Just returned from a week at Villas Vallarta in PV... first time visitors to PV so wasnt sure what to expect, have lots have friends that have been numerous times so there help in getting thru customs was a blessing... Villas Vallarta was marvelous the rooms were very clean, the bed was so comfortable had heard stories about hard beds and this was far from it, we stayed in room 818., food was average, i am a fussy eater and found something to eat everyday... waiters, front desk and cleaning staff were very helpful. very quiet at nite slept like a baby the whole time there... because we had access to Canto del sol we had double the fun ... beach was rocky some days but that was to be expected.... drinks kept coming and the food was everywhere...didn't do any excursions thought for the first time just going to check the town out we were busy every nite on the malecon.. did lots of walking and rode the bus numerous times truily enjoyed that venture...can't wait to go back only 11 more months to go....this time thinking of taking teenage children.. oh and we were there during spring break and never had any problems with any of the kids taht were there.. there were all ages there from teenagers to families with young children to the seniors

This was our third trip to P.V. and our second time at this resort.Of course, your first trip will always be remembered as the best ever.Although I can`t really say anything to negative about this resort as it is kept very clean, the staff are aweson, trying to help as much as they can,the food was o,k but was not hot enough and you can always go across the road for better things. We tried for months to book the room we wanted but was not allowed, even talked to the hotel directly but had no luck.Got stuck in the very last room at the hotel which was miles away from everything, took three days to get moved and still didn`t get the room we wanted but it was much closer to the pool. They no longer have any kind of entertainment or activities, you have to go across the road for this.It is very laid back and quiet which is great if you want this.We found it was cartered only for the seniors which it was mostly booked by.The beach is across the street but you have full acess to everything at Canta del Sol,the beach is full of rocks so just to go relax is great but to play in the waves, watch out,you will get hurt or cut in some way.We will always remember our first time here,it was aweson but will not go back as we know there are better resorts in P.V. with more to offer.

“Nothing but good things to say...”

Just returned last night from a week at Villas Vallarta, and are very happy with our experience there. We'd been booked into Canto del Sol, but they somehow over-booked so about a day before departure we were told our room was having to be switched to Villas Vallarta, which is all part of the same complex. We were initially somewhat disappointed, but since we were offered a good discount for the inconvenience and last-minute change and were offered the full amenities of Canto del Sol, we went ahead - and are glad we did! Once we saw how laid-back and quiet Villas Vallarta was compared to the much larger Canto Main, we were more than happy to be staying there. We would go over to the Canto to beach walk and experience the crashing waves, but during the heat of the day we'd return to the pool area of the Villas, which was smaller and a much more intimate atmosphere to relax in. The younger crowd would not likely appreciate the Villas as much as the +40 somethings, since they'd want to meet their peers and strut their stuff, for which the more boisterous Canto del Sol is better suited. We found the variety and quality of food at the Villas to be equal to the Canto, and the availability of drinks was better at the Villas because there was never any line-up due to the much smaller clientele at Villas. Both Villas Vallarta and Canto del Sol are situated very well, with all sorts of shops in the immediate area, and old downtown and the Malecon only a half hour or so walk from these hotels. The staff were most accomodating, and we had no problems with check-in or check-out, or in getting things needed e.g hair dryer. Both Villas and Canto main were clean, well-maintained, and with good security. We had a great holiday there, and would definitely recommend the Villas Vallarta to our friends. There is nothing to complain about unless you think you deserve 5 star service when you're only paying for 3-4 star service.

“Decent but not great...”

Villas Vallarta by Canto del Sol

Mar 2, 2008

I stayed at Villas Vallarta for a week in February and it was a good experience but did have a few drawbacks. First off, Villas Vallarta and Canto del Sol are one in the same property, just two buildings. If you are staying at Villas you have full access to the amenities at Canto. The buffet and snack bar menu is always the same at both places, just usually less crowded at Villas.

