“Warm welcome and charming stay for first visit to England”

The Wyastone Hotel

Apr 30, 2008

My husband has been on business trips to the Chetlenham area before and this time I was able to join him. It was my first trip to England and I am delighted that we took his co-worker's recommendation and stayed at the Wyastone. I was on my own during the day and without a car. Karen and Michael, the owners, were extremely helpful in assisting me to use the local buses for "day trips" and recommending places in town to visit.

The hotel itself was clean and the breakfast excellent. The Wyastone has the comfort and friendliness of a B & B but also the independence and privacy of a private inn. The room was very comfortable and the only problem (too soft bed) was immediately remedied. The bed was two twins joined to form a queen. There was no problem with the joining - the special mat used made it impossible to tell it was two beds. But when I commented that the bed was too soft for me, my husband was puzzled because he thought it was just fine -- but only his side was. We realized the problem and asked Karen if I could have a bedboard to firm up my part of the bed. When I returned that afternoon, they had changed the entire mattress to match my husband's (and still offered a board if I wanted it) and I was perfectly happy and comfortable. And do trust their restaurant recommendations -- excellent food and a reasonable price both times.
Thanks, Karen and Michael, for a lovely introduction to west England.

“A charming and friendly experience”

The Wyastone Hotel

Apr 21, 2008

We wanted a long weekend break, hoping to relax a little in the middle of a hectic Spring. The welcome we received from staff at the Wyastone, combined with Cheltenham's own laid-back elegance, did the trick within an hour or two.

Even before we had arrived they had been very kind in the way they managed to fit us in; as, typically, things had been left until the last minute. Our room was enormous and, as the hotel sits on the marvelously named Parabola road, all we could hear were the birds. Even so, the many boutiques, bars and restaurants of Montpellier and the Suffolks are near at hand. Informed and enthusiastic recommendations for eateries and other attractions were a boon as our stay was brief.

The breakfast was excellent and the bar, so often a sad and dusty little hotel facility, was well stocked and available on request. We had a wonderful time, and will certainly return when back in Cheltenham.

“1980's Nightmare”

The Wyastone Hotel

Apr 13, 2008

We stayed at the Wyastone based on the other reviews on Tripadvisor. I think we must have been unlucky....
The main focus of our disappointment was the room we were allocated on arrival. The hotel was full and we were duly shown to the attic - not a good sign! The room was reminiscient of the 1980's, with lots of cheap furniture and chintz decor. Not what we expected from the alleged "best hotel" in Cheltenham.

There was no mini bar and the bathroom suite was a lovely avacado colour with mold growing around the bath - nice.

On the upside, we only stayed one night and the breakfast was very good and the people friendly. Based on our experience, I wouldn't recommend it, or if you do decide to stay make sure you ask for a different room!

“Good hotel, good location and good breakfast”

We agree wholeheartedly with previous reviews. It is a good comfortable small hotel, with adequate off-street parking, in a quiet area but within walking distance of the town centre. In particular we enjoyed the breakfast - as well as the usual choices there was smoked salmon with scrambled egg, which was delicious.
