“we had a great time. Location and Friendly staff!!!!”

Playa Del Sol Los Muertos Beach

5 of 5 stars
Chicago area
Mar 3, 2008

we had booked at another hotel, that was totally unacceptable...

we stayed at the Playa del sol before, and just on a whim, we decided to see if they had a last minute room.

When we walked in Ms. Lourdes recognized us and after explaining our situation, was instantly on the phone to see what she could offer. Within minutes, not only did we have an ocean front room, at a reasonable price, but she was able to help us transfer smoothly from our other hotel. Thank you again, Lourdes!!

The room was spectacular, roomy comfortable with a washer and dryer and full kitchen, balcony, two bathrooms that have some wear, but were very clean. We just wished we had booked here instead of that other hotel.

Carlos, who works the night desk, was also very friendly and helped us find the places we wanted to go. Any small problem we mentioned was instantly taken care of, (including how to work the washing machine...)cheerfully and with a smile. Not only from the front desk, but from the maintenance, security, and housekeeping. What a pleasant stay!
Do be careful of timeshare sales, though. With the economy the way it is, they are very eager, and are not above bogus promises to get you to sign.

“Awful”

My wife and I are seasoned travelers. This hotel is no more than a 2 star Hotel, at best. The pictures they advertise are no where near what you see when you get there. The buildings across the street from the entrance look bombed out, like in Berlin circa 1945. The first room they gave us took 3 flights to reach, no elevator. We moved to another room. That one had an A/C that was so noisy we couldn't sleepand there was water leaking from the ceiling in the hallways. The pool is small and very, very green ( Algae). The restaurant was awful. Although the beach is nice, the vendors on the beach drive you crazy selling stuff. The staff was cordial, but the place itself is not in good shape. We found that the rooms that face the beach are occupied by condominium owners, so their availablity to a visitor is low. This is a timeshare condominium facilty, not a Hotel in a true sense. Do yourself a favor- Don't go there.

“A Dump!”

I just watched 60 minutes, so I took the time to check out what has been said about the hotel/condo unit my daughters and I stayed in last summer, I cant believe the ratings,

This is a two star at best. Dirty, My daughter took pictures of the moldy, bug infested mattress. We asked for it to be replaced and they brought a dirty foam topper. She slept on the sofa.
We were told the room would sleep 4, when it could sleep 2. so we had to upgrade(at add"l cost)

I could go on about how bad it was, but you get the idea!

I would not go back for free.

“Nice location! Accommodations are just okay.”

Playa Del Sol Los Muertos Beach

We stayed eight days at the Playa del Sol and had a nice time. We had unit 601A and it's a nice unit for up to 4 people. I highly recommend using an agency to rent out a unit at this or any other time share type property. We used pvrpv and they were able to secure the exact unit that we wanted on the ocean front side of this property. When I contacted the reservations desk directly, they weren't able to offer me a better rate or a guaranteed ocean front room.

The facilities were safe and mostly clean. I suspect that every unit is different in terms of quality of furnishings/fixtures. Unit 601A needs some updating in terms of furniture and bedding but it was acceptable. The balcony furniture was terrible/unusable and desperately needs to be replaced. The pool was marginal -- it had some mold around the outside edges that could easily be cleaned up by the staff with a simple daily scrub. There's no in-room safe, but there are deposit boxes available. They did attempt to sell us the time-share option, but we just politely declined and it wasn't a problem. Note that the September heat is really oppressive!

Overall, this is a great location and the oceanfront rooms are quiet and have wonderful views and easy beach access. Try the Kit Kat Club for breakfast. It's wonderful and just a block away.

“Beware of scam tactics”

Playa Del Sol Los Muertos Beach

I am an owner at Playa del Sol. I purchased a timeshare in 2002, not knowing what I was getting myself into. I have since discovered that much of what I was told during the sales presentation was not true. I was told I could easily resell my timeshare, and given a list of companies to help with that - these all turned out to be frauds. I was told that I could rent my weeks, but it turns out that I have to pay in order to do that and in the end, barely make back my yearly maintenance fee. But the final straw happened when I called to book some weeks for friends who want to come to PV while I am there in June '08. I was told that they are no longer accepting reservations for Playa del Sol Los Muertos. When I said that I already had a reservation, I was told that it has since been taken off the market. I have since been told that they are renovating the property and do not want to inconvenience guests with the noise - but, I AM STAYING THERE! I was told that they are not accepting new reservations, but was offered the option of renting nights for my friends at the regular rental rate of over $180 per night! There never seems to be an end to the surprises with Playa del Sol. I'd stay away from them, and check carefully for other complaints online. Better to go with a timeshare company that has a decent reputation and does not allow these kinds of practices.
