I've stayed here several times over the last 9 months, 2 or 3 (weekday) nights at a time. Yes, it is in the red light district, and consequently un-accompanied females may feel uncomfortable in the environs of the hotel, however for me (a male business traveller) its location close to the station and the town centre together with a reasonable price makes it a no-brainer choice.
Some of the rooms are now starting to show signs of wear, but I’ve always found them clean and well presented. The decent sized desk with a bright light above makes it a good hotel to work in of an evening. The powerful showers are a real bonus. The continental breakfast is reasonable value for money with a decent choice. My experiences in the restaurant of an evening are rather less positive with poor service, poor value for money, and until the recently introduced new menu, poor choice. In any case there are a number of places to eat close by, with a J.D. Wetherspoon just a block away.
The 23p a minute charge for 0845 telephone numbers, makes using the internet in the hotel a bit pricey. The rooms have a combined air conditioning / heating unit but the summer / winter mode appears to be set remotely, and consequently in Hull’s changeable weather occasionally you want heat when the unit is set to deliver cooling. The major drawback to the hotel, is however, the lack of on site parking provision for customers.
