We checked in at 4:10 pm on a Friday and only had to wait a few minutes. Since we are owners we did not have to pay for parking. The self parking is across the street but I believe it is free. Only about a 3 minute walk. For non-owners valet parking is $10 a day. We found the valet guys to be very helpful. They unloaded our car and took everything up to our room. They advised us to call about 10 minutes prior to coming down for our car, which worked very well and we never had to wait. When we were checking out we called down for a bell hop and he was up within 15 minutes, loaded up all of our luggage and helped us put it in our car. Check out was very smooth. The on-site resturant was good for us grown ups and the kids liked it too. We all enjoyed the heated in-door/out-door pools and hot tubs. Both did tend to get quite crowded by 6:00 p.m. We had a two bedroom lock off which was great to have with two active boys. The kitchen has just about everything but in the non-renovated rooms counter space is non-existent, so food prep is tricky but doable. Apparently they are in the process of redoing all the units. We toured the new wing and were very impressed. The new kitchen layouts will have much more counter space and full size dish washers. The new units will also have flat screen tv's. Although we really liked our non renovated unit and found it to be very comfortable. Loved the gas fire place. Beds were comfortable. You do have to call down for fresh towels and to have trash emptied but we never had to wait more than 10 minutes. There are washing machines on every other floor and there is no charge to use the machines. You do need high efficiency detergent. We were surprised to find out there is no private beach access, bummer. Lots of places to eat within walking distance. Overall nice place to stay and we will stay here again.

“Timeshare Property....Beware Unless you are an Owner Here!”

Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort: A Sunterra Premier Resort

WARNING! If you are not an owner at the Tahoe Vacation Resort, DO NOT expect to receive a unit with any sort of view of the mountains or especially Lake Tahoe. The front desk staff are not at all helpful in trying to get you a unit with a view and just kept telling us to check back every day and we only were given a unit with a partial view after 3 nights of "checking back with the front desk" every day, losing our tempers and recruiting the help of the sales team to get us a better unit. Not Happy! We did not enjoy looking out at the ground floor parking lot everytime we opened the curtains with the constant moving of cars and parking attendants. It's really ashame that the front desk staff is not willing to be more helpful when a guest is unhappy. The rest of our experience at the resort was good.

I will tell you what the timeshare saleman, and front desk girls won't.
1. A studio equals a tiny hotel room with a queen size bed.
2. The is no room service.
3. There are people trying to re-sell these timeshares already.
4. The housekeeping schedule is 1 visit/ seven days. If you need clean towels more often- call the front desk and we then waited 2 hours for them.
5. Do not count on hot water for showers. It just doesn't work sometimes
6. Valet s (3) will watched us carry, unload and load our belongings, as well as watched my wife struggle to open the door to the resort, while wating for their tip.
7. Ambient tempurature was unpleasantly hot.
8. On welcome cards they "whited out" the change in ownership. Very tacky.
9. The resort needs to train the 19-25 year olds they hired concerning customer service.
10. We were charged 10$/day for them to park our car in an almost empty parking lot. (We were there during the off season)
It was an unfortunate experience for us. We still enjoyed the lake, but will not return here, nor recommend this resort to our friends.

“enjoyed our stay”

Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort: A Sunterra Premier Resort

We were very happy with our recent stay over spring break. Previous reviews had us worried about the staff and other issues. We did not find this to be a problem, check in was smooth, and we had a later check out. Our TV was broken, we called maintenance, they came within an hour and switched out the tv promptly. The valets were great, we called ahead and the car was always ready for us.

pros
the 2 rooms were large, 2 bathrooms, very clean.
restaurant and activities on site,
great location on the lake and on heavenly shuttle route,
great restaurants nearby,
2 minute easy drive to calif lodge

cons
no on site parking
maid service once a week
poor internet access, the wireless signal didn't reach our room, free internet in lodge was off and on

overall a great place to stay and I plan to stay there again

“Nice place to stay in South Tahoe”

Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort: A Sunterra Premier Resort

My husband and I stayed at this resort with my mom and her husband who are owners of the Diamond Resort timeshare system. They used their points to get us a two bedroom suite.

