“Reasonable Stay, No Magic”

Suites at 1 King West

Stayed here for 5 nights in late July on our honeymoon first leg. Mixed bag, but reasonable experience.

Pro
- Hotel location was excellent for the main shopping area and entertainment district
- Use of the Classic Car service was a bonus
- Good internet facilities. 3 terminals free to use. These can get busy.
- Reasonable standard of facilities within the room

Cons
- Paid for a Tower One Bedroom Suite, but upon presentation realised this couldn't have been the right room based on their web site's photos. Also didn't have a safe - which was a concern - had someone walked off with it?? Asked to change rooms and was given a Historical One Bedroom Suite (due to lack of availability in the Tower). Much better (from a space perspective), but still not as pleasant as the photographs. Disappointing view relative to the higher floors.
- Had to pay $4 service charge for delivery of their $2 washing pack and then there was expectation of a tip on top! Why wasn't this included in the first place??
- Lifts are very slow. In the end I was happy to have a historic room as it meant I didn't have to wait so long for the lift!
- Air conditioning noisy
- Inconsistent service - example, informed front office I didn't want to receive the "Globe and Mail" newspaper as I noticed you would be credited ~$1.5 (I wasn't going to read it so thought it would be a good idea!). Despite my request, I continued to receive the paper. Contacted the front desk again, who acknowledged I shouldn't be receiving the paper. Again continued to receive the newspaper! On the last day I noticed I hadn't been credited. Phoned front desk and was informed that the paper was actually complimentary and even though the keycard documentation said I could be credited, I wouldn't be. Then 10min later had a phone call explaining that I would be credited. Although this is a very minor issue, I've raised it as an example of the inconsistent service you receive, largely due to which staff member you speak to. This seems to be because of the staff turnover. The first staff member I asked questions responded that they didn't know since they had only just started here (July isn't exactly the start of the season!).
- DVD library selection is really poor - I counted 5 DVDs!!
- The room cleaner decided to throw out a bag of bathroom products (no explanation or reason given!)
- No 'extra' effort made despite informing them we were on our honeymoon!

“Nice but not exceptional”

We were allocated a room in the 'Historic Wing'. Overall I was quite disappointed as the room was very dark and quite small considering I was expecting a Suite. It was no bigger than a standard hotel room with a very small kitchenette squeezed in. I requested that we be moved to a room in the 'Tower' wing (especially as the air con unit kept us awake during the first night) however despite moving rooms we had to stay in the historic wing. The room was a bit better, very clean, but still small and dark. Hotel location was excellent for the main shopping area and there were loads of good restaurants within a few minutes walk. I think I would look to stay in a different hotel if I was to return to Toronto.

Well just got back from a 5 day stay at Suites , as described by previous posts , check in was an issue we reached the hotel around 1 tried to get an early check but this was not to be had to come back at 3 ,, so went to do some exploring in the mean time . Came back at 3 was told to come back in 20min did do so and got a room . even this was a bit of a hassel as i had to choose between a queen bed in a high floor with a view or a king bed in a low floor with a view of the city ( which i choose ).

Room was comfortable , compact and clean

The location was good for shopping , eating and close to all the major sites

Guest services we re very attentative , called 1 am to arrange an early morning pick up to the airport amd got a very pleasant voice ( hard to believe for the time ).

All queries we had (sites , resturants etc were well advised and handled )

Amazing hotel

Room was spacious (room 1706) with washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge and stove top. Bathroom had large tub as well as seperate stand up shower.

If possible I suggest you request the 17th floor. There are only a total of 6 rooms on this floor along with the fitness centre. Why did we love this floor:
1. Less rooms mean less noise (barely heard a sound the whole 4 days we were there).
2. Fitness centre across the hall with two VERY large hot tubs, and 2 saunas. Being on this floor meant knowing when the hot tubs were empty (which was most of the time) thus we could just walk across the hall and jump in.
3. Need clean towels?? Walk across the hall to the fitness centre and pick up some clean ones from the locker room.

I found the staff here amazing. Several times we ended up in the elevator with staff who immediately struck up conversation about our trip.

Location: SMACK DAB DOWNTOWN TORONTO. You are about a 1 minute walk to the hockey hall off fame, 15 minutes walk from the CN Tower and Roger Centre (aka Skydome) and you are actually on Yonge Street (coner of Yonge and King West), the longest street in Canada where you will find everything you could possibly need.

If someone said I had to come up with 1 negative the only thing I could say was the elevators seemed a bit slow... but it is a 49 floor hotel. Beside that this was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in and I do a lot fo travelling.

Check out my photos

“Great hotel... but bring a torch!”

Initially we were given a room with a great view but only 1 bed. No good for 1 adult and 2 kids so back to reception where they happily gave us a bigger suite (no view this time!) The suite had everything you need and for £295 for 4 nights I was very impressed. The location is ideal and the free limo service is great for the CN tower and Union Station.
My only problem with the hotel is the fact that the room was dark. Really dark. Turn all the lights on, open the door and still have to feel your way around dark.
Don't be put off. It's still worth a visit.
