“Bad Reviews Unfounded! Fear Not!”

I read some negative reviews, so I had little expectations. Ignore it, this place is very nice, with all marble bathrooms. It was a big hotel for the amount of rooms. It never was crowded anywhere you went- plenty of loungers at the pool and no cattle line at lunch and dinner. Pool area is lovely and having breakfast overlooking the ocean can't be beat. Food is pretty good, not excellent, BUT NOT TERRIBLE! Don't bother going to the 'fancy sit down restaurant', you are better off at the buffet. ALL staff is very nice and friendly, they drinks are strong and they will serve you all night. I was surprised that guests were not taking advantage of the buffet and free drinks. (I expected to see more drunk fat people!) Take the free shuttle to Cabo San Lucas and walk around the shopping mall, marina and take a $10 boat trip around Land's End. At night in Cabo- go to Squid Roe at 10pm and you are guaranteed to be dancing on a table and having the time of your life by 11pm. The whole place is relaxed and fun so all you can have it is a good time. Remember, this is not USA, do not expect USA service, but for Mexico it is very good.

I went with some girlfriends to celebrate our 40th birthday and found this hotel to be absolutely fabulous! Rooms are spacious and very clean, and very nice. Lots of room in the shower and bathroom too. Very quiet. We thought the service was wonderful. Loved the ability to eat and drink and not pay the bill! Go for the all-inclusive. Free drinks include smoothies! The only downfall I can think of is that they only serve Coke and Fresca for soda. Could use a late night snack bar for munchies. The view is gorgeous! Not crowded at all (stayed Wed-Sat) in May. Very nice staff and the guests were all very sociable. Swim up bar in shade! Bonus! Be sure and take part of the water aerobics every day! ENjoy!

“Not impressed”

Overall we were disappointed with the front desk, very disorganized, no record of our reservation even though I had called two days earlier to confirm. The food was average but the most annoying thing by far was the constant poolside games/MC yelling into a microphone and random music from poolside speakers ie, Gwen Stephani followed by the Who and then merengue. Not at all relaxing- a good place to go if you yearn for the days of college Spring Break. A dissapointment for a usually repectable hotel chain.

“The Cabo Diet”

Stayed at the Melia Cabo Real for a business meeting with 12 other managers, our first official corporate retreat gathering folks from Portland, Seattle and Nashville and it turned into a literally sick experience. I will give praise to the staff for being helpful with a medical emergency we experienced, they did help us to get medical assistance and seemed concerned. The pool bar staff was very friendly, beautiful pool and beach experience. The beach peddlers were kind of a bother and made you avoid the beach.

The room was very run down, ours had a bad refridgerator, not cold ever, the closet door was hanging off, the hairdryer sounded like it would explode, the bathroom had no ventilation which proved very bad when half of our folks turned out sick and were in the bathroom with no vent...bad news. The beds were hard as rocks. A very large hole in the top of our closet made you alittle scared to go to sleep. Lots of walking to the main lobby from the 3rd building. Phone calls were not convenient and most calling cards did not work with their system.

The buffet outside was exposed to birds that flew around freely landing on everything and eating the left over food on peoples plates. Lots of flies. Don't eat anything that is exposed. We focused on packaged foods, and grilled foods we could see get cooked. The bottled water was misleading, I think that is the main target of my illness. I am being tested now for parasites. Half of us were sick on the second day, fourth day I fell out with fever and diahrea, very bad. Made for a bad plane ride. Now we are all on anti-biotics and I am being further tested.

Needless to say, it was not a good trip. Very bad taxi experience, got us lost two vans full of folks and then charged us for the ride. Airport shuttle was late, not the hotels fault but made us late for customs which took an hours minimum to get in to gate. Give yourself plenty of time, as they do hands on search of all of your luggage.

Sorry to report this hotel was not good, if you go, bring lots of Immodium AD/ Fever medicine and suggest bringing your own bottled water and packaged snacks. Exchange your cash at the airport as you will have to find a teller on your own as well.

Suggest a different resort, one that is more focused on comfort, cleanliness and eatable food. When you purchase all inclusive you expect to be able to eat at the hotel. I lost 7 pounds the hard way...Cabo Diet no fun.

“8 Glorious Days at the Melia”

Melia Cabo Real All-Inclusive Beach & Golf Resort

We just got back from 8 great days at the Melia Cabo Real. We arrived on Saturday, 4/23 at about 1:30PM and checked in with no problem. As I work in a hotel we got an upgrade to a oceanview room. They said our room would be ready at 3:00 so we sat at the pool bar and had lunch and a beer while we waited. Eduardo at the pool bar is the best, he took great care of us all week. We called from the bar at 3:00 and our room was ready, we were in 3308 which looked out over the pool area with a view of the ocean. It was clean and well maintained. I loved the bathroom with the toilet set off to the side by itself. A couple times during the week I left the maid a note with a few dollars and we always had extra towels and bottled water.

1. The food: The buffet at dinner was good, we stuck mostly with the items being cooked to order and were never disappointed. The salmon was great on our first night, we had delicious pork roast another night, pasta one night, flank steak another. We also ate at the alacarte restaurant one night and it was very good we had steak and coconut shrimp and the ceasar salad. Service was impecable. The breakfast buffet was excellent each morning with great eggs and omlettes made to order. Lunch at the poolside grill as also good.

2. Entertainment - The events by the pool were good if that is your kind of thing, but we mostly laid in the sun. It was a nice mix of aerobics, water volleyball and different games each day. The evening show was poor but the karioke nights were fun in the lobby bar. We attended the beach party twice while we were there which featured a live band, limbo contest, couples contests, etc. Who can complain when your sitting on the beach eating, drinking and being entertained?

3. Golf - We played Eldorado once and Cabo Real twice. I have to say it might have been the most beautiful golf we have ever played. Expensive but worth it, we played twilight twice to save some money and splurged one morning for a 7:30 AM tee time and we had the whole course to ourselves for the first three holes. It was a great destination for golf.

4. Town - We went into town on two nights. We took the 7PM free shuttle from the hotel and took cabs back, $25.00, somehow we were always having too much fun to catch the last shuttle back at 11:00PM. Squid Roe was our favorite, followed by Cabo Wabo and Gigglin Marlin. We had a great dinner at Margaritavilla, outside on the deck being serenaded by the marichia's. Great food, terrific margaritas and excellent service. IT was perfect.

5. Service in the hotel was great. Everyone with the exception of the lobby bartender was wonderful, pleasant and helpful. The lobby bartender was the worst, but there is always one bad able.

Summary: I guess the best way to say it is that I would definitly go back in a heartbeat. I wish there were more ala carte restaurants, and more live dance music in the lobby but other than that it was perfect. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Please don't worry about the negative reviews this is a wonderful hotel.
