“Average place for a condo”

My family and I recently returned from a 5 night stay at Marina Sol in Cabo. We booked this condo based on a friend’s recommendation and so I knew it was a condo unit and NOT a hotel. We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit and found it to be neat and clean, just like staying in an apartment. The Marina Sol has very good security, locked entrances to the common areas as well as locked entrances to each individual patio and condo. Pool and restaurant were nice and clean. The grounds were well maintained. I found the staff to be friendly. The Marina Sol has a small mini-mart which was perfect for purchasing, bottled water, pop, beer, and small snack foods as well as having internet access. Location is GREAT - a 2 block walk right to Medano beach and the Mango Deck/The office. The only problem we had was at check out - we had a $25 phone charge that you could tell was an incomplete phone number - and they said they couldn't do anything about it - that I had to pay it. Based on the poor customer service I received over the phone bill I would hesitate to recommend this place, however having traveled in Mexico I know how frustrating AND inaccurate the phone bills can be.

“Alot of fun”

Marina Sol Resort

Jul 3, 2006

We just returned from Marina Del Sol, Unit 511 staying June 25th to July 1st, 2006. The situation was a family reunion, so I saw Unit 507 and 504 also. This is not a super resort, but an above average condo complex with units that vary in quality depending on the owner. Our place was small, but doable since we are a couple with one small child.

We shared the bedroom and they provided an air mattress with linens for our daughter.

Unit 511 is bigger and fit 4 adults with 1 preteen. Unit 504 has a double bed and a twin in one bedroom. The AC was good in all units except 504. There are furnished kitchens (distelled water coolers) in all so pack some coffee and soup. There is also a mini market downstairs, but not anything to make a true meal out of. I went to the grocery downtown (by Margarita Village) and bought bread and lunchmeat, $6 taxi ride back.

The pool was nice size with nearby bathrooms and a restaurant. Look for the free drink coupon that they give you when registering.

First the negative. This is Mexico. It is hot and humid in the summer months. The service is slower than in the US, so relax, you are on vacation. If you don't check in by 7pm, they leave a key for you , so if you need an air mattress call before or wait until morning. Groceries are expensive, check the prices before you buy, corn flakes at the market were $7.

The positive, the pool restaurant is good and well priced. The massage I got at the spa there was awesome, better than any four-star place in Scottsdale. The Medano beach at Mango's/The Office is rowdy and fun. Lots of good music, plenty of water sports, cheap beer buckets, yummy nachos (try the steak and use up your cholesterol allotment for the rest of the year). The vendors can get annoying, but they'll negotiate better on the beach than in town. Get a henna tattoo, I love mine, though I can't commit to a real tattoo. Watch out for the tequila shot man, he'll have you passed out in no time. He also makes balloon animals, that seem like a good idea, but if you are a parent, you already know how sad the ending can be.

Some restaurants we liked were Nick San (AC and fancy) and Marisquería Mazatlán (no AC and cheap). Mi Casa, a block away was good the first night and not so good the second time, but has some amazing Day of the Dead stuff in their gift shop.

Some fun activities. I loved the Banana boat ride at Medano beach. It is fast, so kids under 10 might fall off. We went for $9 each. The jet skis are fun and we took our 4 year old, very slowly. 40 minutes, for $40 and she loved it. The Buckaneer pirate ship was fun. We got a deal for $50 per adult with a free kid under 10, but I bet there are better deals if you book ahead online. They dance and sing and really entertain you. Lunch is yucky brown tuna sandwiches, but the bloody marys are good. You can buy a better boxed lunch at a deli near the pier for $10. it comes with a huge sandwich (enough for two), apple, chips, and veggies+ dip. Plus you snorkel, so you get the Pirate atmosphere and the snorkeling in one shot. I didn't go to Lover's Beach which is a Water Taxi away from Medano beach, but my relatives did and they said to stay for one hour since there is little shade.Overall, a good place to meet up with friends or relatives from all budgets. If you are looking for luxury, I would say the One and Only Palmilla. But this place served our needs and we had a really fun time.

“Enjoy Marina Sol”

We have stayed at Marina Sol a few times. It is a condominium complex with 5 buildings and the units are privately owned therefore are individually decorated and maintained. There are many residents who live there year round. The "A" building is a high rise with more rooms and some of the rooms are smaller. The buildings B, C, D, E are smaller (3 stories), but the condos can be more spacious and quieter.

This is not a party place. It is peaceful and low key with a nice pool and resturaunt. The location is wonderful, just a short walk to the beach in one direction and shopping in the other direction. We go with our family (2 young kids) and enjoy it every time. It has more of a feeling of an upper end condominium residence than a hotel or timeshare.

“scary place.........”

this place looks nice online but when you get there it is a diffrent story. the walls of the resort are very thin and sound travels very loudly, you can here people on all floors of this place. this resulted in our condo being confused with another that was being very loud and our power getting shut off. they will literally shut off your power! this being our first trip to mexico, it made us feel very unsafe and like we were in a third world country. none of the security guards were very helpful or even trying to explain what happened except the we were being loud and they turned off our power. the front desk closes at 7:00 pm so we had no choice but to call it a night. the next day our power was still turned off, including no air conditioning or fan, and we went down to talk to the front desk personell. they said when the guard turned off our power he broke the breaker and they were trying to fix it. about 3 hours later we had our power back. then, instead of knocking on our door and personally handing us a letter, one was slipped under our door that stated guards were allowed to turn of your power with no notice if you are being loud, like we didnt already know. we again tried to talk to the property managment about the situation of them having the wrong condo but it basically got nothing accomplished. for the money we spent to stay there a week and be treated like 18 year old "spring breakers" was a blow to our whole vacation and i would not recommend this resort to my worst enemy.

“traveler beware, web sites do a great job”

Just returned from a week in Cabo, which is beautiful! Booked a condo at Marino Sol. Big Mistake!!! There are no employees to greet you or help with the luggage which you drag up seven steps. Upon check in, you pay an additional $25.00 to "register". The condo was privately owned and although decorated nicely had no view. It overlooked a parking lot and the back of a mall which is currently under construction. Apparently, only the front condos have a view of the harbor. The walk to the beach is not a half block (which they told us) but more like two, over unpaved, dusty roads. The master bath was large enough as was the bath. It had a sulfur/sewer smell. There is virtually no hot water or water pressure. One of the fastest shower I've ever taken. The remote to the television did not work and could only get one channel. The deli is way overpriced compared to other places. Couldn't get a refund but we cut our losses and checked out the next day. We stayed in an absolutely beautiful hotel on the beach and within walking distance to downtown. There are many really nice beachfront hotel so do some checking and don't always believe those web sites.
