“Need sleep? Forget it!”

The Imperial Hotel

Unbelievably noisy at night. Even with the single-glazed sash windows tightly shut I could hear a loud transformer buzzing like an angry mosquito, air-conditioning units blowing and local drunks shouting to each other every night.

Ill-fitting blinds meant the interior of my room was clearly visible from surrounding accommodation in the evenings.

One memorable morning no staff turned up to prepare breakfast until 20 minutes after it was supposed to be ready. The place was deserted apart from bemused guests wondering what was going on. No explanation was forthcoming.

Towels and bedding were merely folded/turned to give the impression they were clean. Room service also left a window unlocked twice - despite the flat roof directly outside my first-floor room!

My radiator was on full for the entire stay, even though the regulator read '0', making the room suffocatingly hot at night.

Despite a complaint to the manager, there was no offer of compensation.

“Don't even think about it”

Friends and family stayed in this hotel recently as I had arranged my parents' suprise Ruby Wedding Anniversary 5 mins walk away and recommended this site to them. It was shambolic from start to finish. The bookings were wrong, one room was the size of a toilet and the other had water dripping down the walls over the electric socket. One group of friends were relocated 20 mins drive away - negating the point of having a hotel within walking distance - and the others given a room the size of a large toilet, rather than a small one.
To top it all, I was charged twice for the one room I paid for and when I complained, told I was lucky 'I hadn't been charged for all 4 rooms'. The manager refused to come to the phone because she was 'stressed' and I only managed to talk to her after 8 days of ringing every day to get the erononeous charge refunded. I felt I was going mad. When I spoke to her she was rude, unhelpful and hung up on me. I have never, ever experienced a time like it. Please don't go - it ruined our family do.

“Noisey Fighting outside after nightclubs empty out”

Very disappointed ,wallpaper coming off.cracks in bedroom wall,
unsafe electrics.Staircase carpet threadbear and dangerous.
Some staff unable to understand english which made things worse.Fire escape blocked by armchair.
We were unable to sleep on Saturday night due to noise from locals waiting for taxis and fighting .Police where outside several times during the night trying to control the fighting.
What should have been a quiet weekend in the cotswolds turned out to be a nightmare.
Would not recommend staying here.

“More pub than hotel but still good value”

The Imperial Hotel

Stayed here on business. THe hotel is being refurbished and would recommend asking for a room that has been done. The room was large and comfortable, bathroom was very clinical but functional. The windows all have wooden blinds to cover them which means the room is never dark with light straeming in from outside. The food was very good value with a surprising menu mainly consisting of Thai food, although they also do British as well. The service was friendly and efficient.
My one complaint was the noise. I stayed midweek so no night club but there is a taxi firm next door and the railway station car park near. There was constant door slamming until after midnight and as the room doesn't have air conditioning you need the windows open when it is warm. To make matters worse at 6 am the dustbins are emptied, including the empties from the bar. Did spoil a reasonably good nights sleep. This is more a pub/restaurant which has bedrooms than a hotel, the facilities are basic, the room has small TV and tea/coffee but not much else Still at £69 per night B&B what more could you expect.

Worth a visit for a night or two but not much more. I am sure there are better quality hotels in the area but this is good value.

“clean and friendly - shame about the noise”

Room and bathroom spacious, new and spotlessly clean. Staff welcoming. I was a little surprised to pay on arrival as this is not the norm in most hotels that I stay at - perhaps they have had problems. Full English breakfast very good.

There was one major disappointment - noise from the surrounding night clubs as clients sought taxis from the nearby taxi ranks, and what sounded like a chainsaw running from midnight til about 3 in the morning. I came home to sleep! Probably a little better during the week - but I would not visit again at a weekend for this reason only.
