Had a one night stay at Balcony House on Saturday 25th March, and it was fantastic. We searched the internet for a while looking at various hotels and locations, mainly looking for the cheapest and although Balcony House is a lot cheaper than some of the other guest houses in the area it is exceptional. As we were travelling up from Milton Keynes on Saturday, we had no idea what time we would be arriving to check in, Brian was brilliant and gave us his mobile number so we could call when we were nearly there and he would make sure he was in to meet us. On our arrival in Kendal we were shocked at the town, we expected a sleep little Lake District Village but in fact it was a lot bigger than we thought. Balcony House is on the outer side from the center of the town, about a 10 min walk. The accomidation is absolutly beautiful, the kind of house that you would want to live in. We stayed in the four poster room, the bed was like sleeping on a cloud and we had our own private bathroom across the landing with shower. Although it wasnt ensuite there are only 2 other bedrooms apart from the four poster room and so walking across the landing wasnt a issue, Mandy kindly supplies dressing gowns though for the shy amoung us! Mandy supplied a broceure of the local trips and museuems in the area, but as we were there for a completly chilled out weekend, we just walked into town and spent the afternoon in various pubs. Mandy isnt the exception in kendal though, everyone we spoke to were friendly and full of hints and suggestions as to where to eat and what to do that evening. We called a taxi to takle us out and Mandy returned and dropped us off, not even my mum does that for me anymore. After we had returned from a night out in Kendal (the Sphere Bar-very good value and packed, and the Italian Restaurant next door-brilliant although make sure you book first)we returtned to Balcony House and watched a film on the flat screen TV in the room(accompined by a DVD player)then fell asleep on the beautiful bed. Next morning we went down for our full english perfectly cooked breakfast and both Brian and Mandy were on hand to top up orange juice, tea coffee and cook the breakfast just the way you like. As Mandy has a corperate membership at the gym down the road, the guests are alloweded to use it at no extra charge, so we went for a swim, and a sauna in the morning, The perfect end to the perfect weekend. All in all you get the benefits of a hotel with the personal touch of a B+B at Balcony House, we will definatly be recommending it and planning our next trip back.
