We just returned from Puerto Vallarta Plaza Pelicanos. Was nervous after reading the negative reviews. We found this to be a very nice place. The weather was perfect, Alex at the Concierge was always pleasant (Ricky Martin look alike), Rooms were cleaned daily, most of the people were very nice and helpful. Check-in went quick, we were in section II - Grand which was very nice. The grounds and pool were beautiful. In order to get a discount on the semi-inclusive (All inclusive did NOT include all Restaurants unless you went for a higher priced ALL INCLUSIVE) had to deal with a torturous 2 hour presentation for the discount. The buffet got old but the food was good. Saw a beautiful sunset, from our room. Walking through the Malecon was fun . Found great bargains at the Flea Market at the end of the Malecon. Though not much for kids to do outside of the resort unless they are very adventuous, The SeaLife Water Park was great fun for the kids. You are safe if you eat at the resort - a couple of friends did get sick from eating out in town but that can happen anywhere. Though there is always room for improvement. Definitely would return to the Plaza Pelicanos. P.S. lots of useful tips from this site were found from other reviews before our trip.

If you want a oceanview room you wont get it unless you attend a seminar for timesharing or pay alot extra. The ocean and all activities are a long walk way plus you have to go thru the lobby everytime and cross the street. The food was horrible. Been to alot of places this having the worst food. Waters are dirty and beaches rocky if you have a beach to walk on. No music at any of the pools. Will never go back. The only good thing about the whole place was the service of the staff was excellent, but that is not enough to make me ever go back.

This was our second spring break trip to PV and Plaza Pelicanos. We enjoyed seeing some of the same people this year that we had met last year and meeting new people. It seems like most of the vacationers are outgoing and love to visit - makes it really fun !

We stayed in the Grand Section, partial ocean view, and our room was clean and quiet. The maid service was excellent We found all of the other staff to be excellent and friendly - front desk, restaraunt help, and bartenders were all good.

The buffet was adequate. Drinks were good. The snack bar at the swim-up bar was very good with a little different offering each day. They had a Mexican Fiesta on Tues. night (which was part of the all-inclusive package)and the food was very good and it was a good show.

Transportation from the hotel is very easy. There are always cabs at the Front door and the average fare to downtown is about $6.00. A person can also walk out to the main avenue and catch a bus to just about anywhere in the PV area. And no reason to be hesitant of the bus system - anybody at the hotel will help and so will people on the street and fellow bus riders will help.

One note - we went over Easter and the week following. We found out that it was Mexico's spring vacation that week. There were many young Mexican spring breakers staying there and they kind of took the pool over in the afternoon and were a little loud for our liking. Lots of other Mexican families were enjoying their stay at the resort also. We had our own spring breakers with us though and they enjoyed meeting several young ladies staying at Pelicanos and everyone had a nice week together.

We loved the hotel we were in the grand side...all was great!!! the staff was awsome...would go again...was clean etc....great distance from town...all was good...
