We just stayed there recently for two nights. We stayed in one of the suites in the old part of the house which seemed very impressive. We arrived late at night, so when we opened the curtains in the morning we got a lovely surprise as our rooms looked onto beautiful gardens with many many different coloured rhodedendrum trees - really beautiful. There are only 5 suites in the old house and ours was very spacious and quiet to say the least. If you are reserving a suite .. there is a bit of a walk up the old winding staircase of the house to the suites. The staff helped bring our stuff up, so it wasn't a problem really. I didn't realise that the suites were furnished in "the old style" in keeping with the old style of the house (I was thinking they'd be a larger version of the photos shown on the website). I was a bit surprised at some of the furniture in the living room - e.g. two antique dining room chairs, but the upholstery on the seating part was ripped from left to right on both of them. I'd never sit on them! Some of the occasional tables reminded me of furniture you might find in your granny's house 50 years ago. The coffee table was very modern though. The writing desk in the bedroom had a lot of white ring marks on it which are easily removed with a product found in most hardware shops. The bed was OK, even though it was a Zip and Link (two singles) - bed linen was perfect.
We were attending a family function and had to dress up for it, and there was one thing I really would have liked ... a full length mirror! I definitely liked other touches in the suite, such as the complimentary bottles of wine (small ones), water, the mini bottles of Baileys, good selection of toilettries. There were robes, slippers, an ironing board, trouser press, safe etc.. There was also a turn-down service which was very nice and appreciated. The bath in the bathroom looks like it could do with a good scrub between the tiles - you know how the grouting can get .. bleach works every time though. It also took me ages to figure out that you have to turn the dial on the shower three times in order to get it to the hottest postion, so I had a warm shower the first day, and a better one the next day. We had other family members staying at the hotel too, and they had mixed feelings about their stay. We didn't use the spa or pool, but we had a look - looked very nice.
Would I go back ? I probably would. The gardens are beautiful, peaceful, and on a sunny day .. just lovely to sit there reading the paper and enjoying a very nice cappucino. The staff were friendly, and efficient.