First the good: The hotel is in a great location as far as being accessible to other things. It took me 30 minutes to walk to the boardwalk and would have only been a $5 taxi ride if I hadn't wanted the expeince of exploring by walking there. There are several shops located in the direct vicinty of the hotel where you can pick up jewelry or souveniers. There is also a very large grocery store about a five minute walk south from the hotel where you can get anything you need. I found a great litte restaraunt about 2 blocks south of the hotel. Not sure of the name but it had gates across the front and was an open air building and the food was incredible. The hotel itself was pretty good. I am a very picky eater but never went hungry during my stay. The buffet had plenty of choices and while I do have to say that some of them didn't look too appetizing served buffet style once I tried them the flavor was great. The bartenders are extremely generous with the booze when they are making drinks. The chips, beef tacos and cheeseburgers at the snack bar were great. The staff was incredible. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful and often wanted to chat for just a minute to see if you liked the hotel, Puerto Vallarta and just to get to know you. The waiters went out of their way to make sure you had drinks while dining and were especially friendly. Leave a one or two dollar tip for their help and you will get incredible service all week. You get full access to the amenities at Canto del Sol so I could choose which building I ate at for each meal. The food was always the same but I found that Villas was much less crowded during meals. The activities staff at Canto were amazing. Jerry and his buddies that worked the poolside activities each day kept the laughter flowing and everyone entertained. Very charismatic and engaging group and they made it a lot of fun. At night, the shows were a little corny but still very entertaining.

The bad: The walls in the rooms at Villas are very thin and the bathroom is against the exterior wall for the hallways with an opque slatted window that does not fully close. So, as you walked down the hallway, you could hear everything going on in the bathrooms. You could hear the showers running and even smell the different soaps that people were using. The air conditioner doesn't have a temperature setting that cycles on and off to regulate the temp. You can chose from high, medium, low or just plain off. Whatever setting you put it on, it stays that way, running all the time until you change the setting. I had to leave it on at night to keep the room from getting too warm but then even on low, I ended up being very cold during the night. You can hear people coming back late at night and when the staff shows up in the morning around 7 you can hear them moving around. The pool at Villas is very small but usually not very crowded. I spent most of my time at Canto and the pool there gets very crowded. People were coming out early in the morning and putting shoes, towels and books on chairs in prime spots and then not coming back for hours if not all day. There are signs up asking people to not reserve chairs but they get ignored. It got so bad one day that there were no open chairs and I went to the snack bar and came back to find that the people that had been sitting next to me for a few hours were about to dump my stuff off my chair and take it. I think this was the most annoying part of the experience for me. I am used to smaller hotels that cater to divers and have never had trouble getting a chair before. The only other drawback to the hotel is the beach. There is a very small beach with a few palapas on it and those go quickly each morning. The tide changes the beach line drastically each day. There is a good wide beach space in the morning but it climbs higher each hour until around sundown there is room for one row of chairs and that is it. The water tosses rocks all over the beach one day and takes them all away the next so you never know if it will be sand or rocks. The undertow is way too strong to really get in the water here. Only a small handful of drunk people attempted it and those attempts lasted only a few short minutes. The hotel can't do anything about it, It is on the Pacific Ocean after all. Just don't think that you will be going someplace with clear calm water you can swim or snorkel in.

Overall I enjoyed my week but I think I will be headed back to the Cozumel area next time for a quieter vacation with calmer water. If you are looking for a vacation where you hang out poolside and have lots of activites going on this is the place for you. Plenty to entertain you during the day, good food and drinks lots of people to watch.

“Had so much fun at Villas Vallarta”

Villas Vallarta by Canto del Sol

I haven't been away in about three years, and wanted to go back to P.V in a bad way. My boyfriend was taking his first trip anywhere warm so I wanted to take him here. I booked online so I was a bit worried cause the price for the trip was great but so so reviews for this hotel.
At first when we drove up I didn't know what to expect but as soon as we were greeted I felt ok about the place. Everyone very friendly and helpful. Our first night wasn't great cause they gave us a room right over Golds Gym, so at 7am you can hear the music blaring and the guy screaming. I asked to be moved to another room and they did, pool view with patio doors. We were allowed to use Canto Del Sol as well it was great. Food wise breakfast great, buffett I am not really into, the two al cart restaurants Mexican and steak house were great!
Just watch for the time share people they fool you into thinking they work for Hotel, the only people in the lobby that do is the front desk. But it really was great!!!!
