Just arrived back from bath, the hotel looked fine for the price on the website, checked into our room great view but on further inspection I don't think the room had seen a hoover or the bathroom any bleach for at least a month, but being the placid person I am I said nothing. The breakfast is rubbish the happy shopper yoqurts are off the butter smells rancid. What makes the food more attractive is the chap in the reception carrying around a tub of rat poisioning. I so wished I had read some of the other reviews on the page before my travels. If anyone dare stays at this hotel please check your bill as yes I was over charged for a breakage which was out of my control and due to wear and tear. I am now considering contacting the local authority to undertake a health inspection at this hotel.

I decided to spend less than 100pounds and be within a mile of bath city centre. The location is very nice- on the hill with some views over the city. However the place itself is definitelly not for younger couples who dont particularily enjoy traditional old english style. The smell, the interior and everything inside (decorations such as plates above the door) automatically make you feel a lot older than you really are.

There is absolutely nothing bad to say about the service though.Staff were friendly and manager himself would approach the guests during breakfast to see how are they doing and acknowledge their needs.

Cleanliness could have been better, especially the smell of oldness and somelitter visible in the corners or under tv table.

We would have definitelly enjoyed it more if the weather was better. The pool and jacuuzi in the garden looked tempting. Also the restaurant set in conservatory (the view) was ok.

Therefore reommend for older travellers only.
Advice for the owner:Give it a little refurbisment inside (the colour of the walls, bathrooms etc and you'll get much better reviews.

Met up with a couple here for a weekend,,,
one night only and enough.
Room was okay , luckily had a power shower which ment hot water,,
however snails on curtain,
Dont order food from place as you will be eating portions off a starter plate and it gets no bigger,,, expensive for size.
Put views across to manager who didnt seem interested at all in
correcting his situation what you see is what you get.

will not be returning ,

could be a really nice place if they bothered.

“Worst "Hotel" Ever!!!!”

Wentworth House

May 28, 2008

Where do we begin!?!?!?
We originally booked a long weekend for 3 of us only to be emailed 3 days before saying we had been double-booked. We were offered a room with two beds and a stretcher. We asked if this room would be discounted and we were told that we would still be charged at a full triple room rate. So we re-scheduled our trip for a few weekends later thinking nothing of it.
On the hotel's website it states that it is a 15 min "stroll" from the city centre. This couldn't be further from the truth. It is a 30 minute hike up a steep hill, which took even longer with luggage!!!
Once we finally arrived, we were shown the breakfast room. We asked if breakfast was included in our stay and we were told that yes, it most definitely was included.
Upon inspection of the room, we found the bathroom smelt distinctly of vomit and the carpet (yes, carpet in the bathroom) was very damp. The room was extremely small for a triple, and the tv was tiny with extremely poor reception. The bedside lamps were all broken and had blown lightbulbs.
Breakfast was barely acceptable, as the cooked breakfast was luke warm, the scrambled eggs were hardly cooked at all, and the toasters took 15 mins to even warm the bread up!
Upon leaving the hotel we went to pay and were told that we were to pay for breakfast. We argued this point, saying that we were told breakfast was included. The manager then told us that we were wrong and breakfast is never included in the stay. Even though my partner did not eat breakfast one morning, we were still made to pay for her sitting down in the room. We were made to pay an extra £48!!!

All in all, our stay in Bath was marred by this atrocious accommodation. I recommend not staying here at all. If it is the only place left available, then do not eat breakfast in the hotel, treat yourself to some McDonalds, as it will be cheaper and better tasting.

“Not quite as bad as the reviews say, but pretty bad!”

Wentworth House

May 28, 2008

I booked this hotel as a Birthday surpise for my Boyfriend for 2 nights, the second night another couple were joining us as another surpise for him, I recommended them this hotel as we had booked it - big mistake!

After booking this, I read the reviews on booking.com, which were ok, but then turned to Trip Advisor and to my horror, I began to panic at the reviews, I ended up telling him about the trip through fear of it being that bad!

To be honest, the place is not as bad as the reviews say, but it is by no means great or even ok! I had paid £200 for the 2 nights, if I had paid £100 (£50 per night) I would have said fair play, not bad for a 2star B & B, you pay for what you get. But it was no way a £200 stay! My boyfriend burnt his back a few times on the VERY hot exposed pipes in the EXTREMELY small shower (they were not boxed in or a sign to say hot) when we told the owner, he said he had never heard of this in 35 years - bear in mind he has only owned the place for 3 years!
Breakfast was cold and tiny - not quite a fry up!

Rooms very pokey, my friends had not paid for the upgraded 4 poster and got a larger room - no consistency yet again!

Ordered some food before we all went out and it was very expensive and small (served on a side plate, but classed as dinner!)

Rooms were not made next day, had to ask for clean towels at Breakfast, but the owner did not understand what I was saying - luckily the breakfast lady did!

Owner seemed to have an answer for everything. Its a shame, as it would be a great hotel, in a great city if run by conciencious people and delivered what a £200 stay should. If you have booked it already, the place seemed fairly clean, so don't worry and do what we did and enjoy the great city of Bath.
