“Beware!!!”

Melia Azul Ixtapa

IN MY OPINION YOU MUST READ & BEWARE!!! This is by far the WORST!!! vacation I have ever had. My family and I took our trip to Ixtapa in July expecting to relax and enjoy ourselves, however we were faced with terrible customer service, disgustingly filthy accommodations. When we arrived we were greeted with "unfortunately your rooms are not ready, please feel free to have a seat in our Lobby" Strike 1. When we were finally called we were informed that we were being upgraded to a Jr suite, we though "wow, things are going to be just fine" WRONG!!! My brother and his wife had requested a room with two beds and a crib because they have a 3 yr old and a 1 1/2 year old. They were given a room on the opposite side of the hotel which defeated the purpose of family time. Not only were they sent to the other end of the hotel, they were given a time share room. The room appeared to be clean until they removed the sheets and opened the sofa bed, food and stains everywhere, would you lay your children to bed in filth? I don't think so. Strike 2. Now back to our Jr. suites that my father and mother and my wife and I were given, again everything appeared great when we walked in but again looks can be deceiving. The air conditioning in the room was leaking water onto the floor and caused my wife to slip, thankfully she was not seriously hurt, keep in mind that this is an all tile floor. I called the front desk immediately and asked to speak with a manager, I explained to him what had happened and he seemed very uninterested and simply stated that he would send maintenance to fix it. When maintenance showed up they took care of the problem but we had to be out of room for over an hour, there goes the relaxation. Strike 3, you're out. You would think that it would end there but NO! The Food was mediocre the entertainment was not entertaining and the drinks were lacking. A few positives if you decide to ignore my warning; the swimming pool was nice, and my nieces really enjoyed the kiddy slides. Also if you go to the lobby bar ask for Israel, he was one of two of the nicest people we met out there and at the pool ask for Jesus he was the other one. Again beware, looks can be deceiving.

“STAY FAR AWAY”

Melia Azul Ixtapa

Where do I begin. I thought that by being on vacation I would be able to relax and enjoy my time off with my family. This could have been further from reality. Upon arrival The front desk initially told us that there were no junior suites available but soon recanted after a little persuasion. When we entered the upgraded room, we were entirely dissappointed. The room was old and musty. the standard room was by far nicer, so as a half hour past I went back to front desk to find out that they were sold out, c'mon, I was originally booked in a standard room how could that be, a little persuasion and I was put in a regular room. I have two little boys ages 5 and 3 who had a terrific time in the kids pool. they are picky eaters but we were able to find something to their liking. My wife got burned on the seond day, so she decided to wear a shirt in the pool, THIS IS A BIG NO NO. They and when I say they I mean the lifeguard, pool manager, and the general manager all threw her out of the pool. She was not allowed in the pool with a shirt on. After much argument about no posted rules or regulations, they stuck to their initial decision. Talk about being mistreated and embarrassed. The food was average at best with too many birds and flies lingering around waiting for their chance. The shows were good with the performers dancing the same basic dances but very entertaining. the beach was not as good as the ones on Ixtapa island. Do not go to zihuatanejo to shop if you want to return home, you do not get a very safe feeling. When considering this resort be mindful of the phrase looks can be deceiving. Dont expect to be treated with the same as other who come from mexico or other surrounding hispanic countries. Will never return to Melia Azul in Mexico.

“Never Again”

Let me begin by saying that I have already filed a complaint with the booking agency regarding this hotel.

I had previously stayed at another Melia hotel in Cancun and since that trip went well, I just assumed that this trip would also be the same...boy was I wrong!

At the time of purchase, we requested a Deluxe Ocean View room with two beds in order to accommodate my daughters ages 3 and 1 and my husband and I.

Upon our arrival to the hotel, we were told that since we were checking-in late, the room which we had requested was no longer available and because of that we were given a timeshare room. The timeshare room consisted of a king size bed and a sofa bed. According to hotel personnel, we were put in that room because we had specifically requested a room with two beds. When we were ready to settle our children into bed we noticed that the sofa bed was filthy and covered in stains. We contacted the front desk, informed them of the conditions of the sofa and requested to be moved to a different room. Once again we were informed that the hotel was completely booked therefore they could not accommodate us. They sent two personnel to inspect the sofa bed, and upon their inspection they suggested that they could either send up a different sofa bed or bring in a bed. At this time it was now nearing 11pm and so we obviously choose the bed for our children. When the bed finally arrived we were horrified to find ourselves with a cot. The ‘bed’ was a mattresses atop a metal frame with a piece of wood for a headboard; completely unstable for an adult let a lone for a child. We scheduled an appointment the next day to meet with the hotel manager.

I truly believe that this is too much frustration to have to deal with while on vacation. I wasted a complete day making numerous phone calls, requesting changes, unpacking, packing, and unpacking once again. I requested and I paid for a room with two beds I don’t feel that my requests were unacceptable. My family and I did not travel from Los Angeles to Ixtapa so that my daughters could have the option of sleeping on either a filthy sofa bed or a cot.

In addition to the room incident, it is unclear how this hotel can claim to be an all-inclusive facility when they do not permit food or drinks to be taken back to the rooms or near the pools and if you request to have food brought up to your room you have to pay. How is this ‘all-inclusive’?

“NOT FOR AMERICANS”

Melia Azul Ixtapa

Went to the Melia Azul in Ixtapa after having good experiences at the Sol Melia Hotels in the Dominican Republic. Unfortunately this Hotel was a terrible experience for me, my wife and two children son age 10 and daughter 5. Too many rules and regulations making the overall experience lousy. Was not able to eat at the pool, take food to my room, no stock of drinks in the refrigerator, bug infestation in room, unable to wear cotton fabics in pool, had to pay for room service, use of mini golf etc. There were a lot of Mexicans staying there and it was obvious that the guests and staff alike did not like having Americans around. Shows were OK if you can stomach a sewage smell nearby. Food was OK at all the restaurants but you had to fight the flies indoors and the birds outdoors. Kids had fun at the children's pool but an adult needed to be present along with their own lifeguards. Lifeguards were nasty and showed no common sense. One yelled and treated me like a criminal when I tried to bring some french fries to my son in the room who had a headache. Because of this experience I will no longer stay at a Sol Melia Resort and will skip Mexico for at least a couple of years. I suggest you save your hard earned money and visit Beaches[Turks and Caicos] or the Dreams/ Sunscape Resorts.

“never again”

I travel to Mexico at least six weeks a year, and I have never experienced anything like this past week. My son got very sick the second day we were there, but there is a doctor on staff that will give them a shot for 50 dollars. It did make it feel much better. The doctor seemed to very popular with the other families as well. We spent a great deal of time with four other families, and at least one person was sick from each family. I also saw two other people break out in some weird rash...

The pool was very dirty. It had some sort of black fungus all over the walls. It was really disgusting. Not many people were in the ocean due to the recent shark attacks. So the only option was the pool.

There seemed to be a lot of small children or local adults. I brought my two teen age sons, and it was not very fun for them. I promised to never take them back.

As for the food...... The worst I have had at an all-inclusive resort. It was the same every day at every restaurant. You were not allowed to take the food out of the area's or back to your room. No food service at the pool. The Oyster Bar and Azul were just alright. The best thing on the menu was the spanish coffee, so that I could forget how bad the food was. The manager of the Azul was the nicest person though.

The staff was very nice everywhere. I don't think there was a problem with anyone that worked there. Some did not speak any English, and most spoke very little, but you are in Mexico. If you do not speak any Spanish I would not recommend this hotel. I had my teen age boys to translate for me.