Driving to the hotel from Reno was simple. Highway 50 up to Lake Tahoe is four lanes and really quick. We drove past the big hotel/casinos at the NV/CA stateline and pulled into our place only about a mile past that. You could tell how close it is to the California Lodge at Heavenly Ski Resort just by looking at the view from the front entrance.

The first room (304) was nice, with views of the California side of Heavenly. I got the king bed while my mom took the room with two doubles. My assessment of this room is that the beds were uncomfortable enough to not get a full-night's sleep, the jet tub in the master bathroom was big enough for two and awesome after a day of skiing, my mom could hear pipes running in the walls at night, the kitchen was well-equipped, but not alot of counter space. The fridge did have an ice maker. I liked the decorations and ambiance in the room and the regular television sets were adequate, but limited channels. My husband ordered wireless internet service for around $7 a day and it worked in the room. The pans and dishwear were all clean and convenient for making breakfast.

Two days into the trip, my mom and her husband were (miraculously!) talked into "upgrading" their points when they went to the timeshare presentation. We were moved into an "upgraded" brand-new two-bedroom suite (134). The room's decorations, furniture, bathrooms, and dishwear were all in modern style and immaculate. It compared to the other room in the following ways: the beds had the same comfort level, there was a queen instead of two doubles in the second room, the jet tub and refridgerator were smaller and no ice maker (had to go to second floor for ice), flat screen tvs with satellite reception, but NO wireless service in the whole wing. My husband quickly got a refund for the paid internet service. This was inconvenient because he had to take his laptop to the loft above the lounge area to get online and the service was intermittent. They had to reset the modem up there a of couple times. The only real disappointment about the upgraded room was that the first floor did not afford any views except piled snow, and beyond that, the maintenance workers entrance and workshop. The distance of the room from the lobby / pool area was understandable because it is a big place.

Other comments on the hotel in general is that it has a great concierge service. They are always available to help and knowledgable of the local attractions. Discount tickets are also ready for purchase there. There is a free self-serve laundry room, which we used. The pool/spa area was surprisingly impressive. It looks small from pictures, but it's not really. There is an indoor section of pool that has a water channel through a plastic barrier (like the plastic that hangs in the butcher section of the grocery store) to the outdoor pool section. It was fun going back and forth into the cold winter air. There is also an indoor jacuzzi, which is very hot and an outdoor jacuzzi, which is cooled off a bit by the cold temperature and very comfortable. There's something about sitting in a warm jacuzzi with snow all around that is just so cool!

The valet service seems to be the most complained-about thing on previous reviews. I can understand that. There is simply not enough parking around the resort to accomodate all the guests, so you have two options: pay $10 a day plus tips for valet and have your car waiting at the front door for you, or pay $10 a day for self-parking and walk nearly three blocks in freezing cold weather to a garage to get your vehicle. We chose the valet service and made the pact that we would tip $2 every time they brought our car to us, but not when we dropped off. Besides, when we dropped the car off, we usually just got out and brought the keys to the valet window. They weren't opening our doors for us or anything. We did a lot of back and forth to the hotel and if we were going to be in the room for under an hour we asked them to leave the car close and we'd just get the keys from the window, which they did and we traded a buck for them.

There are shuttles to all the ski resorts at certain times of the morning. We liked Sierra better for it's beginner slopes as opposed to Heavenly for its convenience to the hotel. Getting to the casinos at Stateline was easy with plenty of parking at them.

In the end, my mom did cancel the upgrade to her points in the timeshare system. They still honored her upgraded stay in the second room and covered all the valet parking as promised. I love Lake Tahoe and would stay at this resort in the future if the price were right.
