“Gem of a hotel!”

Villas Coral

4 of 5 stars
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

We stayed at the Villas Coral for one week, from December 26 to January 2, 2008. We are a party of four, two couples from Saskatoon, Saskathewan.

We loved the hotel! It had a beautiful rocky cove right in front, I think all rooms had ocean views. It was all white and fairly Moorish in style - it reminded us of the Las Hadas in Manzanillo.

There was a pretty little beach, Playa Arrocito, about a five minute walk away. As it was the busy high season, it was packed with Mexican tourists, but if you went at a slow time you might find you have it almost to yourselves!

Our room was not one of the kitchenette suites with sitting area, (we would get one of those next time) but it had a king bed and was quite comfortable, with a large patio sitting area. No tub but a nice big walk-in shower. It was always very clean.

We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant (also a great ocean view) almost every morning, prices were reasonable and the food was good.

It may feel a bit remote but really isn't. It would be a bit of a hike to walk to Santa Cruz or La Crucecita from there (maybe40 minutes?), but cabs are cheap and plentiful (to the above-mentioned, only 25 pesos) and one was there within 5 minutes of them calling for a taxi for us- and this was during one of the busiest tourist times of the year! We never had a problem catching a cab to come back to the hotel either, not even New Years eve.

The pool was small but nice and the water temp perfect. There is a nice deck with loungers above the pool with lots of shade, welcome as the area is very hot and it's always sunny! I would say the temp was about 30-34 degrees Celcius every day.

Alfonso and Javier at the lobby office were very friendly and helpful, also Luisa the manager was a great font of area information.

No complaints at all. The hotel is not fancy and it's showing it's age a bit around the edges (that salt air is hard on paint, etc.), and the amenities are pretty basic, but the wonderful view and the serenity of it is well worth every penny. Since we prefer non- all inclsuive hotels, we would return in a heartbeat!

“Yoga at the Hotel Villas Coral!”

We were pleasantly surprised to discover that the Hotel Villas Coral now offers morning yoga and meditation classes during the winter months. My husband and I recently attended a 7-day "Yoga Vacation" at the hotel and had a great time!. The yoga classes were a flowing , gentle style of yoga (Vinyasa)taught Monday thru Saturday mornings by an experienced, registered yoga teacher. They were perfect for beginners as well as the more experienced practitioners.

What a wonderful way to start the day in this secluded, tranquil environment! The Villas Coral has been one of our favorite small hotels on the Mexicn coast for years and being able to do yoga makes it even more appealling. Our "Yoga Vacation Package" included our a room, breakfast and lunch, daily yoga and meditation classes and transportation to and from the airport. Afternoons, we were free to enjoy the many activities available in and around Huatulco. And Apple Vacations offers inexpensive "air-only" flights direct to Huatulco.

The food was fresh, healthy and abundant. And delightful staff was able to arrange many activiities for us including fishing and a snorkeling boat trip. There's a beautiful golf course, several fine beaches and lots of hiking and biking trails. I can't wait to go back in February!

To start off we chose this hotel for guests from the US and Mexico for our wedding in Huatulco. My husband and I chose this hotel after looking at many in the area (both large resorts and small hotels). We liked this property for several reasons: Incomparable views from the rooms, from the very large and ample balconies, from the restaurant and from the large terrace on the first level. Room offerings: there are suites, villas (more like 2 bedroom apartment or condo) and basic rooms. All were clean and with the standard amenities. Pool: while not resort size definitely more than adequate and there is also a kiddy pool. Restaurant: basic with good breakfast and snacks in the afternoon. Price: Very accesible for everyone in our group. Things to consider when booking is that the hotel is situated on the side of hill....thus allowing for the incredible views....but if you have problems with stairs be sure to ask for a room closer to ground level. There is access to the water from a rocky area just below the hotel and there is a small beach within walking distance. In my opinion Huatulco is best seen from many beaches, there are many to choose from. Cab rides to the nearby beaches, shops and restaurants are very cheap and cabs are at the hotel within 5 minutes. This hotel by design is more for relaxing and a great place for a small group get together. Because we had most of the hotel booked over the weekend we really felt very well taken care of by the staff. They all went out of their way to take care of our guests and we will definitely be returning soon! We did not have our wedding or any activities at the hotel...not because we didn't want to but because the hotel prefers to keep the environment low key out of respect for all of the guests. I can appreciate that. Other note, if traveling with a group the hotel does not have phones in the rooms.....so if you like the luxury of calling from room to room rathering than possibley climbing stairs if your rooms are apart be sure to bring your cell or a set of walkie talkies:) We are already planning are next trip to the hotel.

Don't feel too singled out San Francisco member! We booked a large block of rooms at this hotel that were abruptly canceled 2 weeks prior to our trip. Putting the best light on it, the management there decided that they weren't able to give adequate attention to our group. Better to know now rather than later. This may be a perfectly lovely place for individual travelers to stay, but can't add much to that discussion! It will be nice to see some comments from people who have actually stayed there recently.

Grounds are beautiful and views overlooking the ocean are awesome...but when my partner and I and another male couple were asked to leave because "...you have to understand that we do not want you here..", well, the tranquility of the hotel was clouded like the dark clouds that gloomed over the pacific, in the distance.
