First time in Mazatlan. First time in Mexico also. I was so pleased. We booked through selloffvacations.com and got an awesome deal. Our room was ocean view and very clean. We (my husband, and our two girls -8 & 14) really loved this small hotel. The staff was very friendly. The lady at the coffee bar was super nice....lattes only 25 pesos. ! The margaritas were very good.....not used to them being so strong though..lol. We were there from Jan 9th - 16, 2008, the weather was warm during the day but in the evening you needed a sweater. I was told that this was colder than they usually expect in Jan. They have a laundry room which was very clean and it cost 50 pesos to do one wash and one dry (you buy coins from the front desk) and they give you a small bag of soap which does 2 loads. Oh yeah, and high speed internet in the rooms....we brought our lap top so our teen was happy too. The pool was very clean! The only thing that I wish it had was a hot tub. If you sit by the rocks near the bridge in the pool it is warm...that's where the pool heater is I guess. Happy hour is from 4-7! Margaritas are only 20 pesos during happy hour! Fabulous hotel, staff and accommodation's! . We will be going back! Loved it!

I won't repeat all of the previous good reviews. I'll merely ditto those.

For the benefit of us travelling in Jan. or Feb. I had a difficult time finding out what the weather can be like. Wife and I went Jan. 2 - 9, 2008 and the weather was perfect for us. Daytime was sunny and about 27 C while nights were about 12 C. Great for sleeping, no A/C was required.

As for the hard mattresses, we asked for an extra blanket under the bed sheet and that worked. Previous Feb. when we were thereI thought that I would tough it out with my bad back but by the third day I had trouble walking. This time the extra padding worked.

I did not rate Holiday Inn as a 5 as this time I was annoyed by the front desk hastling us about some presentation. First time the front desk phoned our room, I said that we were not interested in a presentation, but another note was pushed under our door saying that they are expecting us for breakfast. What's up with that?

We did not go all inclusive, but all else was great, the service, the cleanliness, the quiet (if you like that) the grounds, the pool etc. We'll go to Holiday Inn again.

We stayed for four nights during the middle of January. The pools are very nice and clean as was the very nice beach by the hotel. It was a bit cold while we were there, so we didn't actually swim in the ocean but a beautiful place to just walk the beach and relax. The staff at the hotel was very nice and the rooms, while nothing special, were clean and well appointed. Lots of reasonably priced restaurants close by. We especially liked "La Palapa del Mar" across the street from the hotel. Great service and wonderful, reasonably priced sea food. Try the coconut shrimp and the fish and chips. We ate dinner there three of the four nights we were in Mazatlan. We would definately consider this hotel again.

My husband and I just got back from our fourth stay at the Holiday Inn. We come back for the beautiful grounds and infinity pool, the comfortable rooms, fabulous service, and the great food and drinks. We really enjoy that it is a quiet resort. Not the typical large resort with music blaring all day. The location is also a plus. Very close to great restaurants, and a quick pulmonia or bus ride to the market, Cathedral, and other areas of interest.

I do want to share three of our favorite restaurants we visit when we come to Mazatlan.

The first is "Carlos and Lucias" which is located just outside of the Holiday Inn. When you leave the hotel on the street side, just take a right and go about 75 feet. They are a family run business with fabulous food. Their daughter Jacqueline has been our waitress whenever we go and greets us with a big smile. Try the fresh fish of the day prepared to your liking. The shish-k-bob has shrimp, fish, and beef with vegetables. They are also open for breakfast.

Our second favorite restaurant is the "Arre Lulu" located in the Golden Zone next to the "Shrimp Factory". This is a gem of a restaurant. Order Margaritas or a bucket of beer, enjoy the chips, salsa and guacamole. Order the tortilla soup, shrimp tacos, fajitas, or the garlic butter shrimp and you will not be disappointed.

Finally, step out on the beach and walk North about 2-3 blocks to "Tonys" or "Chilis Pepper" which are located next to each other. We have eaten at both places and they are equally great. We enjoy the ocean view while sipping our margaritas and eating the great mexican food. We also discovered that taking a long walk on the beach and finishing it with a "Bloody Mary" at "Chilis Pepper" is a nice way to start the day!

If you decide to stay at the Holiday Inn Sunspree you will be in for a very relaxing and peaceful stay.
