We stayed in March.
As it was a special birthday, we paid for a room with a balcony and it was fabulous to sit out and look at Ullswater.
The rest of the hotel was great too: pretty, comfortable lounges; a nice bar and the best food I've had in a long time. Although it was the same menu on both nights, there was plenty of choice, including fabulous home made ice-creams.
Breakfast was of the same quality as dinner and cooked to order, thank god, and not the second- rate cold/dried up buffet.
The staff was wonderful too, especially the owners, who seem to work 24/7!
In all, Rampsbeck was the perfect country house hotel and we had a great time. We needed a relaxing break, in comfortable, beautiful surroundings with good food and that's exactly what we got.

An absoloutley brillant few days at what i can say was the nicest hotel we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. The location is superb, close to penrtih and keswick, the staff were so friendly and the food was superb. As a family we thought the desserts were the best part of the meal, as there was prehaps a little to much oil on some of the the other courses. Finally the whole design of the hotel is so equisite but yet remains comfortable and inviting, it truly was a wonderful place to stay.

“Perfect weekend”

Just returned from our second visit to Rampsbeck, and found it as lovely as we had remembered. We had booked a superior room with side lake view but on arrival we were upgraded to a small suite. As a previous reviewer has mentioned, a hospitality tray is not routinely provided, but we found it to be readily available on request, complete with fresh milk ! The spacious bathroom looked newly refurbished, and was luxuriously appointed.
The hotel has 3 AA rosettes for the quality of its food, and this is undoubtedly deserved. We have never had better food anywhere in Britain. Unusual ingredients (eg pig's cheek starter) and imaginative presentation made each meal a delight, and the service was impeccable. Furthermore the entire hotel is thankfully unspoilt by piped music, and is also non-smoking. The public rooms with their open fires, are charming, comfortable, and inviting.
With its lakeside position and lack of road noise, Rampsbeck offers a very relaxing retreat.

Chose the hotel for a special weekend break, everything about the hotel from the staff, location, service and most of all the food was excellent.
Rooms are very clean and comfortable, fruit, tea and coffee, bottled water all in the room and replenished regularly. Luxurious fluffy white towels in the bathroom. A very enjoyable weekend.

“Not the usual pretentious Lake District Hotel”

Had a very relaxing one night stay at this hotel on our way back from the highlands and Islands of Scotland. It is beautifully situated on the banks of Ullswater but has very easy access just minutes from the M6
The room was traditionally styled as you would expect in a country house hotel but bright and airy with views of the garden and partial views of the lake. Bathroom was dated but spotlessly clean. Unfortunately the bed was a bit past its sell by date and could do with replacing. Also had blankets not duvet but this isnt uncommon in this sort of hotel and wasnt a problem.
Dinner was fantastic - this is a chef at the peak of his profession and we couldnt fault a thing. Both food and service are outstanding. The wine list is good and not excessively expensive. The public rooms are pleasant and there is a small bar.
At first we were disappointed there was no kettle in the room but the early morning tea/coffee booked the night before and delivered to your room was wonderful. To get fresh coffee/tea instead of instant and longlife milk was a great start to the day
I dont think the same chef was on duty at breakfast - which was acceptable but not up to the standard of the rest of the food.
The service overall however was attentive and friendly and could not be faulted.
Would stay at this hotel again if in the area.
