We just got back from 8 great days at the Melia Cabo Real. We arrived on Saturday, 4/23 at about 1:30PM and checked in with no problem. As I work in a hotel we got an upgrade to a oceanview room. They said our room would be ready at 3:00 so we sat at the pool bar and had lunch and a beer while we waited. Eduardo at the pool bar is the best, he took great care of us all week. We called from the bar at 3:00 and our room was ready, we were in 3308 which looked out over the pool area with a view of the ocean. It was clean and well maintained. I loved the bathroom with the toilet set off to the side by itself. A couple times during the week I left the maid a note with a few dollars and we always had extra towels and bottled water.
1. The food: The buffet at dinner was good, we stuck mostly with the items being cooked to order and were never disappointed. The salmon was great on our first night, we had delicious pork roast another night, pasta one night, flank steak another. We also ate at the alacarte restaurant one night and it was very good we had steak and coconut shrimp and the ceasar salad. Service was impecable. The breakfast buffet was excellent each morning with great eggs and omlettes made to order. Lunch at the poolside grill as also good.
2. Entertainment - The events by the pool were good if that is your kind of thing, but we mostly laid in the sun. It was a nice mix of aerobics, water volleyball and different games each day. The evening show was poor but the karioke nights were fun in the lobby bar. We attended the beach party twice while we were there which featured a live band, limbo contest, couples contests, etc. Who can complain when your sitting on the beach eating, drinking and being entertained?
3. Golf - We played Eldorado once and Cabo Real twice. I have to say it might have been the most beautiful golf we have ever played. Expensive but worth it, we played twilight twice to save some money and splurged one morning for a 7:30 AM tee time and we had the whole course to ourselves for the first three holes. It was a great destination for golf.
4. Town - We went into town on two nights. We took the 7PM free shuttle from the hotel and took cabs back, $25.00, somehow we were always having too much fun to catch the last shuttle back at 11:00PM. Squid Roe was our favorite, followed by Cabo Wabo and Gigglin Marlin. We had a great dinner at Margaritavilla, outside on the deck being serenaded by the marichia's. Great food, terrific margaritas and excellent service. IT was perfect.
5. Service in the hotel was great. Everyone with the exception of the lobby bartender was wonderful, pleasant and helpful. The lobby bartender was the worst, but there is always one bad able.
Summary: I guess the best way to say it is that I would definitly go back in a heartbeat. I wish there were more ala carte restaurants, and more live dance music in the lobby but other than that it was perfect. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Please don't worry about the negative reviews this is a wonderful hotel.
