Nov. 2006, Just returned from a week in Ixtapa / Zihua and had a ball. There is so much to do that you could stay busy every day, or just laze around and do nothing.
Went one day over to Ixtapa Island, and I highly recommend it. Take a taxi from your hotel and then catch the water taxis to the island. Water taxis was 30peso ($3.US) so not going to break the bank. We heard several people state how expensive the food and activities were over on the island, but found that not to be true. In the middle of the one swimming beach / snorkling beach there is a restaurant that serves both sides of the island. It must be shaped like a dumbell as the island narrowed at this site and a particular restaurant served both sides. We started out early in the day on the snorkle side, and fed the fish, and then later moved over to the softer surf for the children to play in the water. (3 and 5 year old, surf on swim side was okay for them). The waiters assited us with moving all of our equipment, and even went so far as to move our chairs from under the palapas on the surf side over to the swim side. Jessica speaks English and has no trouble assisting you with whatever you need for the day. But what could you need except snorkle gear, a palapa, drink and sun?
Go there, you won't be dissapointed. Oh, and check out the Crocodiles in the nature walk on the way from the parking lot to the water taxis.
