace.

The hotel's restaurant has good food and I recommend it for once or twice but its pricey $15.00 for a breakfast buffet. We ate at Vips restaurant for breakfast located across the street, its good, its like a Denny's. The best restaurants we recommend for lunch is Beto's restaurant (order their fruit special) and Paradaise Restaurant for a sunset dinner. Senor Frogs up on the hill (by Mezanote) for late drinks. It has a great view but the food is okay, its more for drinking and viewing the whole bay of acapulco...its beautiful.

My best advice is to ask how much something is before eating it or buying it. The locals are sometimes super ridiculous in how much they want to charge. They quadruple the price. You must use your barganing skills and don't give in! Use your better judgement on what the real price should be.

If you have a chance go hotel hopping at the Princess Hotel and the Mayan Palace. And, Oh! ... by the way do not listen to the representatives to the Mayan Palace. You will be approached 100+ offering some discounts or free entrance to the CICI water park, but let me tell you its not worth it. They say the time share presentation is only a 90 minute talk ...Hah! we were there 6 hours! with no food offered to us and we had to ask for a water bottle so we wouldn't faint. The best way to avoid the Mayan Palace representatives is to say "Ya Fuimos," that means we already went there. They will stop harrasing you instantly, works like a charm.

Have fun!

“This was the worst hotel experience I ever made!!!”

I stay in hotels about 90 nights per year. Mostly on business. I am used to hotel rooms, even if the are not perfect. But the Avalon Excalibur was the worst experience I ever made: The staff was extremely arrogant even after my 1 hour !!!! wait for check-in. The noise level was so high that I could not talk normally with my friend when we were on our room. Other issues: slowest elevators ever, no a/c in lobby and hallways, dirty restaurant, ... When we checked out earlier, we were treated like criminals and were lied to. My recommendation: Only stay here if you want to mess up your trip!

Where should I start about what was wrong with the Avalon Excalibur? It began with the check-in. People lined up for a 1:20 hour wait in a non-airconditioned lobby. But I guess the worst was the overall noise level. There was not a single quite place in the entire hotel, including the rooms. Below our room's balcony was a loudspeaker with music from 9 am - 10 pm. At 10 pm, a pool party organized by the hotel started and lasted until 3 am. When we requested a different room (about 5 times), we were told that the hotel was fully booked and thus no other room available. The other problems of the hotel (hard matresses, run-down bath rooms, dirty beach, awful restaurants) almost seem to be unimportant after only 3 hours of sleep despite of earplugs. We left after the first night (although be were on a nonrefunable prepaid rate) and looked for a different hotel. Acapulco can be a great place, but not at the Avalon Excalibur!

“Avalon Excalibur Should Be a Two Star”

Avalon Excalibur Acapulco

I just returned from a stay in Acapulco. I had one night at Las Brisas, excellent and one night at the Camino Real, very good. One week at a timeshare, excellent. Final night was at the Avalon Excalibur, due to a scheduled flight being canceled.

It was given a three star rating so I presumed it would not be upscale or fancy but it was anything but even normal. The tub was cracked, the paint peeling, the tiles broken on the floor, the chairs upholstery glued to keep it together, the furniture was old and scratched, the marble in the bathroom totally stained and ruined. The beds had a dusty and musty odor. The lights were dim. The noise was very loud from the swimming pool and beach. There were no wash cloths or hair dryers or remotes for the 19" Goldstar TV. The elevators did not work so with twenty floors filled with Avalon Club members one could not get up or down easily. Calling for help with luggage, or to get a hair dryer was unanswered. The only thing this old, worn hotel has is a beach and a good restaurant.

“fit our needs”

Avalon Excalibur Acapulco

We were somewhat aprehensive about booking this hotel after reading the mostly negative reviews here, but our stay turned out to be pretty good. The room was very spacious and clean. The view from the 17th floor was fantastic. The kitchen was adequetly supplied. The room service was excellent every day. The one and only negative was the sleeper sofa my two children had to use. It was absolutely the worst sleeper sofa we've ever encountered. (Most sleeper sofas are pretty bad however). The kids couldn't even sleep on it one night, and in fact took the mattress and slept with it on the floor. Fortunately they didn't mind it at all. The common areas were well maintained and clean. The pool area was small but adequate. Pool service was lightly staffed and it was generally quicker to go to the bar and get your own drinks. We never ate at the restaurants, but food at the pool was good and surprisingly inexpensive. Overall hotel experience.... if you're looking to be pampered in a plush hotel this is not the place to go, but if value and taking care of your own needs is what you want then, as for us, it was great. Location is great, many restaurants nearby, nightly walks in a safe environment, inexpensive public transportation if you want to travel further down the strip, or plenty of taxi service if you don't mind paying $5 or so to get around. Overall we had a good experience and I would recommend this hotel to others.
