“Good Value and Service for the Money!”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

I must admit that at first i had mixed feelings about coming to this hotel and also changed my mind for another but am glad i stayed. The service i thought was great, the hotel was clean and almost every room had an ocean view, who wouldnt want that on their vacation right?
First, I have to agree with the other viewers that check-in was very slow. I must have gotten the trainee when i checked in because he had to ask someone else for help when i asked a question. He gave no direction to room, how to get the 9th floor which we book that was only accessible by a key in the elevator and our check out time however I got this i got answered later. Otherwise, we were very impressed with the entry to the hotel in the lobby, nice breeze and decor including the mini water fall that was very soothing.
On the 9th floor, you were greeted with a mini buffet which they served light snacks and breakfast- hint guys, this buffet, though good has no variation so you will get tired of the same serving eventually. I would suggest TOKS across the street in the shopping center where the grocery store is located (comparable to an upscale Denny's).
The room was very nice, clean, great water pressure in shower and a great view of the ocean, was definitely worth the extra couple dollars more! Room service was great and tended to your every need, almost seemed like the perfect vacation.
Tip:
- Eat out better than at hotel, prices are the same or better with better food than hotel. Food is poorly prepared by American's standards but paying American prices
- Buffet though a nice treat gets old because they offer no variety
- Night menu for in room service no good, limited choices for food that was "okay"
- Do not do your laundry at hotel, too much money due to high taxes from my uinderstanding from the front desk: here are some sample prices in pesos:
Blouses- 39.00, Brassiers- 20.00, Socks- 18.00, Underwear- 18.00, Shirt- 39.00, Shorts- 39.00, Skirts- 43.00
Based on those prices, you can easily rack up $100 US dollars for a handful of clothes. There is a laundrymat outside the hotel on the main street you can go to as an option but i am not sure of prices or carry enough for your stay.
- Take cab than the bus (5 pesos for cab, .50 pesos for bus). Bus ride is bad as they are in very poor condition and takes you only so far and you still have to walk where the cab can go further to your exact location
- If you need to take care of anything in person, better in the evening when its slow. Its my opinion but they show sign of urgency and often answer "YES" or "NO" than to say that they do not understand you. Just be patient as we are foreigners guys :)
Based on what i see, if you have kids, would be a good deal for all inclusive but otherwise, i would strongly recommend to go to town, there is so much to see, i like the quaint little shops and all, really cool to check out!
For those wanting a mix of Mexican/American food, there is a Chillis, Hooters, Subway and Starbucks (my favorite) down the street from the hotel (left outside the hotel about 1/4 mile on left).
Overall, this is a great great hotel, just small things to be aware of so you can make better choices while you are here. 9th floor is the way to go, great view, good service, impressive lobby. Oh yea, the beach was not kept up well, water was murky and rocky, bring rubber shoes or stick to pool.
I understand that most of the newer hotels are in Nuevo Villarta, on the north side further from downtown so that's worth checking out for next time.

“Great Experience at Fiesta Americana!”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

**Warning** this is going to be long -- hope people don't mind!

Preliminary details... Check in: Sunday, April 27, 2008, Check out: Friday, May 2, 2008. Room 915 (Fiesta Club Room), two double beds.

This past April, my mother turned 60 and so I decided to treat her and my dad to a week in Puerto Vallarta. None of us had ever been there before, but had heard great things about the area. We were not disappointed!

Arrived at the PV airport around 1pm local time. Be wary of the timeshare people after going through customs. Don't acknowledge these people and look for the official taxi purchase window just before the exit. There is also a money exchange place in the same area -- we got our initial pesos there. Think we paid about $18 for the taxi. The taxis leaving the airport are more expensive than the ones you find in town. Some of the reviews I read mentioned walking a little ways from the airport to find a yellow taxi. These taxis are much cheaper. We decided not to do that just to be on the safe side since we weren't familiar with the city. The next time I'm there, I will opt for the yellow taxi.

