We stayed at Inn by the Lake by accident...meaning we had been in Reno visiting our son, planning the next day to drive to Lee Vining and cross Tioga Pass into Yosemite, which pass had been opened two days before. Well, the snow came back and they closed the pass again.
So we decided South Lake Tahoe, and then what?
I checked on the web and chose Inn by the Lake to call. This was a Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend, and I was sure we would be out of luck, but they found us a room.
We were very pleased when we arrived the next day and found a fairly large complex right across the road from the lake. We asked about a lake view room and the clerk upgraded us with no charge. During check in she also informed us that there was a computer for guest use in the lobby and they had free WiFI as well.
When I expressed interest in that and said I had my laptop with me she actually suggested that we might want to post a review of Trip Advisor before or after we left. !!!
We were in the "pool building", in a third floor room directly above the pool. The room was one of the larger hotel rooms I have stayed in, with a separate sitting area and a desk/table and a wet bar with microwave and refirigerator and coffee maker. I would say more than 400 square feet.
This is a family friendly hotel and there were a lot of families, with children using the pool, of course. We sat on our balcony watching the children making a lot of noise and having fun. But when we went back into the room and closed the sliding doors to the balcony we could not hear them. I mention this because someone called the hotel "noisy". I would also like to say that we heard absolutely no noise from the halls or neighboring rooms. And, believe me, if you were going to hear noise it would be with a hotel full of kids on Memorial Day weekend.
Someone called the pool "small". Well, I think it was about 40 feet long, which I would not call "small" for a hotel pool. The hot tub is in two levels, the upper one is smaller than the lower, and when the jets are turned on a very cool waterfall flows down into the lower one.
From the "pool building" we had a great view, through some trees, of the lake. I noticed, however, that there are many rooms without a view at all, and I think that it is because of the size of the complex and that it also serves as a business venue. There is a special building for meetings.
Someone called the decor "outdated". Well, my dear, so am I, and if I had been built when the hotel was you could call me outdated as well. The decor was classy, the art in the halls more than that, it was clean and well maintained and very comfortable with any amenity you could want.
As for the complaint about 'discrimination', at breakfast we had a group of Samoans, a mother and two children speaking Spanish, and another group speaking another variant of Spanish which we could not quite identify. Among this group there were two "Anglo" couples, including us.
I would definitely stay here again, but only in a lake view room, if I were on vacation.
Oh, I forgot. The Staff here is incredible. Somebody has trained them well.
