My husband and I stayed here for a short break in Bath. The hotel is perfectly adequate, although as other reviewers have noted, it seems a bit overpriced considering that you can get similar facilities and service at Travelodge and other chains of that type.
The main benefits are free parking (not to be sniffed at in Bath) and the short walk into the centre of town. Having said that, you walk along the towpath, or through the railway station carpark. Both are fine during the day, but I wouldn't be happy going either way at night if I were by myself.
The hotel itself is bland in that chain hotel way, which isn't in itself a bad thing. The room was clean and had a kingsize bed, though the bathroom was a bit dated. Also, the Menzies Waterside is not the best hotel for light sleepers: our room faced onto a busy road, and the maid service seemed to like to play loud music when they started work at 9am. Neither was a problem for us, but beware if you like a lie in. The room was warm, but we went in October so this didn't trouble us too much.
We only used the brasserie for breakfast, which was fine. We made the mistake of popping into the bar for a nightcap one evening, it was completely souless, and had absolutely awful muzak playing in the background (a sin also committed at breakfast). Why do they think anybody wants to listen to that? We drank up very quickly.
Finally, do not be hoodwinked by the 4 stars. I think this is from the AA rating system, which is different from the tourist board standard. This is clearly a 2 star hotel, and the hotel and hotel booking websites should be clearer about this.
