“Scottish Hospitality at the Hazelbank”

Hazelbank Hotel

5 of 5 stars
St Andrew's Scotland
May 21, 2008

We have had a most enjoyable stay at Hazelbank, within 200 yards of the first tee at the Old Course at St Andrew's. The people are really fabulous and very accommodating. Rooms are pleasant and comfortable. Scottish breakfast is superb. And to top it all off, it is the only place we have found in St Andrews and in our two weeks in Scotland with complementary computer and high speed internet for residents! We recommend this small hotel highly.

“Wonderful”

Wonderful Hotel with amazing views. Staff warm, friendly and nothing was too much for them to do. Your comfort is their priority.

Hotel is very clean and our room although it didn't have the bay windows was spacious and very comfortable. They made sure there was always tea and coffee supplies in your room. The en suite bathroom was very clean and nicely fitted out. The breakfast room was so lovely. It was a pleasure to stay there and i hope we can go back sometime.

“You can't beat the staff!”

The Hazelbank has a quaint Breakfast room with views of the "Old Course". Michael was extreamly friendly. I understand all the hotels in the area use conservation friendly bulbs, but I found the lighting not to be a problem. Great location!

Room 3 worked for us and it was quite large. A nice view and the service was excellent. Good people and a perfect location. It was a positvie experience for us and we enjoyed our stay.

“Regretted the Booking”

Hazelbank Hotel

Oct 3, 2007
2/3 found this review helpful

After reading the wonderful reviews, my husband and I (very keen golfers on our fourth trip to Scotland) settled for The Hazelbank, room 7, for 3 nights. As soon as we saw the room, we realized we had made a mistake. The room is not large by any means, it looks tired, the bathroom is very small, the lighting very poor. In other words, the room was not a place we wanted to be, which was a shame as the best thing about it was the view!

Michael and the staff were very kind, the breakfast very good and the hotel clean. Still, I would not recommend it because we found it to be bad value. We should have either upgraded to the more fancy Golf Hotel (next door at an additional 60 GBP) or downgraded to a nearby B&B (with a similar room and no view with a savings of 60 GBP). Unfortunately, once you book, you are locked in.

Please note that the hotel has no common area. There is a computer room which is very small and also very poorly lit. People go there for their internet needs (one at the time and it is free), but the computer is old and so its configurations. The library is a better bet (modern and free).

Just as a curiosity: every other hotel we stayed during our trip was immensely better and cheaper: Carnoustie Golf Hotel, Marine Golf Hotel in North Berwick and a B&B in Gullane.