Arrived at the hotel around 1:30pm. Tried to check in at that time, but was told the room wasn't ready. Was told to come back in about an hour. So, we went out and walked around the area for a bit. Came back about 2:30 and inquired again. Room still wasn't ready. They said to come back in another hour. I was ok with that, figured it had something to do with the official check-in time being 3:30. When I came back the second time, the room was finally ready. My patience was rewarded because they gave us one of the best rooms in the place! Room 915 is on the top level with an awesome view of the beach, pool, and the Malecon (boardwalk in downtown PV). The room was very clean, with two double beds and a nice little balcony, perfect for viewing sunsets in the evening. Only problem my mom had with the room was there was no tub, only a shower. The room had air conditioning -- which kept the room plenty cool if desired. The shower smelt a little musty, but the rest of the room was fine.

We paid a little extra for our room on the Fiesta Club level. Not only was it worth it for the view, we also received a free continental breakfast along with snacks and drinks (cokes, bottled water, wine) the rest of the day.

The breakfast included cereal, fruit (strawberries, watermelon, canteloupe, mango), OJ, coffee, toast, various pastries, and yoplait yoghurt (both regular and the liquid drinking variety). It was quite a good breakfast and I would always eat my fill.

For lunch, we went into town a couple days and also ate at the hotel a couple days -- Chula Vista restaurant. On Monday we ate at this great Mexican food place in town called "Pipi's". The food was awesome and the margaritas were huge. I got the chicken enchiladas smothered in green chili sauce -- quite yummy! Very fun atmosphere, complete with a mariachi band that sings at your table.

On a side note -- be sure and do some shopping at the flea market in town -- fun to bargain with the vendors! Nice souvenirs here.

The Chula Vista restaurant was very good, also. I had a $100 credit at the hotel which I was able to apply toward food. The Tuesday special was asparagus soup, breaded chicken breast, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and caramel flan all for $14. Thought this was a pretty good deal. We ate here again on Thursday for lunch . The special was Red Snapper with rice and a kind of fruit pizza item for dessert. I didn't care much for their appetizer (octopus and shrimp something or other), so I asked to substitute chicken with rice soup for that. They obliged. It was all very good. This special was also $14.

For the days we ate a big lunch, we would usually just snack on the items in the fiesta club area for supper. Think some of these items may have been samplings from the main buffet at the Chula Vista in the evenings. On Monday evening they had steak pieces along with brown gravy. There were also plenty of fruits (usually the same as breakfast) as well as some veggies (including jicama strips and cucumber slices). Drinks included cokes (sprite, fanta, and coca-cola) and bottled water. There was also white and red wine. For dessert they usually had some yummy chocolates and cheesecake pieces. We had no trouble making this into a meal. Other evenings they had shishkabob (spell?), chicken, and fish as the main entree'.

Wednesday evening we decided to eat in town at the "El Arrayan". It was voted the best place to eat in Puerto Vallarta. Unlike Pipi's, it was only open for supper. We all got the steak and thought it was ok, but not worthy of "best in Puerto Vallarta". Perhaps that wasn't their specialty. I thought the empanada appetizers were incredible, however. They provided us with three different types of sauces to dip them in. The black sauce went well with the empanadas.

** On a related note -- be sure and take the buses and not the taxis into town. They are very inexpensive (5.5 pesos -- about 55 cents) and are quite entertaining. When you board the bus, be sure and take your seat quickly as the bus driver doesn't check to make sure people are ready!

Should make a note that cokes and water bottles are available at all times in the fiesta club area. They usually served cookies as well, from 11-2 each day.

The pool area was very nice, with ample chairs. We arrived after the spring break period, so it wasn't too crowded at all. It was easy to find a lounge chair at any time of the day. The beach itself was kind of small and rocky, but still quite beautiful. It was very relaxing to lay out on the beach and listen to the ocean. There were palapas covering some of the chairs so you could get as little or as much sun as you liked, while still enjoying the beach. It was interesting to watch the beach vendors walking along the beach selling their wares. I purchased a couple of small wooden turtles from one vendor. Be sure and do some bargaining with them -- it can be fun! If you aren't interested in something, just tell them no and they will move on.

I decided to treat myself to a massage on the beach. It was wonderful, although a little expensive. $80 for 50 minutes for the "Fiesta Americana" massage on the beach. There are some cheaper ones you can choose, but I decided to indulge a little. Ask for Isabel -- she is very good.

