“The Bronx indeed!”

Travelodge Reading Oxford Road

1 of 5 stars
Worcester, Worcestershire
Nov 27, 2007

Yes, it was like staying in the centre of the Bronx.

I hated it here.

I stayed for work reasons and didn't think that the location was particularly well suited to a Travelodge - to say the least!

The hotel was dark and dingy. I travel regularly for work but here I felt vulnerable. I visited the shop opposite and even that was scary.

I had trouble parking in the car park on one of my 3 nights there and drove under the hotel to the underground car park - but drove straight back out again! Nobody else had used it either which says something. The area is so intimidating. If I hadn't managed to park eventually into somewhere someone had just moved from on the 'upper deck', I think I'd have driven home!!!

If you feel vulnerable, if you haven't got your meal in your suitcase, if you don't have a padlock for your room - sleep in the car!!!

“Nice hotel”

Travelodge Reading Oxford Road

4 of 5 stars
yorkshire
Sep 30, 2007

The Quality Hotel Reading is now owned and operated by Travelodge (Reading Oxford Road).

The hotel itself is nice, it has a pleasent bar/dining area serving a limited but sufficient menu. Food was fine. Small bar but again all you could need. I didn't eat breakfest but they do a buffet style breakfast which looked good.

The room I had was good - well presented, clean and tidy. Bathroom was clean.

The only downside is the area - it's not great but it isn't THAT bad - I think some of the other peoples comments are a bit over the top.

Car parking is limited - the underground car park is a bit of a squeeze but probably safer. If you arrive late you may find problems finding a space.

Staff were all very frienly and helpful - in general I was pleased with my stay - especially as I managed to get a saver rate which made it very good value for money.

“Hotel now changed to a Travelodge - area not changed at all”

Travelodge Reading Oxford Road

3 of 5 stars
Yorkshire, England
Sep 12, 2007

This hotel is now a Travelodge and signs ask that "You bear with us whilst we convert to a Travelodge".

The hotel itself is ok. Our room was warm, a reasonable size (for a Travelodge) but clearly very dated. In the bathroom the toilet required a great deal of effort to flush; the plug in the sink would not work properly; and the shower had definitely seen better days. However, as we had managed to book at a bargain rate the overall value for money was good.

Not certain if the presence of a police car in the car-park was meant to reassure or alarm but this hotel is located in a somewhat down-at-heel part of Reading. As well as the open air 'surface' parking there is also an underground car-park.

As we had gone out during the evening there were no spaces left in the open air car park so we risked the underground. Despite the comfort of the bed I did not have the best night's sleep worrying about the car. Some more visible security would offer great reassurance.

On the plus side the staff were very pleasant and because we had booked and paid on-line we were able to check in and out without any fuss.

“The Bronx - Reading Style”

Travelodge Reading Oxford Road

Aug 8, 2007

I had to laugh at some of the other comments. The hotel is okay, I had a really nice room and I thought breakfast was good. But the area - oh dear. I would avoid the pub next door, it was a hot day and the pub was busy, I seemed to be one of the few men wearing clothes on my upper body, beer bellies hanging out everywhere, quite rough. The entire road (Oxford Rd) is run down. My advice, firstly give Reading a miss, if you do end up here get a taxi in to the town centre or don't leave the hotel!

“Intresting area, but for the wrong reasons!”

Travelodge Reading Oxford Road

Jul 14, 2007

Stayed here with work and to be honest I would not stay here again if I had a choice. The bar was nice the food was ok. The room was dark, the bathroom very dated, the bed sheets were clean but the same
could not be said for the duvet covers, these were stained. The area is special with an adult video shop only minutes walk away with a selection of interesting a normally unseen individuals standing outside.
