The Coast Plaza in Vancouver is located on the West Side of the city. The hotel is overlooking the English Bay. We booked through the internet, and they gave us a suite. Our room had a full kitchenette, a living room with a pull out couch, and a great view. The hotel is not quite in downtown, but it is about a 15-20 minute walk to all the great shops. Taking public transportation or a cab, it takes half the time. The food on Denman street where the hotel is at is amazing, all kinds of food for cheap. It was great, we ate mostly around the hotel the whole time because there were so many choices and the prices were incredible. The staff was really helpful throughout the entire trip, they always helped with taxies, gave us maps and told us exact directions and how to use the public transportation. The room was always clean when we returned for the day, and it is great for staying longer than 3 days because since there is a kitchen you can buy a few groceries to get through the trip. Great experience and would definetely stay there again.

This was the last stay on our trip, and what a great way to end it. There have been reviews about the 'tired' decor, but whilst there are older parts to the hotel, old light switches, old cupboards and decorating, this was a great hotel with a really comfortable feeling to it. The important areas, the reception, the staff, the incredibly comfortable beds, the incredble view of Stanley Park, the brand new kitchen in the suite, the level of cleanliness and the great location more than made up for some old fixtures. This hotel should not be dismissed because of some aged features. The mall with market under the hotel was fab, the location for Stanley Park (which is amazing) and of course the cupcake shop just round the corner ( which was worth every penny, try the carrot cake one!) made this a great stay. I would come back if I return to Vancouver.

“Amazing Hotel!!”

My mother, brother and I were on a "budget" trip to Seattle and Vancouver, but since we saved so much on our hotel in Seattle, we decided to splurge a little and booked a superior suite for a little under $200 a night. We had two double beds in their own bedroom, a pull out couch, dining area, full kitchen, two TVs and a balcony with an amazing view of the mountains and English Bay. The hotel has an awesome location, where everything is within walking distance. The restaurants are amazing, have a variety of pricing, and are everywhere. The staff at the Coast Plaza was fast and friendly. The only drawback is parking costs about $20 a day (I'm still not used to this practice of charging for my car to spend the night too).

Oh, and we were there during Gay Pride Weekend (end of July), which kind of freaked my brother out, but I didn't mind. So for those you who are, unfortunately, homophobic a bit, avoid this time of the year, as there is a Gay Pride Parade that marches directly in front of the hotel, there are gay weddings on the premises and all the bars close by fly rainbow flags. It was alot of fun, though being in an elevator with my mom and a pleather-clad dominatrix was quite a comical experience. If you can hang, just look at it as part of the local flair and go with it!

I will definitely be back (August 2007, I think) and absolutely can't wait.

“Great deal --- If you love bugs, that's is.”

Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites

We got a great deal from hotwire to stay at the Coast. At first, we we were awed by the location -- really close to the Stanley Park and so close to a lot of nice restaurants in the area.

However, after I tried to move a bed stand to access an outlet, I noticed a bunch of digusting bugs hidden behind the bed.... i initially thought I was jsut unlucky to get a room with bugs. I called the front saying I could not get a good wireless connection from my room (which was true, by the way. This hotel announces wireless internet, but connections are at very low power).

The staff was always great. They immediately moved me to a new room with wired internet (I assume just a few rooms have this type of commection in this hotel). However, after just one day I could see bugs in this room as well!!! other than I bringing them with me (which did not happen), I assume this hotel is merely infested. This is very unfortunate, since this hotel has great servicde and location.

We got an incredible deal from an internet company, so we did not think about getting out from this hotel. other than that, this was a a great place to stay.

“Great deal”

I stayed here one night in 8/06. The reservation was made for my by West Coast Air because I had them package a deal that included a water plane flight (also recommended). For a "standard" hotel I thought it was a great deal. The room I got was large and comfortable with a great view of downtown. The front desk staff were very good and helpful. Even though they had a huge tours checking in and out, everything ran smoothly. I loved the location; it was easy to walk around the west end. Will definitely stay again my next trip to Vancouver.