The hotel has a nice little fitness center with two stairmasters, two treadmills, and some free weights. It is $5 a day or $10 for 3 days. Interesting note -- while exercising one morning, we spotted a peacock nearby. We got a few pictures of him. Couldn't get him to open his tail, though.

I was very impressed overall with the service at this hotel. I could tell the employees took pride in working here. During the day, there were always maids sweeping the grounds, picking up leaves, cleaning off lounge chairs. One morning I saw a guy trimming a palm tree on the grounds. The maids did a wonderful job cleaning our room and would return in the evenings to provide fresh towels and chocolates. I tipped them daily.

The checkout process was a little prolonged as they had a little difficulty processing my $100 credit, but it did get resolved. To speed up the checkout -- be sure and have someone come up to check the minibar in your room about 30 minutes before. **Warning** Regardless of your meal plan, you will get charged for consuming the snacks/drinks in your room.

It was a sad time checking out from this hotel -- wished our stay could have been longer. Strongly recommend this hotel to others. Think you will love it!

“Awesome Service, Room & Location!”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

Great hotel and location! Rooms wee very clean and the club floor room is well worth it! Was very nice to have something quick in the morning and when coming back from tours. Service was excellent great to get service by the pool and beach. Food was great (except for the buffet). Seafood and Mexican food at the hotel was awesome.

Perhaps the only negative I can say about the hotel is the beach. It is rocky but I believe most are in PV.

Will post pics later

Amazing entrance into the hotel -which i can say there wasn't another hotel like that around. I never had any problems with the staff, cleaning staff, bar staff i found them all polite and helpful to me - i always had chocolates left on my bed a couple of nights it was pretty cold out, i had been horse riding for the day and found that the hotel staff had put the heater on for me on my arrival - i liked the boheim beer they had and i did venture in to all the resturants there inside and out and had no problems the food to me was yummy and i like the fact they had seafood and it was fresh - i had no down side to the hotel at all and didn't waste my time complaining as there was nothing to complain about all in all i'm going back to Mexico to PV and to F.A again - loved the shops inside the entrance cheap cab ride to centro - if my first time was great my second time should be even better - i'm definately getting a room with a view again -and loved the safe that's provided in the rooms.

“Disappointing”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

1 of 5 stars
Minnesota
Apr 20, 2008
1/4 found this review helpful

I had chosen this hotel because it had very good reviews overall. But the stay here was disappointing at best.

The Fiesta Americana had several inconsistancies right from the beginning. When we checked in for our 7-day stay, as most tourists we asked for a ocean view. The check-in attendant said, "you have a partial view of the ocean." When we arrived at the room and went out on the balcony we were greeted with the backside of a giant grass hut roof complete with pipes sticking out. It completely obscured the ocean view and most of the sky. This pretty much set the mood for the rest of the stay there.

A few days later a random staff memeber keyed into our room without knocking. When he saw that I was in the room, he said the front desk told him I needed something and sent him up. I didn't need anything and he left. When I called the front desk they didn't know anything about it.

One morning we decided to have breakfast at the Fiesta Americana instead of venturing out. The breakfast buffet had a nice spread of scrambled eggs, fruit, pancakes, bacon, etc. It was decent. It was also $20US per person.

We noticed that only sometimes we got fresh towels, turndown service, and chocolates in the evening. We thought this was tied to the amount of tip. When we inquired at the front desk, we were informed it was actually supposed to be happening every day regardless of tip. We tipped more anyway just in case. Didn't work.

The Fiesta Americana has the worst beach in our area. If you venture into the water, wear foot protection. Very rocky and painful. We ended up lounging on the beach at the next hotel over because it was better maintained.

On the day of check out, Fiesta Americana said that we owed an extra $100 for the minibar. This seriously disappointed us because we were speaking with exactly the same staff as when we checked in. We asked SPECIFICALLY if the $100 free credit with the hotel included the minibar. Then, the anwser was a decisive "Yes" from the staff. And now it was a decisive "No."

On the plus side, the rooms are very clean, comfortable and nicely maintained. The beds were firm and had two giant pillows along with two fluffy pillows.

I wouldn't recommend Fiesta Americana. Puerta Vallarta has many other places to stay that can provide excellent service as well as comfort.
